The Kansas City Chiefs avenged their only loss in the last 12 months with a 35-31 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.&nbsp; &nbsp;Mahomes passed for 348 yards and led two go-ahead scoring drives in the frantic fourth quarter for the defending Super Bowl champions, who split their season series with Las Vegas in dramatic fashion.&nbsp;

Taking over at the Kansas City 25-yard line with less than two minutes remaining, Mahomes led the Chiefs down the field in just one minute and 15 seconds as he hit tight end Travis Kelce for a 22-yard touchdown to re-take the lead.&nbsp; It completed a wild final quarter that served as a microcosm of a back-and-forth shootout between these two classic division rivals.

Kansas City moved to 30-3 in its last 33 matchups against divisional opponents with the victory as Head Coach Andy Reid tallied his 19th win in 22 career games immediately following the bye week.

Las Vegas was on the board first as tailback Josh Jacobs plunged ahead for a 2-yard score. It punctuated a strong opening drive for the Raiders that included four first downs and two big passing plays of more than 20 yards.

The Chiefs then answered with a long scoring drive of their own, as Mahomes found wide receiver Tyreek Hill for a 3-yard touchdown to complete a 14-play, 85-yard series. It marked Hill's fifth catch of the drive – which included a fourth-down grab that kept the possession alive – to help the Chiefs tie things up.

The shootout would continue through the rest of the game going back and forth as the Chiefs defense struggled to slow down the Las Vegas offense.&nbsp; The Raiders did lead at halftime by a score of 17-14.

The Raiders then kept the shootout going in the second half, with the Chiefs leading 21-17 at the end of the third quarter. but the Raiders would strike first in the fourth quarter pulling back in front when Carr found tight end Darren Waller for a 3-yard touchdown to tally yet another lead change.

The Chiefs would pull back in front two drives later with Le'Veon Bell's score, but the Raiders would take the lead again finding Jason Witten to put Las Vegas back on top.&nbsp; Patrick Mahomes would do the rest though with his game-winning drive.

Mahomes was able to find Travis Kelce for a team-high 127 yards on eight grabs including the game winning score.&nbsp; Tyreek Hill was also productive throughout the contest, matching a career-high with 11 catches for 102 yards.

The Chiefs are now 9-1 on the season and will return to action next Sunday with a highly anticipated bout against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady.

Chiefs have yet another back and forth battle with Raiders; Get win 35-31

K-State&nbsp; marched down the field on its opening drive of the game but couldn't convert a fourth-and-goal against Iowa State, setting the tone as the Cyclones rolled to a 45-0 victory on Saturday

That set the tone for an afternoon when the Cyclones would limit K-State to 149 yards of total offense.&nbsp; Deuce Vaughn collected 94 yards serving as K-State's primary kick returner. He was involved in the backfield and as a receiver against Iowa State, but couldn't replicate his success on special teams.

K-State arrived in Ames without several playmakers on both sides of the football, including a depleted linebacking core that struggled to slow down the Cyclones.&nbsp; Cody Fletcher led K-State with nine tackles, including seven solo efforts against Iowa State.

Will Howard got the start at quarterback for K-State, going 3-for-9 for 32 passing yards.&nbsp; Howard would give way to Nick Ast at quarterback in the second half, as the Cimarron native went 6-for-10 for 44 yards in his first extended action of the season.

Kansas State back in action after bye week; Fall to Iowa State 45-0

Missouri football improved to 3-3 in their slate of SEC games as they defeated South Carolina 17-10 on Saturday night to claim the Mayor's Cup Trophy for the second consecutive season. Despite being down to a limited roster numbers due to COVID issues and injuries, Mizzou opened a 17-0 lead by the intermission and never looked back to even its record and earn first-year head coach Eliah Drinkwitz his third win at Mizzou.

The win came despite a 20-day layoff between games as well, the longest such break between regular season games for Mizzou since 2001 when the 9/11 attacks paused the college football season. 

Senior RB Larry Rountree III became the school's all-time leading rusher at the RB position, passing Zack Abron to move into second place with his 3,283 career rushing yards. Only legendary QB Brad Smith ranks ahead of Rountree with 4,289 in his career.

