Sheriff IDs Kan. woman who died after SUV crash with combine

BARTON COUNTY—One person died from injuries in an accident just before 11a.m. Saturday in Barton County. 

 A 2016 case IH combine without a header, operated by Charles Haas, 53, Larned, was westbound on SW 30th Road, approaching the intersection at SW 60 Avenue about four miles southwest of Great Bend, near Dundee, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir.

A northbound Ford Escape driven by Ronald Heine, 75, Great Bend failed to stop at the stop sign, proceeded into the intersection and struck the front of the combine.

The SUV continued northbound rolling one time and came to rest on its wheels. Heine, as well as his passenger identified as Wanda Heine, 71, sustained serious injuries in the collision. Both were transported to the hospital in Great Bend, according to Bellendir.

Wanda Heine later died to her injuries at the hospital. Haas was not injured in the collision. The sheriff reported no additional details.
