Robert "Bob" Emmett McAsey 90, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020 at a Saint Joseph, MO health care center. 

He was born March 18, 1930 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Edna and Emmett McAsey. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School, and married Geraldine Hummer, the love of his life. They shared 73 years of marriage together. He served in the United States Marine Corp. He retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad after many years of service as a Clerk. Bob was a loving, wonderful, and caring husband, father, brother, and grandpa. He had many friends because he was always a good friend. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards with his beloved wife, Jerri and loved his Catholic faith and attending Mass. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathleen McAsey, brothers, James, William, and Francis "Sonny" McAsey, and a sister, Mary Ann Yager. 

Survivors include: wife, Jerri, daughter, Sheron (James) Edelman, sons, Dennis McAsey, Kansas City, MO, and James McAsey, St. Joseph, MO, sister, Nancy Herbert, grandchildren: Sandy (Shannon) Martin, Renee (Jeremy) Barton, Brandon and Becky McAsey, 7 great grandchildren: Tony (Ayala, Shalee, Keldin, Laylee, Cooper, Madison, and Austin, 5 great-great grandchildren: Seth, Remi, Summara, Brooklyn, and Jersey, also several nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Shirley McAsey, extended family, and many friends. 

He will be greatly missed, but leaves many memories.The Memorial Mass of Commemoration will be celebrated at a later date at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.&nbsp;

Clarence was born on February 7, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Joseph and Alice (Huddelston) Wood.&nbsp;

He graduated from Central High School (1948) and proudly served in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; He was a lifelong Baptist&nbsp; and was employed by Quaker Oats.&nbsp; Clarence loved woodworking and his chow dogs.

Clarence married Rose Marie Sullivan on January 11, 1950 in St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp; She passed away on November 18, 2014.&nbsp;

In addition to his parents and wife, Clarence is preceded in death by his son Robert Wood and brother Gordon Wood.&nbsp;

Clayton D. Judkins, 79, passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at his home in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He was born December 25, 1940 to Samuel and Hazel (Hansen) Judkins in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Clayton married Sharon Allen June 23, 1962. She survives of the home. They shared 57 years of marriage together.

He worked for Dugdale Packing Company for 15 years, and Quaker Oats for 21 years. Clayton was employed with Heartland Medical Center and St. Paul Lutheran Church after retirement.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he held numerous positions, including President of the Congregation and School Board President.

He enjoyed baseball and as his sons were growing up was involved in Little League Baseball as their coach, as well as playing slow-pitch softball. He loved hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, James, Leonard and Victoria.

Survivors also include children, Mark, Jeffrey and Patrick; and grandchildren, Sydney, Wm. Clayton (Clay) and Brennan.

Private Graveside Services and Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends at a later date for funeral services at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was born September 5, 1927 in Stewartsville, Missouri to Frederick C. and Leona Bee (Shackelford) Waller.

Byron married Grace L. Gaylord September 27, 1947. They were married for 56 years. He later married Rita (Bollinger) Swartz in 2005. She survives of the home.

Byron graduated from Stewartsville High School in 1945 then served in the Army Air Force in California. He retired from farming and as a Rural Letter Carrier, a position he held for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Gaylord; parents, Fred and Leona (Shackelford) Waller; infant daughter, Barbara; sons-in-law, Charles Roster and LeRoy Montoya; brothers, Owen and Robert F.

She was part owner and operator of Winzer Brother Trucking Company and she also was a house cleaner. Linda was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Atchison, KS. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino with her mom, crocheting, reading, crafts and her plants.

Linda married Everett Winzer on August 17, 1974 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Atchison, KS. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1987. Survivors include a cousin Myrna McConnaughey, aunts, Gladis Bewley and Rene Hansen, brothers in law, Robert and Ollie Winzer, Sister in law, Reona and Ted Johnson and lots of cousins and nieces and her fur babies Coco, Ginger and Mojo.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Vivian was born on Oct. 3, 1954 in Rochester, New York, the daughter of Seymour E. and Ruth E. (Dow) Sage, Sr. Even though Vivian was disabled all of her life, she did enjoy doing word search puzzles, watching Disney movies, and being around horses.

Vivian is survived by a brother, Seymour (Judy) Sage II, of Lancaster, KS; several nieces and nephews.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Seymour and Ruth Sage, Sr.; brother, Chester A. Sage; and sisters, Karen Bluma and Ruth Ann French.

