Kan. woman accused in 19-year-old's fentanyl overdose death

GEARY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a drug overdose death and have made an arrest.

On August 22, police responded to a call of an unresponsive subject in the 1500 Block of Patriot Drive in Junction City, according to a media release.

First responders discovered Caytlin P. Hinkle, 19, of Junction City unresponsive. EMS attempted to resuscitate her but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following an autopsy, it was determined that Hinkle’s cause of death was “Acute Fentanyl Intoxication.”

Following a 5-month investigation, on Thursday afternoon, detectives within the Junction City Police Department’s Drug Task Force arrested Alyzah Benitez, 22, of Junction City, in connection with Hinkle's death

 Benitez is being held on requested charges of Distribution of a controlled substance causing great bodily harm or death. Ms. Benitez was transported to the Geary County Detention Facility where she is being held with no bond pending a first appearance in Geary County District Court.