Mizzou's defense was the story Saturday, limiting SC to just 283 yards on 11 drives, as junior All-SEC LB Nick Bolton led the way with a team-high 14 tackles, two of which went for a loss, in another performance that showcased his All-America caliber skillset.

Mizzou will return home Saturday November 28th for a matchup with SEC West Division rival Arkansas at 11 a.m. on SEC Network

Mayor's Cup stays with Missouri; Defeats South Carolina 17-10

The Missouri Western women's season-opening Oklahoma road trip concluded with an 82-74 loss at Northeastern State on Saturday.

The Lady Griffons, who are now 1-1, trailed most of the way in a close contest, but couldn't keep the RiverHawks off of the free throw line.  NSU made 26-28 attempts from the charity stripe, which was the ultimate decider of the game.

Freshman Jordan Cunningham led the Griffons in scoring with 19 points (7-16 FG), 5 rebounds and 4 assists.  Junior Asia McCoy added 14 points and 6 rebounds, while freshman point guard Camille Evans added 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. 

Missouri Western's men were off on Saturday, following the postponement of their game.&nbsp; The Griffons will get their chance to play Northeastern State in Tahlequah on December 8th at 3pm

Next up for Missouri Western will be a return home againstLincoln on December 3rd.  Tip-time for the women is scheduled for 5:30 PM followed by the men's game at 7:30 PM.

ST. JOSEPH, MO – The Missouri Western football game scheduled for this Saturday, November 21st at the University of Nebraska-Kearney has been canceled due to COVID-19. The Griffons do not have enough available student-athletes at one position group that would allow the game to be played safely.

The contest between the Griffons and Lopers was set to be the final game of a modified fall football season. Griffon Football will now break until 2021 with the University's fall academic semester concluding next week. Missouri Western, Nebraska-Kearney and Pittsburg State partnered to form an alliance that allowed the three Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association members to play a partial 2020 schedule that began in late October.

Missouri Western football's amount of positive tests have remained incredibly low all season, with just three positive tests among active student-athletes this week and an overall average of approximately 2% since mandatory weekly testing began in early October.

"We chose to cancel Saturday's game simply for safety," said MWSU vice president for intercollegiate athletics Dr. Josh Looney. "This is a result of prior injuries combined with the three positive student-athlete tests along with the ripple-effect of contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within a position group. The health and safety of our student-athletes will always be prioritized as we navigate protocols associated with this pandemic."

Griffon Football is expected to announce its plans for modified spring 2021 competition in the coming weeks, including an additional home appearance at Spratt Stadium.

The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat women got their basketball season started on Thursday in Tahlequah, OK against Northeastern State, falling to the Lady Riverhawks 64-56.

The Bearcats did lead at halftime, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead, then spending the rest of the half going back and forth, ultimately leading at halftime 27-26, but the second half was all Riverhawks.

In her debut game for the Bearcat ladies it was Molly Hartnett from Overland Park that led the way scoring 22 points, shooting a very efficient 10 of 16 from the field.&nbsp; Right behind Hatnett was senior Kylie Coleman with 17 points.

Northwest's men were unable to play their matchup with the Riverhawks after positive coronavirus cases within the Northeastern State men's program, they will play their rescheduled matchup on December 31st in Tahlequah.

Next up for the Bearcats both the men and women will travel to Claremore, OK to take on Rogers State, both men and women lost to Missouri Western, the women will tipoff at 1:30 pm on Saturday, with the men following with a tipoff at 3:30pm

Second year head coach Candi Whitaker led her team to an 83-81 win to start off the evening for the Griffons.&nbsp; It was a pair of freshman that paced the lady Griffon squad in Mary Fultz and Camille Evans who paced the team with 18 points each.

Evans was ultimately the one that sealed the victory for the Lady Griffons, laying the ball up and in with five seconds left on the clock, giving the Griffons the lead in what was a comeback effort for the team.&nbsp; It wasn't an easy win as the Griffons trailed by 18 points at halftime.

