SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating the fatal shooting of a 2-month-old in Topeka reported the suspect is in custody.
Just before 7:30p.m. Thursday, 29-year-old Alfred A. Smith was booked into the Greene County Missouri jail on unrelated charges, according to online booking records.
Just before 5:30p.m. July 14, police were dispatched to a Topeka hospital after a victim identified as 2-month-old Alonzoe K. Smith arrived with an apparent gunshot wound, according to Lt. Ronnie Connell.
The infant had arrived and was being treated for a life threatening injury. and later died. The shooting occurred in the 1000 Block of SW Mulvane Street.
Police released no additional details on when Smith could return to Kansas to face charges for the death of the child.
