Masyn Winn struggled against left handed pitchers much of this season, after hitting nine of his 15 home runs off southpaws last year, but remembered how to hit off of them on Monday against the Phillies, helping the Cardinals push their win streak to nine games in a 3-2 win on the road at Citizens Bank Park.&nbsp;

It was&nbsp;Pedro Pagés that got the Cardinals on the board first though in the fourth inning, a single driving in Nolan Arenado who walked to open the inning, but in the bottom half of the inning former Cardinals Edmundo Sosa singled for Philadelphia to score J.T Realmuto to tie up the game at 1-1.&nbsp;

Iván Herrera homered in the top of the sixth inning to give the Redbirds the lead back, but again in the bottom half of the inning it was the Phillies coming back to knot the game back up, Realmuto grounding into a forceout, the All Star catcher reaching first safely but&nbsp;Nick Castellanos being thrown out at second, as Kyle Schwarber was driven in to tie up the game at 2-2.&nbsp;

It was Winn's home run in the seventh inning that was the deciding factor, a 377 foot blast to left center field.&nbsp; Kyle Leahy remained on the mound after finishing out the sixth inning and pitched the seventh inning, earning the win.&nbsp; Ryan Helsley pitched the ninth and notched his eighth save of the season striking out two batters.&nbsp;

Lars Nootbaar was the only Cardinal with multiple hits on the day, going 2-4 at the plate.&nbsp; Winn and Herrera were each 1-3 both also walking once and driving in one run with their solo home runs.&nbsp;

St. Louis and Philadelphia continue their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Sonny Gray (4-1, 3.50 ERA) takes the mound as the Cardinals look to push their win streak to double digits, taking on&nbsp;Jesús Luzardo (3-0, 2.11 ERA) for the Phillies.&nbsp; First pitch is at 5:45pm, with pregame being joined at 5:35 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).

Cardinals run win streak to nine, top Phillies 3-2 in battle

Andre Pallante struck out a season high seven batters and for the first time since 2022 the St. Louis Cardinals have won seven games in a row after beating the Washington Nationals 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.&nbsp;

&nbsp;The Cardinals had benefited from lockdown pitching recently, including back-to-back shutouts as part of a 21-inning scoreless streak.&nbsp;&nbsp;Pallante continued the latter trend Saturday, with a season-high 7.1 innings of two-run ball on three hits, zero walks and the seven strikeouts.

St. Louis put up all the runs they needed early with a four run second inning.&nbsp; Willson Contreras was hit by a pitch and Alec Burleson walked before Pedro Pagés singled to score Contreras, Nolan Gorman advancing to second base after reaching first on a fielders choice.&nbsp; Victor Scott II's single drove in Gorman and Lars Nootbaar followed that with a double to bring home&nbsp;Pagés and Scott II.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The RBI base knock extended Scott’s hitting streak to a career-high 10 games. During the streak, Scott is hitting .387 (12-for-31) with one home run, seven RBIs, seven runs and two stolen bases.&nbsp; The Nationals scored both their runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two run home run by Dylan Crews.&nbsp;

Cards push win streak to 7 for first time since '22 with 4-2 win over Nats

The Kansas City Royals seven game win streak was snapped as the Boston Red Sox poured on runs against their bullpen after Cole Ragans was unable to go past the fifth inning, falling 10-1 on Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium.&nbsp;

Boston started the scoring taking the lead in the top of the third inning, Rafael Devers doubling home Jarren Duran, but the Royals were able to tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning when Mark Canha singled home Bobby Witt Jr, but from there Kansas City would be unable to push any more runs across.&nbsp;

The Red Sox scored three runs in the fifth inning off Ragans, back to back to back singles by Duran, Devers, and Alex Bregman driving in&nbsp;Carlos Narváez,&nbsp;Ceddanne Rafaela, and Bregman's single scoring Duran to push the lead to 4-1.&nbsp; Another three runs scored in the seventh on a home run by Trevor Story, before the final three runs were added in the eighth, a two run home run by&nbsp;Narváez and Devers singling to score&nbsp;Rafaela who tripled.

Ragans took the loss, falling to 2-2 on the season, striking out eight batters despite not being able to go past five innings for a fourth straight start.&nbsp; Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, and Hunter Renfroe each had two hits in the loss.&nbsp;

Royals win streak snapped falling to Red Sox 10-1

Erick Fedde’s return to Nationals Park couldn’t have gone much better for him or the St. Louis Cardinals.&nbsp; The right-hander pitched his first career complete game as St. Louis shut out the Nationals 10-0 in the opener of a three-game series Friday night.