It was a debut night for much Whitaker's team as the Lady Griffons debuted ten new faces, including Fultz and Evans.

For the Griffon men it was a back and forth effort with Rogers State in the debut game of new men's head coach Will Martin, who took over for Sundance Wicks after his departure in the offseason.

The Griffons saw themselves tied at halftime at 25 a piece, then both teams went on to score 26 in the second half to force overtime, and that's where Missouri Western took off putting up 17 to win the game 68-55.

Much like last season it was junior Tyrell Carroll who led the team with 17 points, Carroll last season averaged 17.7 points per game, while junior Q Mays added 13 points in the game.

The Griffon women will now get set to continue their road trip heading to Tahlequah, OK to take on Northeastern State, who are coming off a win over Northwest Missouri State University, with a 1 pm tipoff time

Meanwhile the men will prepare for their next matchup on December 3rd against Lincoln University, back at the MWSU Fieldhouse, after their matchup with Northeastern State was postponed earlier this week until December 8th

Reid, entering his 22nd season as an NFL head coach, owns a career regular season record of 215-129-1 (.625). He's won 230 total games including the playoffs, the second-most victories among active NFL head coaches (Bill Belichick – 308), and is fifth all-time in wins among head coaches in NFL history. Reid added Super Bowl Champion to his resume in 2019 after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV.

Reid was hired as the club's 13th head coach in franchise history on January 7, 2013. He joined the Chiefs after 14 seasons as Head Coach/Executive Vice President of Football Operations of the Philadelphia Eagles where he compiled a 130-93-1 (.583) regular season record. In his career, he has earned 10 division titles, five NFC Championship appearances, two AFC Championship appearances and two Super Bowl appearances. Reid's teams have made the playoffs 15 times (15-14 record).

Chiefs sign head coach Andy Reid; GM Brett Veach to contract extensions

BELLE PLAINE, Kan. (AP) — A small community college in northeast Kansas has settled a lawsuit accusing it of directing coaches to recruit more white athletes and targeting Black prospective students with excessive scrutiny such background checks before offering scholarships. 

A brief stipulation of dismissal was filed Monday by the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas. The ACLU had alleged in the lawsuit that Highland Community College instituted a plan to reduce the number of black students. 

The college has said its recruiting is not determined by students’ race or ethnicity and denied it ever instructed coaches to exclude out-of-state athletes from recruitment.

The ACLU alleges in a federal lawsuit filed Thursday that Highland Community College instituted a plan six months ago to reduce the number of black students. It contends the college’s strategy included expelling black students for minor or bogus infractions and singling them out for dorm room and vehicle searches, discriminatory surveillance and harassment.

Filed on behalf of four former and current students, the lawsuit names Eric Ingmire, vice president for student services, and Bryan Dorrel, the college’s athletic director, as defendants. They did not immediately respond to email messages seeking comment.

Highland Community College has more than 3,200 students, 87% of whom are white. During the 2019 season, 104 of the 111 football players were black. The 2020 football recruiting class includes “a significantly lower number” of black athletes, the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit alleges Dorrel told coaches to recruit “more local kids” and “less Southern kids.”

Kansas college settles lawsuit over recruitment of athletes

 Alex Smith took another big step in his personal comeback. His team, on the other hand, fell just short again after another late rally. Smith’s first start since November 2018 nearly finished in storybook fashion when he threw for 390 yards and led Washington back from a 21-point third-quarter deficit. 

But the Detroit Lions ultimately prevailed 30-27. Smith appeared twice in relief earlier this season, an inspiring return to the field after he endured a broken leg, 17 surgeries and a life-threatening infection. He nearly led a big comeback last weekend, but Washington lost that game 23-20 to the New York Giants.

With head coach Ron Rivera benching Dwayne Haskins and Kyle Allen suffering a season ending ankle injury, it was Alex Smith that got the call to start for Washington against Detroit.

While all of Washington's offensive touchdowns came on the ground, two from running back Antonio Gibson and one from backup running back J.D. McKissic, Smith showed he could still be mobile in the pocket and throw the ball downfield.

