Strong thunderstorms moved across the region Thursday morning, dropping heavy rainfall and bringing gusty winds to the area, but there’s a better chance for severe weather Thursday evening.
Much of northeast Kansas, southeast Nebraska and northwest Missouri are under an enhanced risk for severe weather for Thursday, says National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Temeyer from the Pleasant Hill office.
"Later on today, we're looking at redeveloping storms," he said. "Probably in the late afternoon and early evening hours, and some of those may have a pretty good punch to them."
Large hail, damaging straight line winds, heavy rain and isolated tornadoes are all possible tonight Thursday night.
The threat for severe weather will continue into Friday, as there's a slight risk for severe weather across much of the region that day as well.
"And then on Saturday as well, we have a marginal risk out for the much of the area," said Temeyer. "For a few stronger storms potentially reaching severe limits."
Temeyer said portions of the region could see as much as 2-4 inches of rain by Saturday. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all of northwest Missouri and portions of eastern Kansas through Friday morning.