Fedde was Washington’s first-round pick in 2014 and played part of six seasons with the team before spending 2023 playing in South Korea. He split last season between the White Sox and St. Louis, but did not make a return to the stadium he debuted in for either team.

It was the Cardinals’ first complete game since Jordan Montgomery threw a one-hit shutout against the Cubs on Aug. 22, 2022.&nbsp; With the win, St. Louis has also now&nbsp;won six in a row for the first time since July 15-20, 2023.

The Cardinals poured it on early, leading 6-0 by the end of the first five innings.&nbsp; Two runs scored in the first, both on one hit as Willson Contreras doubled to score Lars Nootbaar and Masyn Winn.&nbsp;&nbsp;Iván Herrera, in his return from the injured list, drove in Brendan Donovan in the third inning on a sacrifice fly.&nbsp; Another single run scored in the fourth on another sacrifice fly, this time by Victor Scott II driving in&nbsp;Pagés.

In the fifth inning,&nbsp;Herrera added another RBI scoring Nolan Arenado with his third double of the season, advancing Contreras to third base.&nbsp; Contreras scored in the next at bat on the third sacrifice fly of the game, this time by Jordan Walker, extending the lead to 6-0 before&nbsp;Pagés struck out and Scott flew out to end the inning.&nbsp;

Cardinals shutout Nats 10-0 as Fedde goes the distance

The series opener between the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals was a pitchers duel all the way through, until the Royals finally made something happen in the 12th inning, Freddy Fermin hitting a walk off single for a 2-1 win, and Kansas City's seventh straight victory.&nbsp;

For the first time in 47 years, Kansas City has won 16 of their last 18 games, and are 9-1 over their last 10 games, staying hot at the top of the American League Central where the Detroit Tigers are 8-2 over their last 10 games, as are the Cleveland Guardians.&nbsp;

Locked in a 0-0 tie entering the 11th inning, Boston picked up the first run of the game off Daniel Lynch, Rafael Devers grounding out and driving in&nbsp;Ceddanne Rafaela who opened the inning at second base, but the Royals came right back in the bottom half with a game tying RBI hit from Vinnie Pasquantino, scoring Drew Waters.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the 12th, Cavan Biggio bunted automatic runner Michael Massey over to third, with Fermin bringing him home moments later with the RBI single.

That picked up an incredible pitching performance from the Royals, with six pitchers only allowing one run in 12 innings. Reliever Steven Cruz earned his first career MLB win after recording two outs in the 12th inning.&nbsp;&nbsp;Royals starter Michael Lorenzen picked up where Michael Wacha and Kris Bubic had left off the past two days, throwing another seven scoreless innings. Lorenzen only allowed three hits and one hit batter, didn’t walk anyone and struck out seven.

KFEQ Morning Sports

Northwest Missouri State University's esports program is set to host two camps for students this summer interested in pursuing the sport in college. 

The first session is a day camp scheduled for July 14 through July 18. at the J.W. Jones Student Union on the third floor in the esports lab. The second session is an overnight boot camp from July 23 through July 25. Session two will take place in the exact location as session one.

Jones Student Union on the third floor in the esports lab. The second session is an overnight boot camp from July 23 through July 25. NWMSU ESports to host summer camps to attract new prospects

The Kansas City Royals are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, winning 15 of their last 17 games, shutting out the White Sox on Thursday afternoon for their third series sweep of the season 10-0 at Kauffman Stadium, and pushing their current win streak to six games.&nbsp;

It started off simple for Kansas City, with a single run in the first inning, Salvador Perez doubling to drive in Vinnie Pasquantino who singled, and another single run in the third again driven in by Perez this time on a single scoring Bobby Witt Jr who singled and stole second base.&nbsp; Behind a strong performance from starting pitcher Kris Bubic, the Royals began running away with the game in the fifth inning.&nbsp;

Two runs scored in the fifth when Maikel Garcia hit his first triple of the season, a deep fly ball to center field that bounced off the wall and away from Louis Robert Jr, scoring Jonathan India and Witt Jr.&nbsp; Earlier in the inning, Witt Jr stole his second base of the game, and his 13th of the season to put himself into scoring position.&nbsp;

