Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes put together the 21st game winning drive of his career, and set up rookie kicker Spencer Shrader to knock through the biggest kick of his career, as Kansas City beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday afternoon at&nbsp;Bank of America Stadium.

Through the first half however, it looked like the Chiefs had the game in hand, the defense holding the Panthers to just three field goals by&nbsp;Eddy Pineiro, going into the halftime break with a 20-9 lead.&nbsp;

Kansas City opened the scoring on their first drive of the game, following a big 56 yard kickoff return from Samaje Perine, Mahomes connecting with Noah Gray for a 35 yard touchdown after three plays.&nbsp; Pinero knocked through his first field goal of the half on the following drive, from 30 yards out, which the Chiefs answered with a field goal of their own, 25 yards by Shrader.

Again, early in the second quarter, Kansas City and Carolina traded field goals with Pineiro hitting from 32 yards and Shrader from 41 yards away, before Gray again found the endzone on a touchdown pass from Mahomes, this time from 11 yards out.&nbsp; Pineiro closed out the half with his third field goal, from 29 yards out, sending both teams to the locker room.&nbsp;

The two touchdowns in the first half for Gray gave him back to back weeks with multiple scores, after he got his first two touchdowns of the season last week in the loss against Buffalo.

Though it looked like the Chiefs had the game in hand, the second half was all Panthers, first getting a one yard touchdown pass from Bryce Young to David Moore after a 15 play drive to start the half.&nbsp; Kansas City did answer with a touchdown to extend their lead, Mahomes connecting with Deandre Hopkins on a three yard pass.&nbsp;

Then the rally by the Panthers began, first with a 33 yard field goal by Pineiro to finish another long 11 play drive that carried between the third and fourth quarters.&nbsp; After three consecutive drives ended with punts, the Carolina offense went to work again, and Young drove down the field over five plays, before Chuba Hubbard pounded the ball in from one yard away.&nbsp;

The Panthers failed the first two point conversion attempt, but a defensive pass interference call on Trent Mcduffie gave them a second chance, where Hubbard rushed up the middle, tying up the game with 1:46 left in regulation.&nbsp;

But as many teams have learned over the years, especially this year, you never want to leave the Chiefs with time.&nbsp; Mahomes completed short passes to Travis Kelce and Hopkins for a first down, and then scrambled for 33 yards, putting the Chiefs in field goal range, and after another 10 yard run by Kareem Hunt, Shrader the rookie kicker signed off the Jets practice squad marched out, hitting a 31 yard field goal and wiping out the remaining two seconds to give Kansas City their 10th win of the season.&nbsp;

“You always want to have some blowouts and be a little calmer in the fourth quarter, but I've always said it could be a good thing when you get to the playoffs later in the season knowing that you have been in those moments before, and knowing how to attack it play by play not making it too big of a moment,” Mahomes said.

Then he smiled and said: “But I would say this more than anybody, I would love to win a game not by the very last play.”

Mahomes was 27 of 37 passing for 269 yards with three touchdowns, rushing five times for 60 yards.&nbsp; Hunt ran 16 times for 68 yards, while Gray (four catches, 66 yards, 2TDs) and Kelce (six catches, 62 yards) paced the receivers.

Kansas City is now 10-1 on the season.&nbsp; They return to Arrowhead Stadium for the first ever game on Black Friday, taking on the Las Vegas Raiders.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 2pm, pregame will be at 1pm on KFEQ and Q Country 92.7.

Chiefs win at the buzzer against Panthers 30-27 thanks to Spencer Shrader field goal

Tigers carried by Carroll's 3 TD game in win over Mississippi State

The #23 Missouri Tigers trailed early, but a big defensive play helped flip the script, and the Tigers defeated Mississippi State in dominant fashion on Saturday in Starkville 39-20.&nbsp;

Missouri trailed 3-0 early in the game after the Bulldogs opened the scoring with a 38 yard field goal from&nbsp;Kyle Ferrie.&nbsp; Mizzou's offense struggled to get going, with two consecutive three and outs, but it was the defense that got the Tigers on the board first, defensive lineman punching the ball out of the hands of Mississippi State quarterback&nbsp;Michael Van Buren Jr.'s hands before Daylan Carnell scooped it up and went 37 yards to the house for the touchdown.&nbsp;

The defensive touchdown was the spark Mizzou needed, scoring another first quarter touchdown after forcing a three and out by the Bulldogs, running back Marcus Carroll rushing in from two yards out, his first of three touchdowns on the day.&nbsp;

The Bulldogs did answer with a score of their own, an 11 yard touchdown pass from Van Buren Jr to&nbsp;Jordan Mosley, but in the second quarter the Tigers scored 14 unanswered points, Brady Cook threading the needle for a 28 yard touchdown pass to Luther Burden III and a 19 yard rushing score from Carroll.&nbsp; The Bulldogs ended the scoring in the half with another field goal from Ferrie, this time from 26 yards away, sending Mizzou to the halftime break with a 28-13 lead.&nbsp;

The Tigers extended the lead midway through the third quarter, a 35 yard field goal from Blake Craig, before the Bulldogs scored their final touchdown of the game on the following drive in just two plays as Davon Booth broke a 43 yard run.&nbsp; The final score of the game came in the fourth quarter, Carroll's third touchdown from one yard out.&nbsp;

