Update: Mo. Woman dies In crash; driver who fled sought

ROGERSVILLE, Mo. (AP) — A 21-year-old woman is dead after a crash in southwestern Missouri, and authorities are searching for another driver who fled after allegedly causing the accident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said 21-year-old Mercedes Luna died in the accident that happened around 8 a.m. Friday on Missouri 125 near Rogersville. Luna was a student-teacher at Logan-Rogersville High School.

The patrol said the driver of a gray SUV tried to pass a FedEx truck in a no-passing zone near the peak of a hill. Luna, coming the other way, swerved to avoid the SUV and struck the FedEx truck.

The SUV did not stop and authorities are searching for the driver.

The Fed-Ex driver was not hurt.

GREENE COUNTY —A Missouri woman died in an accident just before 8a.m. Friday in Greene County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2003 Honda Civic driven by Mercedes R. Luna, 21, Strafford, was southbound on MO 125 in Rogersville.

The driver attempted to avoid an oncoming vehicle. The Honda traveled into the ditch, back onto the road and slid sideways. A northbound 2021 Ford F350 driven by Randi N. Mabe, 25, Norwood, struck the Honda broadside.

Luna was pronounced dead at Cox South Hospital. Mabe had minor injuries but was not transported.  Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the MSHP.
