Police: KC man called police after shooting victim in the head

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man faces charges in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in south Kansas City last week.

Marcus M. Williams, 26, faces 2nd Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to an apartment in south Kansas City on July 15 on a reported shooting. The defendant opened the door of the apartment and police observed the victim lying on her back with blood coming from her head. When detectives interviewed the defendant, he said he and the victim were arguing and wrestling over a gun. He said that during the altercation, the victim fell to the ground and that his finger must have been on the trigger at some point as they were fighting. He said she never touched the firearm during the struggle. The gun went off and struck the victim in the head. He said he contacted the police after realizing what happened. 

The defendant is in custody on a $200,000/10% bond.