Cook was 15 of 20 passing on the day for 268 yards with one touchdown. While Carroll scored all the touchdowns, rushing for 61 yards on 14 carries, it was Nate Noel that was the leading rusher with 25 carries for 95 yards.&nbsp; Burden III caught seven passes for 91 yards and the touchdown.&nbsp;

Missouri will close out the regular season on Saturday in the annual Battle Line rivalry game against Arkansas at Faurot Field. Kickoff is set for 2:30, with pregame at 12:30 on KFEQ.&nbsp; The game will be televised on SEC Network.&nbsp;

Jayhawks top Colorado for third straight win over ranked opponent

The Kansas Jayhawks have looked like a completely different team through the month of November.&nbsp; On Saturday, at Arrowhead Stadium, they extended their win streak to three games, all over ranked opponents, beating the#16 Colorado Buffaloes 37-21.&nbsp;

With the win Kansas also made college football history becoming the first FBS team ever to win three straight games against ranked opponents with a losing record.&nbsp;

The Jayhawks started off the game on a 17-0 run before even allowing Colorado to get onto the scoreboard, starting immediately with a big play on the first drive of the game, a 51 yard touchdown pass from Jalon Daniels to Devin Neal.&nbsp; After a three and out from the Buffaloes, the Jayhawks put together a 13 play drive for the only other score of the first quarter, a 24 yard field goal from Tabor Allen.&nbsp;

After Kansas forced a turnover on downs early in the second quarter, the Jayhawks added another touchdown from Neal on the ground, a nine yard score.&nbsp; From there, both teams went on to trade scoring blows.&nbsp;

The Buffaloes finally found the scoreboard after a four play drive, getting a big play of their own from quarterback Shedeur Sanders with a 51 yard touchdown pass to Travis Hunter.&nbsp; After the Jayhawks answered with another field goal by Allen, this time from 23 yards out, Sanders found the endzone again through the air, this time 19 yards to&nbsp;Drelon Miller narrowing the lead.&nbsp; Allen knocked through his third field goal to end the half, from 25 yards away, sending Kansas to the halftime break with a 23-14 lead.&nbsp;

Colorado scored their final touchdown of the game on the first drive of the second half, Sanders again connecting with Hunter for a 26 yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Neal scored the final two touchdowns for the Jayhawks, a one yard score in the third quarter and a two yard rush early in the fourth quarter.

Daniels was 14 of 21 passing for 189 yards with one touchdown, also rushing six times for 72 yards. Neal ran 37 times for 207 yards with three touchdowns, and had four catches for 80 yards and a score to lead the receivers.&nbsp; &nbsp;Neal also passed 1,000 yards rushing on the season, hitting the mark for a third season in a row, and becoming the first player in Kansas football history to run for 1,000+ yards in three straight seasons.

Kansas will wrap up the regular season next week on the road taking on Baylor, looking to finish the season at .500.&nbsp; Kickoff from McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas will be at 11am on Saturday.&nbsp; The game will be televised on ESPN2.K

Kansas State snaps two game losing skid behind Giddens' big day

Behind a dominant first half, the Kansas State Wildcats snapped a two game losing skid against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday night at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, winning 41-15.&nbsp;

The first half was dominant for the Wildcats as they scored on five of their six offensive drives, starting with the first drive of the game that took just five plays before quarterback Avery Johnson rushed for a 21 yard score early in the frame.&nbsp; Late in the quarter to end an eight play drive, Chris Tennant knocked in a field goal from 28 yards away.&nbsp;

And the scoring wasn't over there, following a turnover on downs by Cincinnati, Kansas State got another field goal from Tennant early in the second quarter, this time from 38 yards out, before finding the endzone on a 32 yard run from DJ Giddens.&nbsp;

The Bearcats temporarily slowed down the Kansas State run, but only with a 42 yard field goal from&nbsp;Nathan Hawks, the Wildcats though would score once more before halftime, with eight seconds left, Johnson finding Tre Spivey for a six yard touchdown pass, giving Kansas State a 27-3 halftime lead.&nbsp;

Cincinnati scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter, a nine yard touchdown pass from&nbsp;Brendan Sorsby to&nbsp;Tony Johnson, but failed the two point conversion attempt.&nbsp; 

Kansas State added two more touchdowns though in the fourth quarter, Giddens scoring his second rushing touchdown from 17 yards and Johnson getting his third touchdown overall through the air connecting with Will Swanson for an eight yard pass, before the Bearcats got the final score of the game, Sorsby finding Johnson again for a six yard touchdown pass.&nbsp;

Johnson was 13 of 23 passing for 147 yards with two touchdowns, also rushing 10 times for 72 yards and one score.&nbsp; Giddens rushed 15 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns, while Spivey led the receivers with five catches for 63 yards and a score.

Kansas State will end the regular season at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa taking on #23 Iowa State.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 6:30pm.&nbsp; The game will be televised on Fox.

Cornhuskers bowl eligible after dominant win over Wisconsin

The Nebraska Cornhuskers stopped a four-game losing streak and beat the&nbsp; Wisconsin Badgers for the first time in 11 meetings, beating the Badgers 44-25 on Senior Day at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Saturday.&nbsp;

The victory was the Cornhuskers' first in nine tries under second-year coach Matt Rhule when playing for bowl eligibility.&nbsp; The Huskers came into the season with the longest bowl drought among power-conference teams and the program's longest since 1955-61.

