Brandon Lee Fisher 40, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday July 8, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital. 

He was born February 7, 1980 in Lubbock, Texas. 

He is survived by wife, Mamie Fisher of the home, father, Luster Fisher, mother, Debbie McClure, eight children: Greggory, Luke, Elizabeth, Justice, Terry, Memorie, Zechariah, and Faith, brothers, Heath, Andrew, and Phillip Fisher, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sister Agnes Honz, OSB, 86, a Benedictine sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kan., died Thursday, July 9, 2020, at the monastery. Funeral services are pending until a future date. Sister Agnes was born in Panama, Iowa, on April 25, 1934. After high school, she entered the monastery in 1951. Earning a B.S. in education from Mount St. Scholastica College, she taught in elementary schools in Kansas and Missouri for 20 years and later did graduate studies in counseling and theology at Creighton University. Always devoted to the people of southwestern Iowa, she was part of the Covenant Monastery foundation in Harlan, Ia. After earning her clinical pastoral education certificate, she worked as a chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Ia. She also served on the Diocesan Pastoral Council for the Des Moines diocese and the Regional Pastoral Council in Council Bluffs, Ia. One of the highlights of her life was receiving communion from Pope John Paul II when he visited Des Moines in 1979. From 1987 to 1993, she was a chaplain at St. Joseph Medical Center in Ponca City, Okla. When she returned to the Mount, she did hair care and therapeutic massage and assisted at the Mount Conference Center and Sophia Center. Sister Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, Sedona (Hoffmann) and Clement Honz, her brothers, Raymond, Donald, Edward and Dennis Honz and her sister, Rita Schneckloth. Mary Ann (Abernathy) Heastan, 89, of Savannah, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Shady Lawn Living Center.

Mary was born on October 1, 1930 in Stanberry, Missouri to Gilbert and Ruth Maxine (Elliott) Abernathy. She lived most of her life in Savannah. She was housewife most of her life. Mary was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the V.F.W.

Mary married Calvin Heastan on January 6, 1949. They were married 52 years. He preceded her death on March 25, 2002. Mary also had a companion Lester Basham (Drut) of 13 years. Lester passed away in 2015.

Mary enjoyed her family, Casino, Bettys Café, getting hair done at Linda’s Hair Design in Savannah for many years, also car rides, new friends at Shady Lawn.

She was preceded in death by her parents. one brother, George Ray Abernathy and one sister, Betty Jean Watson.

Jacob Cainen Bichelmeyer, 44 passed away in his Hiawatha, KS home on Thursday, June 25. &nbsp;

Jake was born on December 16, 1975 in Lawrence, KS to Matt Bichelmeyer and Robin(Lattie)Bichelmeyer. &nbsp;He grew up in the Western Shawnee /Lenexa area until he was 15, then the family moved to Tonganoxie, KS. Jake enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and riding 4-wheelers. &nbsp;He also loved to play the guitar just like his Dad. &nbsp;He often talked about wanting to be a park ranger. &nbsp;He loved animals and had a special place in his heart for dogs, of which he had many over the years.

&nbsp;Jake married Joanna Finch in June 1997, and together they had two daughters, Bailey Jo and Riley Ann. &nbsp;Jake helped &nbsp;his Dad in both his Grocery store &nbsp;and later in his Steakhouse, even helping with the transition from one to the other. &nbsp;He also had many other jobs throughout his life, such as flooring installation, construction, meat cutting, tree-trimming, and he was a member of the Laborers Union. &nbsp;In 2015, Jake married Sherry Lyn Jones. &nbsp;They lived together in Hiawatha, KS with their two dogs, Louie and Lola. &nbsp;Sherry and Jake were very much in love.

&nbsp;He is preceded in death by his Father, Matt Bichelmeyer.

&nbsp;Jake is survived by his wife, Sherry of the home, two daughters Bailey and Riley of Tonganoxie, KS, a stepdaughter Tara Coffelt of Oregon, MO, a stepson Christopher Smith(Lacy) of Dearborn, MO, his Mother Robin McKinzie (Gary) of Olathe, KS, one sister, Jenny Hipsher(Tony) of Shawnee, KS, two step-brothers Hunter Dean and Parker Dean of Kansas City, 2 nieces, Jordan and Macie and two Stepmothers, Vicki Selby and Randi Bichelmeyer.