Another two spot was added to the scoreboard in the sixth inning by Kansas City.&nbsp; Drew Waters singled, and stole second base for his third stolen base of the season, and later scored on a double by India.&nbsp; Witt Jr followed India's double up with one of his own to score India to put the Royals up 6-0 at the end of six innings.&nbsp;

The Royals pulled Bubic from the mound in the eighth.&nbsp; Bubic, who improved to 4-2 with the win, pitched seven shutout innings giving up six hits and striking out seven, while walking just one batter, marking the 19th quality start of the season from a Royals starting pitcher, which leads the MLB.&nbsp;

Kansas City continued to pour it on in the bottom of the eighth inning with the final four runs.&nbsp; Waters and Freddy Fermin hit back to back singles before a single from India brought Waters home to score.&nbsp; A double by Witt Jr drove in Fermin, and Cavan Biggio came on to pinch run for Witt Jr who had a four hit day.&nbsp; Vinnie Pasquantino singled for the fifth consecutive hit of the inning to score India.&nbsp; Perez recorded the first out of the inning, but still drove in Biggio with a sacrifice fly for the final run.&nbsp;

Multiple Royals contributed at the plate on the day, led by Witt Jr who was 4-5 with two doubles, two stolen bases, and&nbsp; two RBI's.&nbsp; India (2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI), Pasquantino (2-5, 1 RBI), Perez (2-4, 1 2B, 3 RBI), Garcia (2-5, 1 3B, 2 RBI) also came up big in the win.&nbsp;

Kansas City will stay home tomorrow to welcome in Boston, a team whose .500 over their last 10 games.&nbsp; Michael Lorenzen will start for the Royals, hoping to bounce back from his last start where he gave up four home runs, taking on&nbsp;Hunter Dobbins for the Red Sox.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame coverage will begin at 6 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

Royals shutout White Sox for third series sweep, sixth win in a row

The Kansas City Royals got another masterful performance from their starting pitcher and needed just one clutch hit to extend their win streak to five games, defeating the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium

The Royals managed hits off of White Sox starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon through the first four innings, but were unable to push runners in scoring position across.&nbsp; But in the fifth inning, after&nbsp;Luke Maile singled to lead off the inning, Bobby Witt Jr delivered the lone hit Kansas City needed in the game, a two run home run to left center field putting the Royals up 2-0.&nbsp;

Kansas City starter Michael Wacha was brilliant on the mound in containing the White Sox, allowing just three hits and only walking one batter across seven shutout innings, while striking out five. In the eighth inning, Lucas Erceg struck out the side in order before Carlos&nbsp;Estévez came to the mound in the ninth for the save.&nbsp;

Against&nbsp;Estévez Chicago started to put together a rally, Miguel Vargas leading off the inning with a double and then scoring on a single by Luis Robert Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;Matt Thaiss singled to push Robert to second base before&nbsp;Estévez finally recorded the first out, striking out Andrew Vaughn.&nbsp; Brooks Baldwin grounded into a force out, Michael A Taylor who pinch ran for Thaiss being thrown out at second, then with the tying run 90 feet away at third base,&nbsp;Estévez struck out Josh Rojas to end the game.&nbsp;

Wacha earned the win, improving to 2-4 on the season, while&nbsp;Estévez notched his 11th save.&nbsp; Maikel Garcia (2-3) and Vinnie Pasquantino (2-4) led the way hitting while Witt Jr was 1-4 with the two run home run. 4

Royals extend win streak to five behind Bobby Witt Jr home run

The St. Louis Cardinals pulled out the brooms for a series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, shutting out their NL Central foes 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium, extending their win streak to five straight games.&nbsp;

After Victor Scott II walked in the third inning, he sped around the bases to score on a single by Lars Nootbaar, who advanced to second base as Pirates right fielder Bryan Reynolds attempted to throw Scott out at home.&nbsp; In the very next at bat Masyn Winn doubled, his fifth double of the season, to drive in Nootbaar for the 2-0 lead at the end of three innings.&nbsp;

Scott singled in the fifth inning and scored his second run of the game as Winn hit his second double of the game to extend the lead.&nbsp; In the eighth inning, the Cardinals added their final two runs, Jordan Walker singling to drive in Luken Baker and Brendan Donovan.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Kansas City Royals battled back on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against the Chicago White Sox, as Bobby Witt Jr delivered a walk off hit in the ninth to push the win streak to four as Kansas City won 4-3.&nbsp;