The game started with both teams trading touchdowns on their first two offensive drives, first with Nebraska getting a five yard rushing touchdown by backup quarterback&nbsp;Heinrich Haarberg, before Wisconsin answered with a four yard passing touchdown from&nbsp;Braedyn Locke to&nbsp;Bryson Green.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After the game went into the second quarter tied at seven, the Corhuskers pulled ahead early in the frame,&nbsp; on an eight play drive that carried between quarters, running back Dante Dowdell rushing in from 12 yards out.&nbsp; The Badgers answered on the next offensive drive, but only with a field goal, 33 yards from&nbsp;Nathanial Vakos.

Nebraska went on to punt on their next drive, and after Wisconsin missed a field goal, the Cornhuskers put together a 10 play drive that ended with freshman standout quarterback Dylan Raiola finding&nbsp;Jahmal Banks in the back of the endzone from five yards out.&nbsp; The Badgers fumbled on the next offensive drive, setting Nebraska kicker&nbsp;John Hohl up for a 37 yard field goal with two seconds left, and the Huskers took a 24-10 lead to the halftime break.&nbsp;

Hohl opened the scoring in the second half for Nebraska with a 45 yard field goal, and after the Huskers defense forced a turnover on downs by the Badgers, the offense went to work for a seven play drive that ended with a three yard touchdown by Dowdell, his second score of the day.

Wisconsin scored quickly however after the touchdown, needing just four plays for Locke to again connect with Green from 24 yards away, continuing to try to fight their way back into the game, something Nebraska would not allow going into the final quarter.&nbsp;

Hohl again started the scoring in the final frame, a 26 yard field goal, which was followed with Locke's third touchdown pass of the game 58 yards to&nbsp;Vinny Anthony II with a two point conversion pass from Locke to Green, but the final score of the game by the Huskers put it away, Dowdell rushing in from one yard out.&nbsp;

Raiola was 28 of 38 passing for 293 yards with one touchdown. Emmett Johnson led all rushers with 16 carries for 113 yards,&nbsp; the first time in his 27 career games, while Dowdell rushed 10 times for 41 yards with three scores.&nbsp; Johnson (six catches, 85 yards) and&nbsp;Jacory Barney Jr. (nine catches, 85 yards) led the receivers.

Nebraska will finish the regular season on the road with a rivalry matchup in Iowa City at Kinnick Stadium, taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 6:30 pm.&nbsp; The game will be televised on NBC.

#9 Benedictine draws #8 Texas Wesleyan in second round of playoffs

With the First Round concluded, the NAIA announced the 8 Second-Round pairings for the Second Round of the 2024 NAIA Football Championship Series on Saturday night, and (9) Benedictine Football will be heading South.

The Ravens will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on (8) Texas Wesleyan University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Crowley Multipurpose Stadium.

Texas Wesleyan earned its berth into the FCS after finishing the regular season at 10-0 and earning the automatic berth as the Sooner Athletic Conference champion.

The winner between the Ravens and the Rams will advance to the Quarterfinals of the NAIA FCS played at a campus site designated by the NAIA based on the remaining seeded programs.

Benedictine Football earned 23 All-Heart South honors&nbsp; with three individual award winners.

Receiver Jacob Gathright was named the Heart South Player of the Year, quarterback Jackson Dooley was named the Heart South Offensive Player of the Year, and head coach Joel Osborn was named the Heart South Head Coach of the Year.

Offensively, Dooley and Gathright were joined on the first team by JaShawn Todd (WR), Tanner Zimmerman (TE), Britton Smith (OL), Rashad Beckham (OL) and Ja'Kobe Hinton (OL). Defensively, Isaac Anderson (DL), Heath Baker (DL), Zachary LaCombe (LB), Javhi Blomquist (DB), and Jackson Hoskins (DB) were named to the first team Cullen Bruner (P), and Zach Philippi (LS) joined Todd as first-team special teams list. Todd was named the first-team kick returner and athlete.

Two Ravens earned second-team honors on offense in Dalton Witherspoon (RB) and Harrison Schmitt (OL), while Abram Phillips (LB) was named to the second-team defense. Harry Balke was named as the second-team kicker.

Joseph Lagafuaina (WR), Tim Glaser (DL), and Blue Caplinger (DB) rounded out the Ravens all-conference honors, as they were all named honorable mention.

Despite making the playoffs last season, the Kansas City Royals did have their share of weaknesses, one of those being in the leadoff position.&nbsp; To start the MLB offseason, the Royals have seemed to address that problem.

On Friday, Kansas City traded homegrown pitcher Brady Singer to the Cincinnati Reds for second baseman Jonathan India and outfielder Joey Wiemer.

India was the National League’s Rookie of the Year in 2021 and has been a key piece of the Reds’ infield for the past four years. He has a career .253/.352/.412 slash line, and in 2024, when he wasn’t totally healthy despite playing 151 games, he posted a .749 OPS with 15 home runs and 28 doubles.

India certainly fits the bill of leadoff hitter, ahead of Bobby Witt Jr in the two hole.&nbsp;&nbsp;He’s spent more time at the top of the order (341 games) than any other spots (182 games in the other eight spots combined) in his career. He also has a .257/.360/.416 slash line batting first in the lineup over his career. In 2024, India posted a .357 OBP and walked at a 12.6 percent clip, which was tied for fourth best in baseball.