Charliss Kay Korthanke, age 68, passed away on July 2, 2020 at her home outside of Robinson.&nbsp; She was born on January 25, 1952 in Norman, Oklahoma to Bernard and Donna Dellasega, but was raised in Pittsburg, Kansas.

&nbsp;Charliss was a beautiful and outgoing person.&nbsp; She was crowned homecoming queen of her high school class and was an attendant at homecoming at Pittsburg State University, where she met her eventual husband of 44 years, Jim Korthanke.&nbsp; He had never met anyone quite like her.&nbsp; He saw her for the first time in 1973 during a 4th of July weekend.&nbsp; She was standing on a table with a friend leading a song in front of a packed house.&nbsp; A quiet and reserved person by nature, Jim was drawn to the warm and gregarious Charliss, who was the life of the party.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was hard to forget.

They were married on June 4th, 1976.&nbsp; As the well-used 1965 Ford truck, fitted with a camper, began to sputter on the steep gravel road on the way up Pike’s Peak during their honeymoon, Charliss perhaps wondered how long her marriage would last.&nbsp; But after having five kids, starting an ostrich business, building their dream house, and retiring to spend time with their 12 grandkids, it seems that there was never any reason to wonder.&nbsp;

Charliss loved bright, colorful things and had a creative eye for fashion and design.&nbsp; She collected decorative items and enjoyed spending time gardening and with her grandkids.

&nbsp;Charliss is survived by her husband, Jim; their five children, Kortney (Johnny), Reba (Jake), Eli (Galie), Isaiah (Caitlin) and Libby (Adam); 12 grandchildren, and three brothers, Steve, Dave, and Dan.&nbsp;

Charliss was preceded in death by her parents, Donna and Bernard; and her sister, Dena (Steve).&nbsp;

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12th at The Christian Center in Hiawatha from 4-7PM.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 13th at 10AM, also at the Christian Center.&nbsp; In celebration of Charliss’ personality the family would love for those attending to wear bright colors.

He was born November 23, 1966 to Junior and Francie Davidson. Allen loved all outdoor activities, such as riding his go-kart, biking, and spending time with his family and dog, Harley. He not only liked playing Ping Pong but was very good at it too. Allen was a genuine, nice guy. Allen enjoyed life: he was always planning for what the future held, always looking at the cup half full. Allen’s life was full of surprises, the biggest surprise was him going Home early to his Heavenly Father this 4th of July weekend. Allen will be missed and was loved by everyone that knew him. He never knew a stranger.

&nbsp; Dorothea Jean McFadden, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2020.

She was born July 31, 1932 in Liberty, Missouri to William and Nina (Toogood) McFadden.

Dorothea enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the cars go by and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clifford McFadden; sister, Martha Thornton; and nephew, Leonard Thornton.

Dorothea enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the cars go by and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clifford McFadden; sister, Martha Thornton; and nephew, Leonard Thornton. John Edward Means, 89, of St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care with his sons by his side. 

John was born in Horton, Kansas on September 14, 1930, the son of Earl T. and Ethel (Tate) Means.

John married Joann Hartman on February 7, 1953. Joann preceded him in death on July 4, 2003. To this union was born Daniel E. (Mary, deceased) Means of Big Lake Village, Missouri; Carol J. (Richard) Moreland of Topeka, Kansas; and Robert A. (Linda) Means of St. Joseph, Missouri, all survive him. John married Barbara Crouch on March 24, 2004. Barbara survives of the home.

