MIAMI COUNTY—Law enforcement investigating the death of a juvenile in rural Miami County have identified the victim as a 15-year-old from Olathe, according to the Miami County Sheriff's office.
Just before 3p.m. Wednesday, the Miami County Sheriff's office received a 911 call requesting an ambulance for a death, according to a media release.
The caller indicated a juvenile had been injured inside a residence. First responders discovered the juvenile deceased inside the home. EMS transported a second juvenile, a 16-year-old Spring Hill boy, to the local hospital as a precautionary measure.
As the investigation unfolded, the death was deemed suspicious prompting the involvement of additional recourses. The sheriff's office reviewed the scene and a search warrant was executed at the home. The Johnson County Sheriff's office crime scene unit also assisted.
During the investigation, the 16-year-old at the hospital was taken into custody and later transported to the juvenile detention facility. Both juveniles were students in the Spring Hill USD 230 and are not related.
Authorities have not released details on the cause of death.