Where India fits defensively is yet to be determined. He has only played second base in his MLB career, but he could have the ability to play third base and outfield. The Royals will discuss his fit, along with returning second baseman Michael Massey’s, throughout this offseason. 

Massey talked with General Manager JJ Picollo this season about learning left field as a way to increase his versatility and brought up the conversation again following the Royals’ playoff exit in the American League Division Series.

Wiemer,made his debut in 2023 with the Brewers and was traded to the Reds in ’24 as part of the deal that sent Frankie Montas to Milwaukee. Wiemer is primarily a center fielder but has played all three outfield positions in the Minors and Majors.

After spending the majority of 2023 in the Majors with the Brewers -- where he posted a .645 OPS with 13 home runs -- Wiemer was in Triple-A for most of ’24 both with Milwaukee and Cincinnati. Across the two organizations, he slashed .224/.351/.312. Kyle Isbel will still get the majority of at-bats in center field for Kansas City, but Wiemer will compete for a fourth outfielder spot in Spring Training and is viewed as more of a long-term acquisition with his untapped upside.

India and Singer were once teammates at Florida and were both selected in the first round of the 2018 Draft, India by Cincinnati fifth overall and Singer by Kansas City 18th overall. The Royals have always been fond of India, and he was identified as a potential trade target during this past season

Dealing Singer away hurts the Royals, but he was their main trade candidate as a durable, controllable starter. The 28-year-old was the first of the Royals’ college pitching-heavy 2018 Draft class to reach the Majors and stick there, accumulating 8.9 bWAR as a Royal and pitching to a 4.28 ERA across 127 games (124 starts) over the past five years. In 2024, he posted a 3.71 ERA across 32 starts and 179 2/3 innings.

“Brady’s a tremendous competitor,” Picollo said. “This was not the easiest decision to make. You got a guy who takes the ball, wants to win, he’s been through the tough times and now the good times.”

But to get Major League talent, the Royals had to trade Major League talent. Parting with a starter to acquire a leadoff hitter – their No. 1 need – plus an upside young player was “a risk worth taking,” Picollo said.

Cole Ragans, Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha will return as the Royals’ top starters in 2025. To fill out the rest of the rotation, they will lean on their depth: Alec Marsh, Kris Bubic, Daniel Lynch IV, Kyle Wright and prospect Noah Cameron.

Royals trade Singer, acquire 2B Jonathan India and OF Joey Wiemer

The Kansas City Royals added three players to their 40 man roster on Tuesday, ahead of the deadline to protect eligible players from the Rule 5 draft.&nbsp;

If Rule 5-eligible players -- those who signed at age 18 or younger five seasons ago or who signed at age 19 or older four seasons ago -- are not added to teams’ 40-man rosters, they are exposed to be taken in the Rule 5 Draft next month.

Left-hander Noah Cameron, ranked the Royals’ No. 12 prospect by MLB Pipeline, and righties Luinder Avila (No. 26) and Eric Cerantola (No. 29) were placed the roster on Tuesday. Kansas City's roster now sits at 37 players, with a few spots open for the offseason upgrades the Royals are trying to make.

Cameron knocked on the door of making his major league debut last season, had the Royals not been in the postseason race late.&nbsp; The left handed pitcher posted a 3.08 ERA across 128.2 innings between Triple A Omaha and Double A Northwest Arkansas.&nbsp;

It was his nine starts in Omaha that were the most impressive, going 3-2 with a 2.32 ERA and striking out 62 batters, a 29% strikeout rate to go with a 5.1% walk rate.&nbsp;

The Royals drafted Cameron in the seventh round in 2021 out of Central Arkansas. He was coming off of Tommy John surgery that year and has missed time with injuries early in his pro career, but he’s been remarkably consistent with his production otherwise. He thrives off his command and fills up the strike zone. He’ll compete for a spot on the Royals’ pitching staff in Spring Training, but he’s part of the depth that the Royals are excited about in 2025.

Avila, whose 23 years old, just finished a stint in the Arizona Fall League, making up for some innings he missed because of injury this past season. In 14 2/3 innings across five games (three starts) this fall, Avila posted a 3.07 ERA, with 17 strikeouts and eight walks. 

He spent the majority of ‘24 in Double-A, making just one start in Triple-A at the end of the year. With the Naturals, Avila threw 82 2/3 innings across 19 starts and posted a 3.81 ERA.

Cerantola, 24 years old, has a big arm that can reach 100 mph. He pitched to a 2.97 ERA and had a strikeout percentage north of 31% this year across Double-A and Triple-A, spending the majority of the year in Northwest Arkansas, where he allowed 18 earned runs in 58 1/3 innings.

 In Triple-A at the end of the year, he posted a 3.77 ERA. He appeared in 37 games total (seven starts) and is seen as a multi-inning reliever.

At the Rule 5 Draft, teams that do pick a player must pay $100,000 to the club from which the player was selected. The selected player is assigned to the club’s 26-man roster and is essentially treated like a player without options –-- to be removed from the 40-man roster, they must be placed on outright waivers and exposed to other teams to claim.