With under a week left until the start of the MIAA basketball season, both Northwest Missouri State University and Missouri Western State University have had to make some changes to their schedule against a common opponent

In the opening week of games both Northwest and Missouri Western were set to play in Tahlequah, OK, Northwest on November 19th and Missouri Western on November 21st

The Northeastern State RiverHawks's men's basketball program is enduring positive COVID-19 cases causing the delay in the men's game's.

&nbsp; The Northwest Missouri State University's men's basketball season opener at Northeastern State University has been postponed until Dec. 31 at 1 p.m.

The Missouri Western men's basketball game at Northeastern State&nbsp; has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 8th at 3:00 p.m in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While the men's program has had struggles with positive tests, the women are still set to play, but tipoff times have been moved up slightly.

The Northwest women will play their season opener in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Nov. 19. The tip time has been adjusted to 6 p.m. While the&nbsp; Missouri Western women's basketball game will go on as scheduled on November 21st with a new start time of 1:00 pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Missouri Western is set to open up their season in Claremore, OK against Rogers State on Thursday November 19th with the women tipping off at&nbsp; 5:30 pm and the men tipping off at 7:30

Northwest and Missouri Western suffer basketball schedule changes

Braggin' Rights is back. Both Mizzou and Illinois have worked step-by-step in coordination to ensure the historic rivalry matchup continues in 2020 in light of challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic preventing the game from occurring in St. Louis.

The game is typically played in St. Louis at Scottrade Center, a neutral site nearly equidistant for fans of the rivals on the hardwood, but COVID put that plan on pause for the year. 

Still hoping to see the rivalry play out, however, both sides went back to the drawing board to find a way to make it happen, determining that this year's event would be played on one of the two campuses—the coin would decide which one. Missouri won the coin flip and the right to host the game on December 12 at Mizzou Arena.

On Thursday the Mizzou Athletics youtube channel, as well as both school's respective websites, aired&nbsp;Braggin' Rights on Campus: Coin Flip Special a program hosted by national basketball personality Andy Katz.

The program featured&nbsp;interview segments with several key figures from both institutions including both head coaches, Cuonzo Martin and Brad Underwood, Mizzou President &amp; Chancellor Dr. Mun Y. Choi and Illinois Chancellor Robert Jones, and Athletic Directors, Jim Sterk and Josh Whitman as well as an appearance from Mizzou senior standout Jeremiah Tilmon, Jr., and Illinois star junior Ayo Dosunmu&nbsp;

Mizzou men's basketball gets first win of season; will host Braggin Rights game

Chiefs fans might be interested in a new book.

Author David Smale has written about the history of the Kansas City Chiefs.

One of the many stories he tells, details the differences between current Chiefs president and owner Clark Hunt, and his father Lamar.

"Not that Lamar was not approachable" says Smale "But Clark just seems more like an average guy and a little easier to call him Clark then it was to call Lamar, Lamar." 

Smale's new book titled The Keys to the Kingdom details the history of the Kansas City Chiefs.

"It's basically a series of short features on the people and the events that have shaped the franchise's history" Smale says "Going all the way back to the founding of the franchise and going back to the founding of the AFL by Lamar Hunt and it covers moving to Kansas City in 1963."

Smale adds that the book touches on the tremendous success of the team in the AFL going all the way up to this past season’s Super Bowl win

Smale will be in St. Joseph on Saturday signing copies of his book at Pony Express Sports at the East Hills Mall.  Copies of the book will be available the day of the signing

Missouri Western's football game scheduled for Saturday, November 14th, at West Texas A&amp;M, has been canceled due to COVID-19. The game will not be rescheduled.

The Griffons also announced that head football coach Matt Williamson tested positive for COVID-19 during the team's weekly NCAA testing requirements on Wednesday. Additional members of the Griffon coaching staff are also in the athletic department's COVID-19 protocols, preventing the Griffons from competing this weekend.

The football program's overall positivity rate remains low, with all student-athletes who competed against Pittsburg State last weekend testing negative during this week's testing. Griffon Football has experienced a positivity rate of under 2% since weekly testing began in late September.

