As the World Cup gets underway in Kansas City, the excitement comes a warning about scams.
Missouri’s Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau are both urging people to be careful. Khesha Duncan with the Better Business Bureau explains what to watch for.
“Sports memorabilia and also ticket scams are two to be very wary of or what looks like a too good to be true ad that pops up on a social media platform that you use a lot or even in your e-mail or via text," Duncan says.
Duncan also says fake parking tickets are part of the many scams.
“Making sure you don't quickly pay something without making sure that it's legitimate. I would encourage people also to go directly to the FIFA, F-I-F-A.com website," Duncan explains.
Duncan says if someone is selling extra tickets to make sure to look at the tickets carefully.
“They're all excited. They see somebody with two or three tickets or however many they need. Looks like a perfect situation," Duncan says. "You know, you park company, that's a short transaction, and then you look down and realize you just purchased tickets to an event that was a year ago or two years ago or not even in the same state.”
Attorney General Catherine Hanaway encourages anyone who believes they may have been targeted by a scam to file a complaint online HERE