 Should the player clear waivers, he can be offered back to his previous team for $50,000. A Rule 5 Draft pick can be placed on the injured list, but he must be active for a minimum of 90 days to avoid being subject to the aforementioned roster restrictions in the next campaign.

The Royals selected Yankees righty Matt Sauer last December, and he made his debut with Kansas City in 2024. But by May the Royals needed the roster spot, and Sauer went back to New York.

 </figure>By MATT PIKESt. Joseph PostThe Kansas City Royals added three players to their 40 man roster on Tuesday, ahead of the deadline to protect eligible players from the Rule 5 draft.&nbsp;If Rule 5-eligible players -- those who signed at age 18 or younger five seasons ago or who signed at age 19 or older four seasons ago -- are not added to teams’ 40-man rosters, they are exposed to be taken in the Rule 5 Draft next month.Left-hander Noah Cameron, ranked the Royals’ No. 12 prospect by MLB Pipeline, and righties Luinder Avila (No. 26) and Eric Cerantola (No. 29) were placed the roster on Tuesday. Kansas City's roster now sits at 37 players, with a few spots open for the offseason upgrades the Royals are trying to make.Cameron knocked on the door of making his major league debut last season, had the Royals not been in the postseason race late.&nbsp; The left handed pitcher posted a 3.08 ERA across 128.2 innings between Triple A Omaha and Double A Northwest Arkansas.&nbsp;It was his nine starts in Omaha that were the most impressive, going 3-2 with a 2.32 ERA and striking out 62 batters, a 29% strikeout rate to go with a 5.1% walk rate.&nbsp;The Royals drafted Cameron in the seventh round in 2021 out of Central Arkansas. He was coming off of Tommy John surgery that year and has missed time with injuries early in his pro career, but he’s been remarkably consistent with his production otherwise. He thrives off his command and fills up the strike zone. He’ll compete for a spot on the Royals’ pitching staff in Spring Training, but he’s part of the depth that the Royals are excited about in 2025.<figure>

 </figure>Avila, whose 23 years old, just finished a stint in the Arizona Fall League, making up for some innings he missed because of injury this past season. In 14 2/3 innings across five games (three starts) this fall, Avila posted a 3.07 ERA, with 17 strikeouts and eight walks. He spent the majority of ‘24 in Double-A, making just one start in Triple-A at the end of the year. With the Naturals, Avila threw 82 2/3 innings across 19 starts and posted a 3.81 ERA.<figure>

 </figure>Cerantola, 24 years old, has a big arm that can reach 100 mph. He pitched to a 2.97 ERA and had a strikeout percentage north of 31% this year across Double-A and Triple-A, spending the majority of the year in Northwest Arkansas, where he allowed 18 earned runs in 58 1/3 innings. In Triple-A at the end of the year, he posted a 3.77 ERA. He appeared in 37 games total (seven starts) and is seen as a multi-inning reliever.At the Rule 5 Draft, teams that do pick a player must pay $100,000 to the club from which the player was selected. The selected player is assigned to the club’s 26-man roster and is essentially treated like a player without options –-- to be removed from the 40-man roster, they must be placed on outright waivers and exposed to other teams to claim. Should the player clear waivers, he can be offered back to his previous team for $50,000. A Rule 5 Draft pick can be placed on the injured list, but he must be active for a minimum of 90 days to avoid being subject to the aforementioned roster restrictions in the next campaign.The Royals selected Yankees righty Matt Sauer last December, and he made his debut with Kansas City in 2024. Northwest Missouri State University has announced that there will be a leadership change for the football program next season.&nbsp;

Head Coach Rich Wright's contract will not be renewed, effective December 31st, after serving as head coach for eight seasons.&nbsp; Northwest closed out the season with a 23-7 loss to Pittsburg State, leaving the final record at 6-5 overall, 6-4 in the MIAA.

Athletic Director Andy Peterson says a national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.&nbsp; In the interim, Co-Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach Chad Bostwick will serve as the interim head coach.

Northwest football announces leadership change, Rich Wright out

St. Joseph Christian's Lexi McDaniel, the top softball recruit in the nation, is continuing her career at a college softball powerhouse.   

The Oklahoma Sooners softball team have won national championships four years in a row, and six out of the last eight, and have yet another number one recruiting class in the country, which includes McDaniel 

McDaniel says it's almost unexplainable of how it feels to know she'll be a part of the run Sooner's softball is on.  

"The feeling, the emotions, just everything about it is so cool and it's just an amazing opportunity that I'm so excited to be a part of," McDaniel tells reporters following her signing. 

McDaniel officially signed her letter of intent on Monday, after announcing her commitment last year. 

McDaniel says what drew her to Oklahoma was the culture 

"All of the people there were fantastic, the coaching staff was absolutely amazing, the girls who are already there just really love the program and buy into the program and I knew that that's the type of people I wanted to put myself around," McDaniel says. "And obviously, they are definitely very good, and it's just super cool that I get to experience this and work to be the best that I can." 

McDaniel is only the second Division One commit in the history of St. Joseph Christian.   

McDaniel has played solely organization softball over her career, with St. Joseph Christian not having a softball team, starting with the Aces organization out of Kansas City. 

Aces head coach Ryan Taylor says he began to see something special in McDaniel in her second year of 14U, beginning to separate herself offensively. 