John graduated from Kinsley High School in Kinsley, Kansas in 1948, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas 1952 with a degree in Agricultural Economics and also the Graduate School of Banking, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his career as County Agent for Atchison County Kansas. He was also a farmer in Brown and Atchison counties, Kansas. John’s banking career began as an Agricultural Representative for Citizen’s State Bank and Trust Co. in Hiawatha, Kansas. He then served as Executive Vice President of Citizen’s State Bank and Trust in Manhattan, Kansas before returning to Hiawatha Citizen’s State Bank and Trust, where he served as President and then Chairman of the Board until his retirement after more than 50 years in the banking industry. John also served as Brown County Commissioner, was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was involved in many other community activities. He served the Boy Scouts of America, multiple Masonic bodies, and the Kansas Bankers Association. John was a co-founder of the First State Bank of Elwood/Pony Express Community Bank in Elwood, Kansas and St. Joseph, Missouri. He was also a co-founder of BMS companies and RitePack in St. Joseph, Missouri. John lived a loving and fulfilling life, enjoying time spent with his friends, family and all those he encountered.

Additional Survivors – Six grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; Stepchildren, Michael (Sheila) Crouch of Kansas City, Missouri; Sheila Reed of Cave Creek, Arizona; 6 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister-in-law Betty (Hutchison) Means; brother Thomas C. Means; stepdaughter Connie Vitale; daughter-in-law Mary E. Means.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no visitation. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Bertha A. O’Banion, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

She was born November 11, 1937 in Grant City, Missouri to Chester and Opal (Thomas) King. Bertha married Roy O’Banion April 28, 1957; he preceded her in death January 2, 2002.

She was a member of Trinity United Brethren Church, a Brownie and Girlscout leader and did seamstress work out of her home. Bertha’s cookies and baking skills will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy; granddaughter, Johnna Ann Muff; sister, Ada May Fletchall (Eugene); brother, Don L. King; brothers-in-law, Charles Stuck and Terry Wintjen.

She is survived by husband, Robert Tyler, of the home, sister, Diana Fanning of St. Joseph, children, Liberty Gebel, Troy Fanning and Billy Fanning, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

He was born August 11, 1944 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Eugene and Katherine (Fullerton) McKay.

John married Karen Wise October 9, 1964; she survives of the home. He was a 1962 graduate of Central High School. John served in the Missouri Air National Guard from February 14, 1963 to February 14, 1969 as Supt. Sgn. Airman 1st Class.

He retired from Light and Power utility company in 2000 after working there for 30 years. He also worked for Second Harvest and then 3 years at SST.

John loved to travel, wood working, gardening, and fishing. His grandchildren were his life, he loved going to all of their school programs and sports activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Karen; children, Timothy McKay (Debi), Jenny Hovey (Jeff); grandchildren, Gabrielle (Anna), Jackson, Alexandria, Patrick; great-grandchild, Oakleigh; brother, Eugene McKay (Annette); sister, Terry Massengale, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

&nbsp; Deborah "Debi" K. Brott, 71, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. She was born Feb. 9, 1949, in St. Joseph, to Carroll and Betty (Colburn) Brott. Debi was a graduate of Central High School and Missouri Western, earning a Bachelor of Social Work, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She had formally been employed by Sister's Hospital and the Noyes Home. Debi was a loyal and dedicated employee of Boehringer Ingelheim for over 35 years, until her recent retirement in Jan. 2020. Anyone who worked alongside Debi would say she was a hardworking, kind colleague who put others before herself on numerous occasions. She had a passion for cooking shows and spending weekends cooking alongside her partner, Tammy Santos, of St. Joseph. She was deeply dedicated to her family and friends. Debi was preceded in death by father, Carroll "Babe" Brott, and beloved nephew, Brett Baltezor. Survivors include: her lifelong partner, Tammy Santos; her much loved mother, Betty Brott; and sisters: Trish Martin, Cyndi Hughes, Kathy Brott, Carol Baltezor, (Bill) and Shari Hendrix (Roger). Also: nieces Tia Brott-Silkett (Anita), Jesica Haave (Matt), and nephews, Dr. Douglas Hughes, Jr. (Katrina), John Haenni, and great nephews: Keyler and Keyaun Haenni, Ellington Hughes; and great nieces, Avia and Isla Hughes. Dolores was born on August 8, 1930 in Rulo, Nebraska to Charles E. and Alice (Bowhay) Frederick.