The White Sox scored first in the fourth inning on a Brooks Baldwin single, driving in&nbsp;Matt Thaiss, before extending their lead in the sixth inning as Andrew Vaughn reached first base on a fielders choice, allowing Thaiss to score again.&nbsp; The Royals cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth though on a leadoff home run by Kyle Isbel, but managed just that run to cut it to 2-1.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Chicago added one more run of insurance in the top of the eighth inning, Josh Rojas singling to score Jacob Amaya, but Kansas City again battled to keep the deficit to one run as Salvador Perez doubled in the bottom half of the inning, driving in Vinnie Pasquantino who was walked by White Sox reliever&nbsp;Steven Wilson

Cam Booser was called on in the bottom of the ninth inning for his first save opportunity by Chicago and immediately ran into trouble.&nbsp; Mark Cahna walked, Drew Waters reached base on a fielding error by the second baseman, and Freddy Fermin singled to load the bases before Booser ever recorded an out. Booser did get Isbel to pop out into the infield fly rule, for the first out following Fermin's single.&nbsp;

But after Isbel popped out, it was over as Jonathan India singled home Cahna, leaving the bases loaded, and bringing star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr to the plate who put the ball out into center field for the walk off hit, bringing Waters home to score.&nbsp;

Taylor Clarke earned the win in relief, moving to 1-0 on the season, pitching 1.1 clean innings.&nbsp; In a no decision, Seth Lugo pitched 6.2 innings giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits while walking three and also striking out three.&nbsp; Pasquantino (2-3) and Fermin (2-4) led the way hitting at the plate.&nbsp;

The Benton High School football program is looking for a new head coach after Corey Bertini announced he will step down.

Bertini announced he was stepping down as the head football coach this week and said it wasn't an easy decision to leave the program. Bertini took over the program in 2023 after serving as an assistant coach on the southside. The Cardinals went 4-16 in his two seasons as the head coach.

He played college football at Missouri Western.&nbsp; Bertini stepped down to take a job in the Kansas City area.

The St. Louis Cardinals came from behind with a big sixth inning for their third straight victory, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 on Monday night at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;

After Pittsburgh took an early lead in the first inning on Bryan Reynolds two run home run, the Cardinals tied the game up in the bottom of the third inning.&nbsp; Leading off the third, Jose Barrero hit his first home run of the season for St. Louis, and after Lars Nootbaar flew out, Alec Burleson hit the second home run of the inning and his second home run of the season to knot the game at 2-2.&nbsp;

The Pirates took the lead back in the fourth inning.&nbsp; Joey Bart led the inning off with a walk and Emmanuel Valdez followed that with a single.&nbsp; Former Royal Adam Frazier singled later in the inning to drive Bart in for the go ahead run.&nbsp; After Tommy Pham walked to load the bases, Jared Triolo grounded into a double play to end the inning.&nbsp;

In the sixth inning, it was another home run that gave the Cardinals their first lead of the game, this time off the bat of Willson Contreras, a two run home run scoring Nolan Arenado who walked in the at bat prior.&nbsp; Back to back to back singles by Nolan Gorman,&nbsp;Pedro Pagés,&nbsp;Victor Scott II loaded the bases before Barerro drove in the final two runs with a ground rule double.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gordon Graceffo got the win in relief, moving to 2-0 on the season, pitching one clean inning.&nbsp; Miles Mikolas in a no decision pitched five innings giving up three runs on four hits, striking out one and walking three.&nbsp; Contreras (2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI),&nbsp;&nbsp;Pagés (2-3), and Barrero (2-4, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI) led the way at the plate.&nbsp;

St. Louis and Pittsburgh continue their series tomorrow at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;Matthew Liberatore starts for the Cardinals against Paul Skenes for the Pirates.&nbsp; The Cardinals have had some good luck against Skenes and will hope to see it continue.&nbsp; In four career starts against St. Louis, Skenes is&nbsp;0-3 with a 2.70 ERA.