"We remain incredibly impressed with the commitment our student-athletes and staff have displayed in fighting the spread of COVID-19 within the athletic department," said vice president for intercollegiate athletics Josh Looney. 

"Our weekly testing continues to reinforce the virus mitigation strategies our medical team has put into action. Unfortunately, recent positive cases have targeted a very specific portion of our football program that prevented us from moving forward with competition this weekend."

The Griffons are currently slated to conclude a modified fall 2020 schedule at Nebraska-Kearney on November 21st. Missouri Western intends to finish its fall season in Kearney, NE pending the results of next week's rounds of COVID-19 testing.

To fairly decide which venue will feature the premier matchup, national college basketball personality Andy Katz will host a Braggin' Rights On Campus: Coin Flip Special live production on Facebook, YouTube, and both schools' official athletic websites, MUTigers.com and FightingIllini.com at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 12.

Braggin' Rights on Campus: Coin Flip Special will feature interview segments with several key figures from both institutions including both head coaches, Cuonzo Martin and Brad Underwood, Mizzou President &amp; Chancellor Dr. Mun Y. In an effort to maintain some of the neutrality that St. Louis' Enterprise Center provides for this annual contest from a staging standpoint, the institutions mutually agreed that fans would not be able to attend the game at either site. Following the 2020 edition of Braggin' Rights, plans are to continue holding the event at the Enterprise Center in 2021 and beyond.

Mizzou and Illinois have met 50 times in program history and the 2020 edition will mark the first time Braggin' Rights isn't played in St. Louis since an overtime thriller in Champaign on Dec. 4, 1979. Illinois leads the all-time series 32-18 with Mizzou winning the last two outings. The two teams have met in Champaign five times and Columbia on five occasions in addition to one lone matchup in Kansas City on Dec. 16, 1946.

Mizzou senior standout Jeremiah Tilmon, Jr., and Illinois star junior Ayo Dosunmu will also join the program.At the conclusion of the show, Katz will flip a two-sided coin that displays Mizzou's "Oval Tiger" on one side and the Illinois 'Block I" on the other, and whichever institution's logo lands right-side up will host the 2020 edition of Braggin' Rights.In an effort to maintain some of the neutrality that St. Louis' Enterprise Center provides for this annual contest from a staging standpoint, the institutions mutually agreed that fans would not be able to attend the game at either site. Following the 2020 edition of Braggin' Rights, plans are to continue holding the event at the Enterprise Center in 2021 and beyond.Mizzou and Illinois have met 50 times in program history and the 2020 edition will mark the first time Braggin' Rights isn't played in St. Louis since an overtime thriller in Champaign on Dec. 4, 1979. Illinois leads the all-time series 32-18 with Mizzou winning the last two outings. The two teams have met in Champaign five times and Columbia on five occasions in addition to one lone matchup in Kansas City on Dec. 16, 1946.

2020 'Braggin Rights game between Missouri and Illinois on; site decided by coin flip

Missouri Western women's basketball coach Candi Whitaker has announced the next generation of Griffons, signing four MWSU commits for the 2021-22 season.

All four high school signees come from the states of Kansas and Texas.

Missouri Western Women add four on National Signing Day

Head coach Austin Meyer has signed seven recruits to the Northwest Missouri State University women's basketball team.

Kendall Clatt is a 5'10", shooting guard from Indianola, Iowa (Indianola HS). Clatt is a three-time all-Little Hawkeye Conference selection for head coach Jeff Janssen. As a junior, she averaged 13.1 points and 4.9 rebounds. She led the conference in three-point field goal percentage (42%) in 2019-2020. 

Clatt had a 59% effective field goal percentage over her past two prep seasons. She is an academic all-conference honoree and a nominee for the Indianola Community Youth Foundation. She is the daughter of Maggie and Travis Clatt.

Lauren Eiman is a 6'1", forward from St. Joseph, Missouri (Central HS). Eiman tallied honorable mention all-conference honors as a junior. She tallied career highs in points (24), rebounds (14) and blocked shots (6) as a prep performer. 

