MSHP Promotes Capt. Steven V. Wilhoit to Major

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced that Captain Steven V. Wilhoit will be promoted to the rank of Major, effective January 1, 2026.

In his new role, Wilhoit will serve as the commander of the Executive Services Bureau. A native of Shelbina, Missouri, Wilhoit joined the Patrol in 1996 and has spent nearly three decades rising through the ranks, serving in various leadership capacities across Troop B, Troop A, and the Division of Drug and Crime Control.

Major Wilhoit’s career is marked by extensive field and investigative experience. After graduating from the 72nd Recruit Class, he initially served in Linn and Chariton counties before transferring to the Division of Drug and Crime Control in 2005. He moved into administrative leadership at General Headquarters as a lieutenant in 2014 and most recently served as the commanding officer of Troop A in Lee’s Summit.

An alumnus of Central Missouri State University with a degree in criminal justice, Wilhoit resides with his wife, Shayla, and their five children.
