Sheriff: Kansas mother jailed after driving with kids in stolen van

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman on multiple charges after a traffic stop.

Just before 10 p.m. Monday, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan at SW 10th Street and SW Wanamaker Road, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

The minivan was reported stolen through the Topeka Police Department. There were two adult woman, an 8-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl inside the vehicle during this incident.

Throughout the investigation, deputies found illegal narcotics, according to Christian. They arrested the driver, Shalena N. Broadway, 29, of Topeka, on a warrant out of Jackson County and requested charged with possession of methamphetamine, aggravated endangering a child, felony theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, driving while license suspended, identity theft, forgery and burglary to vehicle.

The passenger, Jessica D. Riley-Perkins, 27, of Topeka, was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, identity theft, forgery and burglary to vehicle.