Eiman is a three-time all-city pick. Eiman tallied all-district honors as a freshman and a sophomore. She earned academic all-state honors and holds a 4.0 GPA. She is the daughter of Brandon and Mindy Eiman.

Kelsey Fields is a 6'2", center from Creston, Iowa (Creston HS). As a junior, she averaged 17.6 points and 12.7 rebounds. She led the state in rebounding in 2018-19 and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in scoring. She holds the school record for rebounds in a game and in a career. 

She tallied all-state honors in 2019-2020. Fields is a three-time all-conference honoree for head coach Tony Neubauer. She is the daughter of Dan and Rebecca Fields.

Lauren Gillig is a 6'1", guard from Blue Springs, Missouri (Blue Spring South HS). As a junior, Gillig averaged 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds. 

She is a two-time all-district and all-conference performer for head coach Kory Lower. Gillig holds a 4.2 GPA and is a member of National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Mitch and Tiffany Gillig.

Laini Joseph is a 5'9", guard from Cameron, Missouri (Cameron HS). As a junior, she averaged 19.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. She enters her senior season having earned all-conference honors her first three years for head coach Matt Wenck. 

Joseph notched all-state honors as a junior. She is a member of National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Kent and Anne Wamsley.

Lindsey Kelderman is a 5'6" guard from Urbandale, Iowa (Waukee HS). Kelderman was named to the 2020 Iowa All-State Tournament team for head coach Chris Guess. As a junior, she averaged 11 points per game while shooting 43% from three-point range. 

Entering her senior season, Kelderman has 621 points, 195 rebounds, 159 assists, 115 steals. She has been a part of three state tournament teams and one that finished runner up. 

She is a three-time all-CIML performer, including first-team status in 2020. ] She is a member of National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Justin and Anji Kelderman.

Peyton Kelderman is a 5'8", guard from Urbandale, Iowa (Waukee HS). As a junior, she averaged 10.7 points, 3.4 assists (2:1 assist to turnover ratio) and shot 43% from three-point range. 

Kelderman secured third-team all-state honors as a junior for head coach Chris Guess. She tallied first-team all-CIML status as well as all-district accolades. \. She is a member of National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Justin and Anji Kelderman.

Northwest Missouri State women add seven; one from St. Joseph

The November 14 Georgia at Missouri football game has been postponed due to combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within one position group of the Tigers' football program, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements.

Because Missouri has a game tentatively scheduled for December 12, the opportunity to reschedule the Georgia at Missouri game will need to be evaluated. The rescheduling of games on the remaining SEC football schedule may include December 19 as a playing date.

This is now the fourth game within the SEC Conference to be postponed this week due to COVID-19.&nbsp; Earlier this week on Monday, the conference announced that Mississippi State and Auburn would be rescheduled.

On Monday, Texas A&amp;M halted all football activities because of multiple positive coronavirus tests, and by Tuesday they had also had their game against Tennessee postponed until December 12th.

There have also been multiple positive tests within the LSU football program that left the status of their game up in the air on Monday, but the league also made the call on Tuesday to postpone the matchup until the open date of December 12th.

This marks the most postponements within one week in the SEC this season, and the whole of college football, and marks the sixth time this season that the SEC has postponed a game due to COVID-19.

The MIAA announced its preseason coaches poll for the 2020-2021 women's basketball season during the 2020 MIAA Basketball Virtual Media Day Presented By Seigfreid Bingham.

Emporia State topped this year's coaches poll with a total of 153 points and four first-place votes. Last year, the Lady Hornets finished runner-up at the MIAA Women's Basketball Championship and qualified for the NCAA Championship before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 Global Health Pandemic. 

Nebraska Kearney earned the most first-place votes with six and was tabbed second with 146 total points. The Association's defending regular-season and tournament champion, Central Missouri, was picked third with 143 points and three first-place votes. Pittsburg State was slotted fourth and accumulated 140 points from the coaches. The final first-place vote went to Fort Hays State, which rounded out the top five with 125 points.

Not only is the Association the first to get its season underway in NCAA Division II but one of the first to start in any of the three NCAA Divisions.
