Sheriff: Kansas man jailed after crash in stolen car

 JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a suspect in connection with a vehicle theft in rural Jackson County, Kansas.

Just before 5p.m. Thursday a, Sheriff’s Deputies apprehended a suspect involved in an early morning car theft in Jackson County, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.  The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Chevy Impala that had been stolen from a residence in the 25000 Block of T. Road, north of Holton.

The vehicle was located before noon east of U. Road on 334th Road. The driver of the vehicle had lost control and crashed off the roadway and in the timber.

Deputies investigated the scene and connected the theft with a suspect. Deputies arrested 23-year-old Austin Riley Richard of Tecumseh in connection with the theft of the vehicle.

Richard was booked in the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of felony theft, criminal damage to property and 3 counts of aggravated violation of the registered offender act.

Richard is being held in the Jackson County Jail. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Kickapoo Police Department assisted with the incident.
