Trooper hospitalized after struck by vehicle during traffic stop

KANSAS CITY —A Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper was injured Wednesday in during a traffic stop in Clay County.

Just after midnight, a trooper was on a traffic stop in the inside left shoulder of northbound Interstate 35, north of Missouri 210, in north Kansas City, according to a media release from the Patrol.

The trooper had just placed the driver of a traffic stop under arrest of suspect driving whild intoxicated and was standing on the passenger side of the patrol car when a passing motorist struck the trooper and the patrol car.

EMS transported the trooper to an area hospital in serious condition. The driver who struck the trooper was transported for treatment of minor injuries. The arrested suspect was not injured. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Major Crash Investigation Unit is in charge of the crash investigation.  The Patrol released no additional information early Wednesday.