She was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church, Troy, Kansas. Dolores worked as a hotel clerk.

Dolores married Marion John Jackson on October 23, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1972.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Kathryn Ann Jackson in 1969, brother, Eddie Frederick and 3 grandchildren.

Kenneth Simpson, 74, of Troy, Kansas passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at his son’s home.

Kenneth was born on March 17, 1946 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Bert and Rosalie Simpson. He was drafted in 1966 and served in the United States Army until 1968. After returning to the states he entered the Steel Workers Union, and he also ran Ken Motors for years. He also worked for the St. Joseph School District from which he retired in 2005.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.

Kenneth Simpson, 74, of Troy, Kansas passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at his son’s home.Kenneth was born on March 17, 1946 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Bert and Rosalie Simpson. He was drafted in 1966 and served in the United States Army until 1968. After returning to the states he entered the Steel Workers Union, and he also ran Ken Motors for years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1987 to 1990, spending nearly two years stationed overseas in Germany. Charlie (as he was affectionately known) loved the outdoors and you could always find him outside doing yard work or working on his next big project. He loved woodworking, gardening, fishing and pool. He was also one of the biggest Chiefs fans you’ll ever find.

Delbert was preceded in death by his father, Delbert William Douglas Sr., sister, Denise Zuniga, son, Blake Beerbower and step-father, Robert Gardner.

Norma Jean Armstrong, 93, formerly of Reserve, Kansas, passed away Thursday July 2, 2020 at the Medical Lodges Nursing Facility in Holton.

She was born July 12, 1926 in Louisburg, Kansas, one of four daughters born to Charles Simmonds and Hattie Marie Hansen. She grew up in Louisburg where she attended school.

Norma worked as a riveter in Kansas City during the war for a short time.

Norma married Merle V. “Buck” Armstrong, Sr on April 28, 1946 at Reserve. She was a stay at home mother, and it was very important to her to raise her family and take care of her husband. They lived in Topeka while Merle worked as an installer, and a lot of his work was with the AT&amp;T tower south of Fairview, Kansas. The family eventually moved to Reserve in 1962 to make their home and help take care of elderly parents. Buck died February 6, 2010.

Norma was a member of Highland Park United Methodist church while they lived in Topeka, Kansas.

Norma was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Merle Armstrong Jr., and two sisters Maxine and Thelma.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Armstrong (Terri), Aiken, South Carolina, Gary Armstrong (Betsy) Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister Charlene Fiedler (Dave) Holton; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, July 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. The family will meet one hour prior to the service.

Helen Hageman, passed away from cancer on July 3, 2020.

&nbsp;She is survived by her sister, Mary Schrader (Raymond), Topeka, KS, nephews:&nbsp; &nbsp;Ben Schrader (Lou Ann), Olathe, KS, Brian Schrader, Topeka, KS, and grand nieces Courtney and Michelle Schrader, Olathe, KS.

Helen was preceded in death by her younger sister, Nancy Hageman.

Helen was born Jan. 11, 1941 to her late parents, Ben and Florence (Hinton) Hageman. She grew up on a farm near White Cloud, Ks, and attended Robinson Rural High School. Helen graduated from Emporia State University in 1963. She taught at Hickok School in Ulysses, Ks. for 38 years. When Helen retired, she moved back to Hiawatha, KS. &nbsp;Helen taught 3rd&nbsp;grade most of her time and enjoyed crochet and reading.

The family will have a private cemetery service. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later time.

Lorraine A. Schlegel, 90, of Onaga, died Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Community Hospital in Onaga.

She was born May 30, 1930 on the farm at Delia, the daughter of Ross and Thelma Gilliland Houck. She graduated from Emmett High School.

Lorraine was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC in Onaga and the Onaga Saddle Club. She was an avid gardener and loved her chickens and redbirds.

She was a homemaker and farm wife, and she drove a truck with the best of them in the family’s trucking business.

Lorraine married M.B. “Merrill” Schlegel on June 19, 1948 at Holton. He died October 9, 2006.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Devin Schlegel.