First pitch will be at 6:45pm with pregame coverage being joined at 6:35 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).&nbsp;

Cardinals power over Pirates 6-3 for third straight win

Cole Ragans didn't seem to miss a beat returning to the mound in his first start back from a groin injury, shutting out the Chicago White Sox over five innings and striking out 11 as the Kansas City Royals won 3-0 at Kauffman Stadium on Monday night.&nbsp;

The Royals first scored in the fourth inning thanks to some skillful base running by Bobby Witt Jr following his leadoff single.&nbsp; Witt Jr stole second base as Vinnie Pasquantino struck out swinging, then took third base on a wild pitch, before scoring on a single by Maikel Garcia.&nbsp; In the fifth inning, it was Witt Jr driving in the run with a double, bringing home Kyle Isbel who singled earlier in the inning.&nbsp;

In the eighth inning, Kansas City scored their final run.&nbsp; Garcia walked and stole second base before advancing to third base on a fly out by Michael Massey.&nbsp; Drew Waters doubled with two out to drive in Garcia,&nbsp; but was stranded in scoring position as Freddy Fermin popped out to the shortstop to end the inning.&nbsp;

Ragans improved to 2-1 with the win.&nbsp; Carlos&nbsp;Estévez earned his 10th save of the season giving up just one hit in the ninth inning. Jonathan India (2-4) and Witt Jr (2-3, 1 RBI) led the way at the plate for the Royals in the win.&nbsp;

Kansas City and Chicago continue their four game series tomorrow.&nbsp; Seth Lugo takes the mound for the Royals against&nbsp;Sean Burke for the White Sox.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame coverage begins at 6 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

Royals win third straight, shutout White Sox in Ragans return

Now available at St. Joseph's Rally House location you can purchase a jersey for St. Joseph's Noah Cameron to wear on your next trip to Kauffman Stadium.  

After Cameron made his major league debut last Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, Rally House store manager Taylor Faucett says demand for the jersey's has been high 

"We've had people calling everyday asking for jerseys, asking for T-Shirts, anything that we can get in," Faucett tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post.  "I would say we've had upwards of about 25 calls each day asking when they're coming in, what we're going to do with them, so people are excited, and people are ready to see this next adventure for the Royals and a St. Joe connection." 

Faucett, who also lives in the area, says it's been exciting to be able to have merchandise in the store for someone from right here in St. Joseph 

"It's been so cool to see all of his friends and family coming in ready to support him," Faucett says.  "It's been exciting to see, just on a personal level, the connections that I have with him and being able to listen to them and bring those connections into the store and just see this just grow and blossom, and it's such a great thing." 

Faucett says she has not seen this much demand for a particular jersey since the store began selling Nick Bolton jersey's after the Chiefs drafted the Missouri linebacker in 2021. 

"But other than that, this is the first time I've been able to see this much of a demand and this excitement at a local level bringing something in, so being able to see that just from the customers and the excitement and everything has been really cool," Faucett explains.  "And for us to react as fast as we did as a company, because he is somebody that is local and we do want to support both local and him on a national level, has just been absolutely exciting for us to see." 

Currently in store there are a limited number of white jerseys with blue lettering available in about 10 different sizes, but Faucett says the powder blue jerseys can also be ordered online when visiting the store.  

Faucett adds even if the store runs out of jersey's you can come in and order them.  She also says at this time there are only jersey's available but hopes to add more options in the future as Cameron's career progresses.

After victory earlier in the day, the St. Louis Cardinals saw some heroics from Victor Scott II on both sides of the ball as they swept a doubleheader over the New York Mets, winning the nightcap 5-4 at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;

The Cardinals took the lead first in the nightcap in the second inning, Nolan Arenado singling to lead off the inning and after Willson Contreras lineout out to left field, Alec Burleson put the Redbirds on the board with a two run home run to right center field, his first home run of the season.&nbsp;

The Mets answered by taking the lead in the top of the third inning, putting up four runs against starting pitcher Andre Pallante.&nbsp; Tyrone Taylor and Fransisco Lindor hit back to back singles, but Lindor would be thrown out at second on a groundout by Juan Soto.&nbsp; Pete Alonso's single scored Taylor, and then Mark Vientos walked to load the bases.&nbsp; With the bases loaded, Starling Marte singled to drive in Soto and Alonso and Fransisco Alvarez followed that with a single to score Vientos&nbsp;

In the bottom of the third, St. Louis tied the game up with another two run inning.&nbsp; Lars Nootbaar and Masyn Winn getting walked back to back and both advancing on a groundout by Brendan Donovan.&nbsp; Nolan Arenado's single drove in Nootbaar and Willson Contreras followed that up with a single and his fourth RBI of the doubleheader scoring Winn to tie the game up at 4-4.&nbsp;

In the top of the fourth inning, Scott II would show off his defense in center field with runners on first and second as Soto hit a sharp, deep fly ball in his direction.&nbsp; Scott II ranged back to the wall and reached up to rob Soto of the three run home run for the first out of the inning.&nbsp; In the bottom of the sixth, it was Scott's bat giving the Cardinals the lead with an RBI double, driving in&nbsp;Yohel Pozo.