He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia but lived most of his life in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

He was a member of the Special Forces Association, VFW, American Legion and DAV.

He loved hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends. He moved to Savannah, Mo in 2009 to live with his daughter and son-in-law.

He is preceded in death by: his parents Larry Brown and Clarabelle King; Wife, Alma Brown; Son, Joseph Brown; Brother, Glen Ray Brown; Sisters, Loretta, Betty and Henrietta.&nbsp;

She was born May 6, 1920 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Alene was a member of Faith United Church. She graduated from Central High School in 1938. Alene was employed with Swift from 1941-1970. She later attended Missouri Western in 1971 and became a teacher for the St. Joseph School District, teaching at Everett School for nine years and Humboldt for eleven years. She retired in 1993.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Susan (Goff) Tourbier; sisters, Ada Tourbier and Susan Wellenkotter.

Survivors include nephew, Carl Wellenkotter (Patsy); great-nephew, Karl Wellenkotter.

Robert H. Bates, IV, 44, St. Joseph, Missouri, unexpectedly passed away early Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

Bob was born April 18, 1975 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Robert and Georgia (Norman) Bates.

On July 10, 2004, he was united in marriage to Lisa May Carpenter.

Bob graduated from Lawson High School in 1993. He owned his own concrete business, Concrete Creations, for eight years, then later went on to become an Insurance Broker, Senior Benefits Services.

He was a very involved father and baseball coach.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia (Norman) Bates; stepmother, Victoria Bates.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa (Carpenter) Bates; children, Haley, Robert H., V, and Jason Bates; father, Robert H. Bates, III; siblings, Melissa Peterman, Michael Herman, Michele Burch, Rachel Herman, Mark McClendon; and numerous nieces.

Gail "Doc" Leroy Busey Sr. 86, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday April 7, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care. 

He was born January 10, 1934 in Coffeyville, Kansas son of late Marie &amp; Virgil Busey. He married Virgina Bond Busey on July 10, 1952, and they shared almost 68 years together. He graduated from the Wann High School. Doc worked at Polsky Motors for 25 years, then retired from TWA after 15 years as a Mechanic. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, and he was an avid golfer. 

Doc was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother. 

Survivors include wife, Virgina Busey of the home, four sons, Virgil Busey, Kansas City, MO, Gail Busey Jr., Topeka, KS, David Lee Busey, St. Joseph, MO, and Roger Allen (Diane) Busey of Jacksonville, FL, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. 

Mr. Busey will be cremated under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. A Graveside inurnment service will be held at a later date.

Marva enjoyed traveling and cooking outdoors. She liked to play the organ and sing gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her parents and children, Terry Dennis, Teinja Pringle and Scott Campbell.

Survivors include children, Darlene Dennis (Raymond Hunt) and Marcus Dennis; siblings, Glen (Ruth) Watson, Gary (Mary) Watson, Jerri Watson, Michael Watson (Janice, John Watson (Deborah) and Judy Simmons (Melvin); stepchildren, Bridgetta Williams and Avion Baltizare; and 23 grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Anita Esther Horn, 99, of Atchison KS died on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 10th, 2020 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Randy Horn officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Anita was born on May 23, 1920 in Palisade, NE the daughter of John A. and Arletta E. (Sanders) Horn. She graduated from Palisade Rural High School in 1938 and attended Mt. St. Scholastica College , receiving her diploma in May, 1942. She had also attended the University of Kansas and Emporia State Teachers College. “Miss Horn” was a devoted school teacher for USD #409 from 1942-1985 in the Washington and Central Schools of Atchison. Although never married she had many children who looked up to her as a role model and guide. Many of her former students stayed in contact which was a real delight to her. Anita trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age after hearing a gospel message given by John Walden of Colorado. She spent many years fellowshipping with the Gospel Hall in Atchison and more recently the Riverbend Bible Church, now at the same location. Anita enjoyed sharing her love of Jesus with others.

She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, a life member of the National Education Association and Kansas State Teachers and City Teachers, AAUW. She enjoyed traveling overseas, Europe, and twice to France &amp; Switzerland, she had traveled into most of the states, Cuba and Mexico. She also enjoyed reading, taking care of her cats and corresponding and visiting with friends.

Anita is survived by cousins and a host of other friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Arletta Horn.