"Not just within the organization, but throughout the country, to where you're like ok there's something here, right, the swings special and it's not just against a few pitchers it's against some of the kids that people are touting as the best pitchers in the country, not only at her age group but also at older age groups," Taylor explains.  "And you start to see her just really gain traction in that and start her climb." 

McDaniel began working with Aces at 12 years old.  In her career thus far, she has 578 hits, 93 home runs and has scored 461 runs to be the club's all-time leader. 

McDaniel says she'll play wherever legendary Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso needs her to, though she has primary played in the infield, and does not know if she'll play right away.  

She has one tournament left this fall for the Ace's and will play in the spring and summer as well before heading to Norman, Oklahoma to join the Sooners.

St. Joseph Christian's Lexi McDaniel officially signs to play softball at Oklahoma

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- — After watching quarterback Josh Allen bounce off two Kansas City Chiefs defenders before crossing the goal line on a 26-yard run, Bills receiver Khalil Shakir joined the rest of the packed Buffalo stadium by screaming at the top of his lungs.

Allen's touchdown on fourth-and-2 with 2:17 left sealed Buffalo’s 30-21 victory, kept the Bills (9-2) in contention for the AFC’s top seed and spoiled the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs' bid for a perfect season.

“When Josh takes off, I find myself just watching, like, ‘Wow, he’s different,’” Shakir said. “When he took off today, I just started yelling. I couldn’t stop yelling. I was blanking in the head.”

Bills fans chimed in by chanting “MVP! MVP!” while watching the replay of their quarterback bursting up the middle to secure a victory in the latest matchup against the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs (9-1), who ended Buffalo’s playoff runs in three of the past four seasons.

Allen evened his record to 4-4 (including playoffs) against the Chiefs. He said he knew what was on the line when coach Sean McDermott elected to go for it on fourth down rather than settle for a field goal.

“I appreciated coach for trusting us,” said Allen, who took off up the right hash mark, shrugged off being shouldered by linebacker Nick Bolton and had enough momentum to reach the end zone while wrapped up by safety Bryan Cook.

“Any time you give the ball back to Pat (Mahomes), that offense, down six with the game on the line, I like their odds in that situation,” Allen added. “So wanting six or seven (points) to try to make it a two-score game.”

Buffalo’s defense ended Kansas City’s desperate final drive when linebacker Terrel Bernard intercepted Mahomes.

James Cook rushed for two first-half touchdowns and Allen threw a 12-yard TD pass to Curtis Samuel early in the fourth quarter. The Bills never relinquished the lead after going ahead 16-14 on Tyler Bass’ 33-yard field goal on the final play of the first half.

The Chiefs were the NFL’s last undefeated team and finally ran out ways to eke out one-score victories and overcome second-half deficits. The Chiefs had won 15 straight, including playoffs, since they fell 20-14 to the Las Vegas Raiders on Dec. 25, 2023.

“The undefeated thing was cool. But that’s not our ultimate goal. So we’ll keep building toward that,” Mahomes said.

“That’s a good football team. Nothing to hang your head on losing to them,” he added. “We feel like we can play better. So we’ll get back to work and try to use this as a spark so we can be a better football team in the end.”

There's a chance these teams will meet again in the playoffs, where the Chiefs have dominated the rivalry. Though Buffalo has won four straight regular-season meetings dating to 2021, the Chiefs have won three straight playoff matchups, including a 27-24 win at Buffalo in the divisional round in January.

“It’s a great game to learn from for some of our young guys. Two good teams play each other, the margin between winning and losing is small,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “We can all learn from it and take something out of it to make us better down the road there. And we’ll do that.”

Mahomes finished 23 of 33 for 196 yards with three touchdown passes — two to tight end Noah Gray and another to Xavier Worthy — and two interceptions.

The Chiefs had shown resolve in winning their first nine games by a combined 58 points, with four decided on the final play. That included a 16-14 win over Denver last week in which Leo Chenal blocked Wil Lutz’s 35-yard field goal attempt as time expired.

This time, there were no late dramatics from a Chiefs offense that finished with a season-low 259 yards.

The Bills have won six straight and moved closer to their fifth straight AFC East title. Buffalo is 9-2 or better through 11 games for the sixth time in team history and first since 1992.

“No statement,” McDermott said of the win’s significance. “This is not the finish line.”

The Bills have a chance to rest and heal up entering their bye week. Amari Cooper made two catches for 58 yards while playing with a sore left wrist, and wide receiver Keon Coleman (right wrist) and tight end Dalton Kincaid (knee) were sidelined by injuries.

Allen played through a sore throwing hand, which was examined on the sideline during the game. He finished 27 of 40 for 262 yards with the TDs passing and rushing and an interception.

The rushing touchdown was the 58th of Allen’s career, moving him into second on the Bills list, one ahead of O.J. Simpson and seven behind Thurman Thomas. Allen’s two-touchdown outing also increased his total to 244, tying Jim Kelly for first in team history.

Chiefs regular season struggles against Bills continue, suffer first loss 30-21

#9 Benedictine breaks records in win over William Woods

The #9 Benedictine Ravens closed out the regular season with a record breaking win over William Woods at NCAC Stadium in Fulton, winning 86-0 and securing a share of the Heart South conference title.&nbsp;

The Ravens set records for single game points as well as rushing yards allowed in the win.&nbsp;&nbsp;The previous record for points was 84 and was set during the 2018 season in a home win over Graceland. The Ravens held the Owls to minus-61 yards rushing, breaking a 24-year-old record previously set at minus-58 yards against Graceland during the 2000 season.