Michael McGreevy earned the win in his 2025 debut for St. Lous after being recalled from Triple A Memphis on Saturday, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up no runs and one hit, striking out five, walking one.&nbsp; Arenado (2-4, 1 RBI) and Burleson (2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI) led the way at the plate in the win.&nbsp;

St. Louis will stay home to host Pittsburgh starting tomorrow.&nbsp; Miles Mikolas will open the series for the Cardinals against&nbsp;Carmen Mlodzinski for the Pirates.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:45pm, pregame coverage will be joined at 6:35 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).&nbsp;

Cardinals sweep doubleheader with 5-4 win over Mets

The St. Louis Cardinals have had tough luck against the New York Mets this season, but in the opener of a double header on Sunday, after rain postponed Saturday's matchup, the Redbirds got one on the Mets, winning 6-5 at Busch Stadium.&nbsp;

St. Louis and New York did trade blows though before the Cardinals managed to pull away, the Mets taking the first lead of the game in the opening inning with back to back doubles by Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo.&nbsp; In the second inning, the St. Louis tied the game up when Willson Contreras hit a solo home run to right center field, his fourth home run of the season.&nbsp;

In the third inning, Juan Soto led off with a single for New York and was followed up with a double by Alonso.&nbsp; Soto later scored in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jesse Winker.&nbsp; The Cardinals again tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly of their own, Nolan Gorman flying out and driving in Brendan Donovan.&nbsp;

In the fourth inning, St. Louis finally managed to pull away, putting up a four run inning.&nbsp; Victor Scott II singled, Jose Barrero was hit by a pitch, and Alec Burleson walked to load the bases before Donovan singled to drive in Scott and Barrero.&nbsp; After Nolan Arenado waked, to reload the bases, Contreras came through again for the Cardinals with a single into right field, scoring Burleson and Donovan.

The Mets started to chip back in the sixth inning, narrowing the lead to three runs as Fransisco Lindor grounded into a forceout as Jeff McNeil scored.&nbsp; The final two runs came in the eighth inning, again thanks to Lindor this time on a single that drove in McNeil and&nbsp;Luisangel Acuña.&nbsp; New York did threaten in the ninth, getting Starling Marte to third base against Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, but&nbsp;Acuña popped out to end the inning.&nbsp;

Erick Fedde earned the win, going to 2-3 on the season, pitching five innings and giving up three runs on six hits, striking out four and walking five.&nbsp; Contreras led the way hitting going 3-4 with three RBI's and one home run at the plate.&nbsp;

Game two of the doubleheader begins with first pitch at 5:15pm, pregame coverage will begin at 5:05 on KY 102 (102.5FM).&nbsp; Andre Pallente will start for the Cardinals against&nbsp;Tylor Megill for the Mets.&nbsp;

Cardinals finally solve Mets in doubleheader opener winning 6-5

The Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles combined for 11 home runs in a slugfest at Camden Yards where the Royals came out on top 11-6 in the series finale.&nbsp;

Despite hitting three home runs in the win on Saturday, the Royals entered Sunday's finale still at the bottom of the league in home runs with 18.&nbsp; Kansas City slugged seven of the 11 home runs in the win.&nbsp; The seven home runs from Kansas City marked a new single game franchise record. .&nbsp;

Baltimore and Kansas City traded blows early before the Royals pulled away.&nbsp; Garcia's first home run of the game gave Kansas City their first lead of the game in the second inning.&nbsp; But in the bottom half, Holliday answered with his first home run of the game to tie it up.&nbsp; The Orioles then took the lead in the third inning, Adley Rutschman doubling to drive in Gunnar Henderson who starter Michael Lorenzen had walked.&nbsp;

The Royals though continued to trade punches with Baltimore, taking the lead back in the fourth inning.&nbsp; Salvador Perez singled and Hunter Renfroe doubled, setting up Drew Waters to come through with a single into left field, scoring both Perez and Renfroe for the 3-2 lead.&nbsp; 