He was born March 2, 1961 in St. Joseph, son of Anna (Hartman) and Jesse McVey. He attended school in Wathena. He spent a number of years working in construction and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and fishing. 

Jerry was preceded in death by father, Jesse McVey, mother, Anna McVey, twin brother, Larry McVey, brother, Robert McVey, sister, Pam Davis, brother-in-law, Bob Wisler and niece, Mallory Adkins. 

Survivors include, sisters Phyllis (Ed) Poirier, Norma Wisler, Ruth (Mike) Gabriel, brother, Clinton (Joane) McVey, sister-in-law, Rena McVey, all of Wathena, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.

 A private family service and interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery has been held due to circumstances with the Coronavirus. Memorials are requested to the Odd Fellows Cemetery in care of Rupp Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Marjorie Eleen (McIntyre) Judd, 97, of Troy, Kansas passed away Saturday morning, April 4, 2020 at a nursing home in Wathena, Kansas

Marjorie was born on September 30, 1922 in Sparks, Kansas; she was the fifth of seven children born to Terrance Wm and Ruby (Searles) McIntyre.&nbsp; Marjorie lived all of her life in Doniphan County. She attended Doniphan County Schools and was a member of St. James Parish, Fanning, Kansas, and then St. Charles Catholic Church in Troy, Kansas. She graduated from Troy High School in 1940, after a course of what was then called “Normal Training”; she was qualified to teach school. She filled in for Hillman Hull when he left to serve in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Marjorie left teaching and was married to Rex Judd of Troy.

Marjorie worked at various jobs in St. Joseph during the war years. Later she worked for Lawrence Karr at the funeral home in Troy, which turned out to be almost 50 years of employment and service to the community.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Melzer, Paul and Dean McIntyre, sisters; Mary Linville and Norma Wells.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Judd) Jaeger, Los Osos, California

Wesley Lee Meyer, 63, of rural Hiawatha passed away with his family and close friends by his side on April 4,2020.

Wes was born December 7, 1956 in Horton, Kansas to Roland and Thelma (Slater) Meyer the youngest one of three children.

He grew up on the farm and attended Hiawatha Schools, graduating with the class of 1974. After graduation he worked on the farm till 1984 when he moved to Fort Scott, Kansas where he was the owner of a convenient store until 1985. He moved back to the farm in 1987 when he started his lifelong employment at Hiawatha Implement where he earned the Master Service Technician Certificate. He retired in 2019.During his time at Hiawatha Implement, he was also the owner and operator of Meyer Custom Bailing for several years, raised cattle and in his spare time, worked on tractors for area farmers and friends in his shop. Wes was also in an investment club. While some people worked to live, Wes lived to work.

Wes enjoyed river float trips with close friends, parties and get togethers in his shop. His shop was his home away from home. As well as four wheeling with his best friend, &nbsp;Alvin Waggoner, carving names into limestone rocks, a very special talent, and shooting pool. He started shooting pool at a very young age at Strahan’s Recreation in Hiawatha. And he continued shooting on Pool Leagues with Arley Hedrick, Jim Siebenmorgan, Chris Torkelson, Ed Brassfield, Bob Smith, and sometimes even his wife, Theresa. He laid his pool stick down five years ago when cancer wouldn’t allow him to shoot any more. Brady Chadwell was a close friend and a serious business partner and was very helpful till the very end. Wes loved farming, bailing hay, raising cattle and the pride of his life, his grandchildren. A quote from Jaxon, &nbsp;”grandpa can fix it, he can fix anything”.

Wes and Theresa Hammersmith were married on September 28, 2012&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; . She survives of the home. Also surviving is a daughter Jennifer (Pennington) Blauw and her husband, Jeff of Olathe, Kansas. Two Step-sons, Christopher and (Courtney) Torkelson Horton, Kansas and Ryan and (Kelle) Meininger of Hiawatha,Kansas. his grandhildren Corbin, Harper and Paisley Blauw. &nbsp;His step-grandchildren, &nbsp;Joshua Smith, Jaxon and Jhett Torkelson. Also, surviving is one niece Tammy Terveer and a sister-in-law Ella Lewis Hiawatha, Kansas, and a host of great nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert who passed away in 1953, his sister, Ramona (Meyer) Kinsley in 2004 and two nephews, Gary Kinsley in 1976 and Greg Kinsley in 2019.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday April 8th&nbsp;from 10-4. A private family graveside will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery.

