SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident have identified the woman who died as Sarah J. Hurt, 42, of Topeka, according to Police Lt. John Trimble.
The hit-and-run accident occurred just after 10p.m. Sunday near the intersection of SE 6th Avenue and Branner Street, according Lt. Trimble.
When officers arrived, they found Hurt deceased. It was reported she was struck by a black passenger car that then fled the area. The Topeka Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation.
Just after 4a.m. Monday, SE 6th Avenue and streets directly East of Branner Street for several blocks were reopened to the public. Police released no additional details as the search for the suspect continues.