In the bottom half of the inning, Holliday hit his second home run of the game, once again tying it up.&nbsp; It was the first multi home run game of Holliday's young career.&nbsp; Then, in the fifth inning, Jonathan India slugged the fourth home run of the game to give Kansas City the lead back once again, India's first home run as a Royal.&nbsp;

In the bottom of the fifth, the slugfest continued, as Cedric Mullins and Ryan O'Hearn both hit solo home runs to again give Baltimore the lead back.&nbsp; But the Royals tied the game up again in the sixth inning, Garcia hitting his second home run of the game, for the first multi home run game of his career.&nbsp;

Kansas City took the lead for good in the seventh inning, keeping the home run derby going, with back to back homes by Bobby Witt Jr and Vinnie Pasquantino.&nbsp; In the eighth inning, recently called up catcher Luke Maile hit his first home run as a Royal to extend the lead, before Witt Jr added another RBI with a double driving in India.

The Orioles added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ryan Mountcastle driving in O'Hearn who doubled.&nbsp; In the ninth inning, Kansas City added more insurance, with another home run, the first of the day that was not a solo shot as Michael Massey hit a two run home run, driving in Cavan Biggio, who pinch ran for Perez.&nbsp;

Angel Zerpa earned the win in relief, pitching 1.2 innings giving up one run on three hits.&nbsp; In a no decision, starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen pitched 4.2 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one.&nbsp; Garcia (3-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI), Pasquantino (3-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI), Witt Jr. (2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBIs), and Waters (2-5, 2 RBIs) led the way at the plate in the win.&nbsp;

Kansas City returns to the comforts of Kauffman Stadium tomorrow, beginning a four game series against the Chicago White Sox.&nbsp; Cole Ragans is scheduled to start for the Royals against&nbsp;Shane Smith for the White Sox.&nbsp; First pitch is at 6:40pm, pregame coverage begins at 6pm on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).&nbsp;

Royals slug seven home runs in Baltimore home run derby winning 11-6

The Kansas City Royals bounced back from a shutout loss in Friday's series opener against the series opener, smashing three home runs on way to a 4-0 shutout win on Saturday night at&nbsp;Camden Yards.

After the game got started on time and got through the first inning, the teams had to wait just under an hour to resume play as rain rolled into the area in Baltimore.&nbsp; Both Orioles starter&nbsp;Tomoyuki Sugano and Royals starter Kris Bubic, stayed in the game and threw in the bullpen while the field was prepared.

The Royals broke onto the scoreboard in the fourth inning as Jonathan India led off the inning with a double, and later in the inning Maikel Garcia singled to score India.&nbsp; In the fifth, Cavan Biggio extended the lead with the first of the three home runs, and his first of the season, going to right center field.&nbsp;

Bubic made it through five innings following the rain delay before giving way to the bullpen, giving up four hits and striking out three while walking one.&nbsp; Daniel Lynch pitched the sixth and seventh innings, continuing to slow the Orioles lineup, allowing just one hit and walking one, also striking out one batter.&nbsp;

In the eighth inning, Kyle Isbel needed to see just one pitch from reliever&nbsp;Seranthony Domínguez before adding to the lead with his second home run of the season.&nbsp; With two outs, Vinnie Pasquantino blasted his team leading fifth home run in the same inning.&nbsp; The Royals did threaten to add more runs, after Garcia and Michael Massey hit back to back singles, but Hunter Renfroe grounded out to end the inning.&nbsp;

Lucas Erceg allowed one hit in the bottom of the eighth, but struck out two batters, before John Schreiber closed out game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, to close out the fourth shutout victory for Kansas City this season.&nbsp;With the win, Bubic improves to 3-2 on the season.&nbsp; Garcia led the way hitting in the win going 3-3 at the plate with one RBI and one walk.&nbsp;

Kansas City and Baltimore wrap up their series tomorrow.&nbsp; Michael Lorenzen will pitch the finale for the Royals against Kyle Gibson for the Orioles.&nbsp; First pitch is at 12:35pm, pregame beginning at noon on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

Royals bats explode for three home runs in 4-0 shutout of Orioles

For a second season in a row in St. Louis, the Cardinals and Mets had a game wiped out by rain. And for a second time this week, the Cardinals are preparing to play a doubleheader because of inclement weather.

