NEWTON COUNTY —One person died and four others were injured in an accident just before 3a.m. Thursday in Newton County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2012 Chevy Cruze driven by Trenton R. Wilson, 21, Granby, was northbound on Wallaby Road three miles west of Pierce City.
The driver lost control of the car as it traveled over railroad tracks. The car traveled off the right side of the road, down an embankment, struck the ground and rolled.
Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the county coroner's office. Newton County ambulance transported a 12-year-old Pierce City girl; a 17-year-old Monett boy; 18-year-old Breyton Hendricks of Purdy and 19-year-old McKenzie L. Cooley of Pierce City to Mercy Joplin. All five were not wearing seat belts, according to the MSHP.
