NEWTON COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 3p.m. Thursday in Newton County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by a 17-year-old Seneca boy was westbound on Old 60 Drive just east of Palm Road three miles east of Seneca.
The car crossed the center of the road and the driver overcorrected. The car then traveled off the right side of the road, overturned and struck a tree.
A passenger identified as Steven N. Keith, 18, Seneca, was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen driver and a second passenger Benjamin M. Greene, 18, Seneca, were transported to Freeman West in Joplin. All three were not wearing seat belts, according to the MSHP.
