SHAWNEE COUNTY —One person was injured in a fire at a home in Topeka.
Just after 3 a.m. Sunday, crews responded to a house fire at 900 SW 31st Terrace in Topeka, according to Battalion Chief Chris Stanley. Upon arrival, crews reported smoke coming from the back side of the single-story home. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack, extinguishing the fire and containing it to the area in started.
A search of the residence confirmed it was clear, as the homeowner had escaped prior to the arrival of fire crews. American Medical Response transported the homeowner to a local hospital for treatment non life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home did have working smoke detectors.