The Ravens jumped out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter. Harry Balke connected on a pair of field goals – 35 yards and 28 yards – while the Ravens scored 4 points off 2 safeties before Joseph Lagafuiana returned the second free kick for a 98-yard return to make it 17-0.

Benedictine exploded for 41 points in the second quarter and Jackson Dooley went to the air, connecting on 5 touchdown passes to break the Ravens single-season passing record. He connected on a 10-yard pass to Matthew Sanford, a 35-yard pass to Jacob Gathright, and an 8-yard pass to Lagafuiana to tie the record at 33 passing touchdowns. He broke the record on a 46-yard pass to Lagafuiana and then added to his record with a 5-yard pass to Kameron Dover.

Special Teams capped off the first-half scoring after Dylan Witherspoon blocked a punt at the William Woods 30-yard line that found its way to the end zone where it was recovered by Trey Williams for a touchdown to send the Ravens into halftime leading 58-0.

Three more touchdowns put the Ravens on the cusp of the scoring record in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from Kaden Austin to Sanford for 8-yards. That was followed up by a 7-yard rushing touchdown from Jonah Roberts and a 7-yard rushing touchdown from Robbie Sharp to make it 79-0 headed into the fourth quarter.

Austin hit Callahan Huston on a pass that Huston broke loose for 60 yards to give the Ravens the new scoring record and end the scoring for the game.

Dooley finished with 136 yards on 10 of 18 passing with 5 touchdowns while Austin went 3 of 5 with 2 touchdowns. JJ Jackson led the Ravens with 68 yards on 12 carries, followed by Sharp with 56 yards, Xavier Ugorji with 45, Roberts with 32, and Dalton Witherspoon with 34. Lagafuiana finished with 54 yards receiving on 2 catches while Jacob Gathright added 36 yards on 2 catches.

Defensively, Benedictine finished with 5 sacks for a loss of 56 yards, 8 tackles for a loss of 72 yards, four forced fumbles with two fumble recoveries, and 3 interceptions.

The Ravens finished the season 9-2 (5-1 Heart South).&nbsp;The 2024 NAIA Football Championship Selection Show is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday where the Ravens will learn their postseason seeding for the FCS.

Big second half helps Missouri Western close out season with victory

The Missouri Western Griffons overcame six turnovers and 10 penalties and scored a 30-16 win over Quincy in the regular season finale at Spratt Memorial Stadium on Saturday.&nbsp;

The scoring got started for Missouri Western on the defensive side of the ball when senior Jaden Brown forced a fumble, allowing junior Kienen Gaskin to scoop and score giving the Griffons an early lead.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Griffons offense struggled to find rhythm early, their first two drives resulting in interceptions, allowing Quincy to take a lead behind a 22 yard field goal from Michael Owens and a four yard rushing score from Teon Dollard, but Missouri Western managed to take the lead back just before the end of the quarter,&nbsp; Branden Berwald connecting with senior Tyler Carey for a 64-yard touchdown - Carey's third touchdown catch of over 60 yards this season.

In the second quarter, a missed field goal, a lost fumble and an interception plagued the offensive attack from Missouri Western, allowing the Hawks to regain the lead with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Drake Davis to Dollard, the lone score of the frame, giving Quincy a 16-14 lead at the halftime break.

Senior Cody Watson added to his historic career by successfully making his program-leading 42nd field goal from 27 yards away to put the Griffons ahead&nbsp; in&nbsp; the opening drive of the second half. Additionally, Watson tied Dustin Strickler for the most extra points (PATs) made in a Griffon uniform, reaching a total of 122, which was also his final try in college.

The Griffons clinched the season finale with a strong performance in the fourth quarter. Junior running back Jayden Williams scoring touchdowns from one yard out on both scoring drives for his first multi-touchdown game of his career.

Missouri Western finished the game with over 504 yards of total offense. Marrell Fountain (92) and Rickie Dunn (91) combined for 183 yards on the ground. Carey added his third 100-yard receiving performance of the season, while senior's Jonas Bennett and Jake Berrey hauled in two catches.

Missouri Western football says goodbye to 18 seniors, who were honored prior to the opening kickoff, as the 2024 season officially came to a close on Saturday afternoon.&nbsp; Griffons finish the season 4-7 (2-7 MIAA).

#23 Tigers suffers defensive collapse late, fall to #21 Gamecocks&nbsp;

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- — South Carolina coach Shane Beamer got a text recently from an SEC rival coach impressed with freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

“You've got ‘Superman’ back there,” the message read, Beamer said.

Sellers may not be the “Man of Steel,” but he's certainly making a major impact for No. 23 South Carolina. And he showed that again on Saturday night with his career-best showing in a 34-30 victory over No. 24 Missouri.

Sellers, a redshirt freshman who took over the starting job from NFL rookie Spencer Rattler, threw for 353 yards and five touchdown passes, the last an inside throw that Raheim Sanders took 15 yards to the end zone with 15 seconds to go as they twice rallied from behind in the fourth quarter.

One play in particular floored Gamecocks defensive tackle Alex Huntley where Sellers twisted out of a sack on the next-to-last scoring drive before hitting tight end Brady Hunt for 11 yards on thrid-and-10. “Did he get sacked?” Huntley recalled saying.

