Kansas woman dies days after critically injured in house fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY—A woman injured in a house fire last week has died of her injuries.
Just after 8a.m. May 22, crew responded to a house fire at 5431 SW 17th Street in Topeka, according to a media release from  Topeka Fire Department.

 Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from the front of the home. Firefighters initiated an offensive fire attack and quickly extinguished the  fire, containing it to the living room, which was determined to be where the fire started.

During a primary search of the residence, crews located one unconscious victim. She was treated on scene and transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. A secondary search confirmed the residence was all clear.

On Tuesday, official reported the woman died of her injuries.

A Topeka Fire Department Investigation Unit responded to determine the origin and cause of  the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and electrical in nature.  The home did have working smoke detectors.  The name of the victim has not been released.