Survivors include four sons, Jack Schlegel (Candy), Jerry Schlegel (Lois), and Jim Schlegel (Marla), all of Onaga, and Jay Schlegel (Brenda), Westmoreland; two brothers, Lindsey Houck, Delia and Lanny Houck, Blossom, TX; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Leo Stanton “Stan” Hughes 75, of Saint Joseph, passed away Monday, June 29, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 15, 1945 in St. Joseph, to Leo and Jessie Hughes of Faucett Missouri. He graduated from Faucett High School, University of West Florida and Northwest Missouri State University.

He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1971 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Stan was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was very proud of his military service.

Stan was self-employed as the owner and operator of Stan Hughes Accounting &amp; Tax Practice for nearly 40 years. He prided himself on taking good care of his clients and enjoyed spending time with them. In his free time, Stan loved to go fishing, play golf and was a country music enthusiast.

Stan was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Joan Ellen Stuppy Hughes; father, Leo Francis Hughes; and mother, Jessie Stanton Hughes.

Survivors include: daughter Chelsea (Jide) Obinegbo; Riha Obinegbo his beloved granddaughter; Ashley Curry and countless loved ones.

Family will receive friends beginning at 12 p.m. Thursday July 9th, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Farewell services with military honors will follow at 2 p.m.&nbsp; Services will be livestreamed.

&nbsp;Mary Ellen Myers, 93, went to be with her Heavenly Father Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mary was born February 15, 1927 to Charles Nelson and Nell (Jones) Nelson in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She lived most of her childhood in Florence, South Carolina. She truly loved Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she later retired.

Mary was married to Major John C. Moak, Sr. and after his death married Major Milo Myers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and son, Randy Myers.

Left to cherish her memories are sons: Larry Moak (Mary Beth) of Houston, Texas; John Moak Jr. (Judy) of St. Joseph, Missouri; Greg Myers (Debbie) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Jim “Gordon” Myers (Brenda) of San Diego, California; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Elizabeth Bridges of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Florence Grimes of Columbia, South Carolina.

Mary was a professional Model and taught modeling. She was an avid golfer and won many tournaments as well as an avid bridge player and won master points over the years. Her hobby was painting. Mary enjoyed the past several years as a resident at Living Community in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Left to cherish her memories are sons: Larry Moak (Mary Beth) of Houston, Texas; John Moak Jr. (Judy) of St. Joseph, Missouri; Greg Myers (Debbie) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Jim “Gordon” Myers (Brenda) of San Diego, California; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Elizabeth Bridges of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Florence Grimes of Columbia, South Carolina. Mary was a professional Model and taught modeling. She was an avid golfer and won many tournaments as well as an avid bridge player and won master points over the years. Her hobby was painting. Mary enjoyed the past several years as a resident at Living Community in St. Joseph, Missouri. A family memorial will be at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project.&nbsp;&nbsp;<figure>

&nbsp;Glenrose “Glenny” Steeb, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020.

She was born October 12, 1927 in Wathena, Kansas to Frank and Myrtle (Young) Summers.

Glenny married Merrill Steeb April 28, 1949; he survives of the home. She attended Humbolt Elementary, Lafayette High School and St. Joseph Junior College.

&nbsp;Glenrose “Glenny” Steeb, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020. She was born October 12, 1927 in Wathena, Kansas to Frank and Myrtle (Young) Summers. Glenny was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, walking, and bowling. Glenny was an avid antique collector and attended estate sales. She and her husband traveled extensively to attend Marine reunions for years. They also traveled to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, New Zealand, Samoa, Mexico and St. Croix. Glenny was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard “Dick” Summers, and son-in-law, Kenny Bledsoe. Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Merrill; daughters, Sally Thorp (John), Marilee Creason (Curt); grandchildren, Zale Bledsoe (Jess), Austin Bledsoe (April), Meghan Eliason (Blake), Jerra Creason; great-grandchildren, Lola Bledsoe, Harvey Bledsoe, Miles Bledsoe, Maggie Eliason, and Heather Eliason. Natural Farewell Services under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Mosaic Hospice Care or Alzheimer’s Association in c/o Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory.