He laid his pool stick down five years ago when cancer wouldn’t allow him to shoot any more. Brady Chadwell was a close friend and a serious business partner and was very helpful till the very end. Wes loved farming, bailing hay, raising cattle and the pride of his life, his grandchildren. He was born July 21, 1934 in Barnard, Missouri.

Vernon served in the United Stated Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired as an electrician for the US Navy. Vernon was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Name loved to work on old houses and fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Bonnie (Hainey) Richey; son, Bret Richey; brother, Ed Richey; sisters, Evelyn Puling and Mary Warner.

Pete married Mary Caroline Willis June 12, 1964; she survives of the home.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Pete had been a self-employed contractor, trucker and farmer. He loved animals and rescued many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Ruby (Tuey) Nichols, several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Caroline; daughter, Christina Rogers (Shawn); son, Walter Nichols (Maggie); grandchildren, Mason, Madison, J. R.; step-grandchildren, Cody, Zarah, Karah; sister, Ginger Dowden; several nieces, nephews, friends and cousins.

William L. “Bill” Garrison, age 72, formerly of Atchison, died peacefully at his home on April 4, 2020, in Basehor, Kansas, due to Agent Orange-related Parkinsonism.

Bill was born on November 22, 1947, in Atchison, KS, to Harold and Dorothy (Reynolds) Garrison. He was raised in Atchison, graduating from Atchison High School in 1966, and attended Highland Community College. In 1967, Bill was drafted to serve in the United States Army, where he fought bravely in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969 and was awarded two Purple Hearts. In 1971, he married Jeri Jeffries and they had two daughters, Amanda and Piper. After the two divorced, he met and married Janet Garrison on May 29, 1993.

Bill had several jobs in his lifetime, but most recently worked as a manufacturer’s representative in the hardware and home improvement industry in the Kansas City area. In 2004, he became involved with Run for the Wall, a cross-country motorcycle event organized to bring awareness and pay tribute to all veterans. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed spending time perfecting his swing on the golf course, most recently on the island of Hawaii with his sons-in-law and grandson. He was also a big fan of KU Basketball.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of the home; his daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and Jason Drury of Atchison, and Piper and Jason Stahl of Valley Falls, Kansas; grandchildren Caroline, Cameron, and Caitlin Drury, and Dakota TeBeest; a great-granddaughter, Summer Rose TeBeest; his mother, Dorothy Garrison Price, Atchison; his brother, David (Linda) Garrison, Wichita, KS; his sisters, Kathryn Soph, Atchison, Sarah (Doug) Bounds, Leavenworth, KS, and Jane McLain, Edmond, OK; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Zoey. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Garrison; his stepfather, Joseph Price; his brother, Michael Garrison; his brother in law, Greg McLain; and his beloved dogs, Ethel and Lucy.

A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Born October 9, 1956, in St. Paul, MN, Dennis lived life to the fullest. He loved God, his family and friends, laughter, movies, music, crosswords, and a good round of Jeopardy. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents John R. &amp; Geraldine and brother Tim. 

He leaves his brothers Gary and Patrick (Patricia); sister Cindy Spake (Martin); honorary brothers Joe Wertin and Esq. Brown; nieces; a nephew; his Bester siblings and their families; cousins; and many friends. 

When cancer struck he said, “I asked God for help and look at all of the wonderful people He sent to help me.” Endless gratitude for his doctors, loving nurses and caregivers at Diversicare and Mosaic, and friends who cared. Sober May 16, 2008, he grew in sobriety until his passing ~ his 11-year coin his most prized possession. Samuel L. Jacobson of St. Joseph MO died on March 23, 2020.

Samuel was born August 30, 1941 in Horton Kansas, the youngest of three children born to Irene Reece Jacobson and Thomas Jacobson. He served in the US Army in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1962, at the rank of PFC.

He was preceded in death by parents, his sister Donna Richard, Topeka KS.

&nbsp;He is survived by his sister, Carol Jacobson, Kansas City Missouri, two nephews, Christopher Larson, KCMO, residing in Saudi Arabia, and Jonathan Larson, Joplin Missouri, and by his niece, Laura (Stanley) Hart, Carbondale, Kansas and her two children, Courtney (TeeJay) Hart and Dakota Hart.

Samuel will be buried in the Horton Cemetery.