“The second he got out of it, I knew something good was going to happen,” he said.

Sellers has done that more and more the past month after the Gamecocks stood 3-3 after a loss at Alabama on Oct. 12. He's led the way as South Carolina collected wins against Oklahoma (35-9) and ranked teams in Texas A&amp;M (44-20) and Vanderbilt (28-7).

“It's about staying calm, not budging, not flinching,” said Sellers. “Taking one play at a not and not worrying about the outcome.”

That steady approach pulled out a game South Carolina would typically lose.

Twice Missouri took a lead in the final period and twice the Sellers and the Gamecocks answered back with success.

The Gamecocks (7-3, 5-3) have won four straight Southeastern Conference games for the first time since Steve Spurrier was coach in 2012. But it’s now one of Spurrier’s hires with the Gamecocks in Beamer who has South Carolina as the hottest team in the powerhouse conference.

The Tigers (7-3, 3-3) final lead came after Brady Cook’s 37-yard TD pass to Luther Burden III with 1:10 to go for a 30-27 lead.

Sellers, though, was far from done. He hit on passes of 10 and 39 yards to bring the Gamecocks to the Missouri 21. After Sellers’ 7 yard run, he flipped the ball to Sanders who bulled his way across the goal line to send the crowd at Williams-Brice Stadium into a frenzy.

“We were scoring,” said Sanders, nicknamed “Rocket," an Arkansas transfer who's had six of his 11 rushing TDs in the four-game win streak.

Missouri’s last chance ended with Cook was picked off by Jalon Kilgore with 5 seconds left as the Gamecocks beat three consecutive ranked teams for the first time in program history.

Missouri’s Nate Noel ran for 150 yards and a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it didn’t hold up.

The Tigers had defeated Oklahoma 30-23 last week on an scoop-and-score fumble with 22 seconds left. They nearly pulled out their second straight dramatic victory.

“I just think there's a relentlessness that our team plays with, believes in,” Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz said. “Just didn't have enough tonight.”

Missouri: The Tigers had won five straight in the series and coach Eli Drinkwitz had won all three previous times he came to South Carolina’s stadium, including a 20-15 as Appalachian State coach in 2019. That run is over along with the team’s chances of a CFP berth.

South Carolina: The Gamecocks will need plenty of chaos, along with a victory in two weeks at No. 17 Clemson, to make their case as a playoff team. There’s no doubt there are few teams in the SEC who’d want to face South Carolina now.

South Carolina has won four straight SEC games for the first time in 12 years. It had never won three in a row over AP Top 25 teams in program history.

“Say that again,” when asked about that run. “I like the sound of that.”

The streak ends next game when it takes on Wofford, an Football Championship Series team. But the Gamecocks can make it four out of five when they play rival Clemson, ranked 17th, in two weeks.

Missouri's Cook played strongly in his latest start, throwing for 239 yards with a touchdown and an interception after coach Eli Drinkwitz thought it unlikely he'd be recovered enough to play this week. Cook's 35-game starting streak ended last week when he hurt his wrist at Alabama.

#13 Pittsburg State spoils Senior Day for Northwest in finale

The 2024 Northwest Missouri State University football season came to a conclusion Saturday when the No. 13-ranked Pittsburg State University Gorillas collected a 23-7 victory over the Bearcats on Senior Day.

Northwest out-gained Pittsburg State in total yards, 282-171. However, the Gorillas took advantage of a blocked punt for a touchdown, a safety and a pair of scoring drives that began on the short side of the field.

The contest featured a 45-minute lightning delay between the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth quarter.

The game was scoreless until the Gorilla's Jaydon Knight blocked a Cole Lammel punt and it was scooped up by Luke Niggemann at the 7-yard line. Niggemann then took it into the end zone for a touchdown for a 7-0 lead with 4:56 left in the first quarter.

The Bearcats gained the first turnover of the game when Austin McKinney batted a pass away at the goalline and Holden Zigmant corralled the pass for an interception at the one-yard line to thwart a PSU drive.

Unfortunately, Northwest could not gain a first down and was forced to punt. Lammel unleashed a 49-yard punt that was returned by Ryan Medeiros to the Bearcat 32-yard line. The Gorillas then drove 32 yards in four plays and cashed in with a two-yard touchdown run by Niggemann. Niggemann took a direct snap and plunged in from two yards out.

The Gorillas took advantage of the short field late in the first half and marched 41 yards in 10 plays. Niggemann stepped in at quarterback again near the goal line and rolled left for a four-yard keeper that reached the end zone to give PSU a 21-0 lead, which they took into the halftime break.

At the half, Pittsburg State had amassed 144 yards of total offense. Northwest would hold the Gorillas to 27 total yards in the second half.

The Bearcats avoided their first shutout since a 20-0 blanking by South Dakota State in 2003, when quarterback Henry Martin scrambled 38 yards for a touchdown with 3:31 left in the game. For Martin, it was his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.

The Bearcat defense forced another punt with 2:29 to play in the game. Bearcat punt returner Dominic Myers caught the PSU punt at the 5-yard line and was tackled for a two-yard loss putting the Bearcats's backs against the wall to start its drive.

Martin was sacked by Elijah Mort on on the first play of the drive to cap the scoring in the game.
