JOHNSON COUNTY —Two people were injured in a fire early Friday in Johnson County.

Just after 5a.m., crews from Overland Park and Lenexa responded to a fire at a home near 95th and Knox, according to a media release. First responders found smoke showing from the two-story, single family home with one resident attempting to get out of the home.

Firefighters helped the man outside and were told of a second man inside.  Firefighters located the second victim and a dog and helped both outside safely.

Firefighters then went to work attacking a fire in a bedroom on the second floor. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Fire was contained to the room of origin and a hallway. The entire upstairs sustained moderate smoke damage. EMS transported both men to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The dog was not injured. The home did have working smoke alarms.