Torrential rains throughout the day on Saturday forced the Mets and Cardinals into a split doubleheader on Sunday at Busch Stadium. Game 1 will start at 12:15 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 12:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM), while Game 2 is scheduled to begin at 5:15, pregame coverage starting at 5:05.

The Cardinals will pitch right-hander Erick Fedde in Game 1 and right-hander Andre Pallante in Game 2. The Mets will send Saturday’s scheduled starter, Tylor Megill, to the mound in Game 2, while rookie Blade Tidwell gets the ball in the opener.

The Cardinals, who have dropped all five games this season against the Mets, had their game in Cincinnati rained out on Tuesday. That forced them into playing a doubleheader on Wednesday and they swept both games from the rival Reds. The Cards also played two games in Boston on April 6 because of a rainout a day earlier and lost both games of the doubleheader to the Red Sox.

St. Louis decided against starting right-hander Michael McGreevy, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis today. Brought to St. Louis to offer “protection” in case a game goes sideways early in the day and multiple innings were needed from a reliever, McGreevy will work out of the bullpen on Sunday.

McGreevy, the Cardinals No. 10-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, made his MLB debut in 2024 and went 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA over four big league appearances (three starts). He pitched well enough in Spring Training to make the big league Opening Day roster, but he was instead sent to Triple-A because of the logjam of starters the Cardinals have with Sonny Gray, Matthew Liberatore, Miles Mikolas, Steven Matz, Fedde and Pallante.

Cardinals-Mets postponed Saturday; split doubleheader set for Sunday

The St. Louis Cardinals have had some bad luck this season when it comes to playing the New York Mets, and it continued Friday night in the series opener at Busch Stadium, as the Redbirds fell 9-3.&nbsp;

In a series last month in New York that ran April 17th through the 20th, St. Louis had one of their worst offensive stretches of the season,&nbsp;In the four-game series against the Mets, the Cardinals' bats hit a big snag, going 22-for-129 (.171) with 43 strikeouts. Even worse, St. Louis went 4-for-27 (.148) with runners in scoring position during the four-game set.

The Cardinals didn't fare much better in the opener, batting going 9 for 34 (.265) at the plate, striking out five times, they did battle early though with the Mets and took the first lead of the game in the opening inning.&nbsp; Lars Nootbaar doubled, and stole third base, and was driven in by Masyn Winn with a single.&nbsp; After Winn's single though, Brendan Donovan flied out, Winn was caught stealing, and Nolan Arenado popped out to end the first.&nbsp;

The lead went back and forth through the first three innings, as New York took their first lead of the game in the second inning, Cardinals starter Sonny Gray loading the bases to start the inning walking Brandon Nimmo and giving up back to back singles to Jesse Winker and Mark Vientos.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeff McNeil grounded into a force out, Vientos being thrown out at second, but was safe himself at first as Nimmo scored.&nbsp; In the next at bat McNeil found himself thrown out at second base as Fransisco Alvarez grounded into a force out, and reached first safely, Winker coming across home for the 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

St. Louis scored their final runs of the game in the third inning as they took the lead back for the final time.&nbsp; Victor Scott II singled opening the inning, and moved to second base on a groundout by Nootbaar.&nbsp; Moving to steal third base, a throwing error by Alvarez allowed Scott to come home to score and tie up the game. Winn singled, and then went first to third on a single in the next at bat by Donovan, before coming scoring the go ahead run thanks to a single by Willson Contreras.&nbsp;

The four run fifth inning by the Mets helped put the game away for good.&nbsp; Juan Soto doubled and scored on a two run home run by Pete Alonso.&nbsp; Nimmo and Winker hit back to back singles, Nimmo scoring on a forceout groundout by Vientos where Winker was thrown out at second.&nbsp; Vientos later scored on a single from Alvarez.&nbsp; Nimmo homered and Tyrone Taylor scored after doubling in the seventh inning to add insurance runs for New York.&nbsp; Taylor also scored on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.&nbsp;

Sonny Gray took the loss, falling to 3-1, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up six runs, only four earned, on nine hits, striking out six and walking three.&nbsp; Winn led the Cardinals at the plate going 3-4 with one RBI.

St. Louis will hope to turn their luck around tomorrow as the series against New York continues.&nbsp; Erick Fedde starts for the Cardinals against&nbsp;Tylor Megill for the Mets.&nbsp; First pitch is at 1:15pm, pregame coverage will be joined at 1:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).
