

Helen "Pat" Patricia Jimenez-Fountain 86, of St Joseph, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020 at a St. Joseph health care facility. 

She was born March 8, 1934 in St. Joseph, daughter of Helen and Floyd Farris. She attended the Convent of Sacred Heart and Platte College. She married Pete Jimenez, and together they had their 4 daughters. She later married Charles Fountain. Pat worked at various offices within the Buchanan County Courthouse, and also on occasion at Joe Opticians since she was 19 years old. She loved to cook, especially Mexican food for her family and friends. Pat had put together a cookbook of her recipes for everyone to enjoy. In her youth, she began playing the organ at Holy Rosary, which she continued to do so for many years. She was also a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. 

Preceding her in death is her 1st husband, Pete Jimenez, 2nd husband, Charles Fountain, father, Floyd Robert Farris, mother, Helen Forestine Farris, brothers, Robert Farris and Louis Farris, and her aunt &amp; uncle, Henry &amp; Virginia McNutt. 

Survivors include, daughters, Cathy (Phil) Pinion of St Joseph, Rita (Arnie) Lindsay of Iowa Falls, IA, Theresa Hoelscher of Lake Ozark, MO, and Barb (Ted) English of Florence, AZ, sister, Mary Ellen Woodcock of St. Joseph, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and 5 nieces and two nephews.

Ms. Fountain has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Alzheimer's Association.

Myrna Kay Downing Geffer Casey Hopkins, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 from a lengthy illness, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 8, 1946 in DeKalb, Missouri to Russell and Lois (Lawrence) Downing.

Myrna assisted George Glore with the setup of the Glore Psychiatric Museum at the St. Joseph State Hospital from which she retired after more than 30 years.

She enjoyed bowling, dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She always made people laugh and was the life of the party. Myrna was loved by many.

She was preceded in death by husband, Harold L. Hopkins; and her parents.

Clara Patricia “Patti” Burri, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

She was born December 27, 1935 to Truman and Bernice (Reardon) Wilson.

Patti married Charlie Burri June 11, 1956. He survives of the home.

She was a 1953 graduate of Central High School. She graduated from St. Joseph Junior College and later Northwest Missouri State with a master’s in education. Patti taught at Edison Elementary, Hall Elementary and was a parent-teacher coordinator.

Patti was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church for over 50 years, PEO Chapter ED, Missouri Western Women, and is a member of Missouri Western State University Ambassadors Hall of Fame.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William Jewell Wilson.

Additional survivors include children, Brett Burri (Erin), Craig Burri (Shelly) and Carla Cole; grandchildren Justin, Kirsten, Kayla (Lexie), Spencer, Jackson, Joshua, Nicholas, Samuel, Kaitlyn, Reece and Avery; and one great grandchild, Poppy.

The family can never say thank you enough for the love and care Lori Ashworth gave to our mother as her caregiver. She and Greg are now family.

Russ was born on August 24, 1959 in Independence MO, to the late Alvin and Shirley Manley.

At the time of his passing he was employed at St. Joseph Beverage and had 17 years of service with the company.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends, outdoor grilling and was an avid fan of &nbsp;the Kansas City Chiefs.

He served in the U.S. Army during Korea. Norman worked at Conagra for the flour mill department.

Norman married Rebekah Gray, she preceded him in death. He then married Janita NG. She survives of the home.

He was born September 2, 1932 to James and Myrtle (Gilbert) Burns in Flandreau, South Dakota.

John married Velma Fern Brewer March 24, 1958.

He was a graduate of Lafayette High School. John proudly served in the US Army, during the Korean War and was discharged in 1963. He worked in maintenance at Dannon Mills and through to Farmland for 45 years, retiring in 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rodney Burns; sister, Juanita Carol Marie (Burns) Beaman.

Survivors include four sons; Larry Rathmann, Jr, Atchison KS, Mark Carlson, Overland Park, KS, Mike Carlson, Great Bend, KS, and Sonny Berry, Lancaster, KS, three daughters; Jeanne Jenson, Arlington, KS, Joyce Irby, Rogue, KS and Karolyn Terrazas ,Victorville, CA a sister; Sandy Tull, Atchison, KS, twenty six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Jason Robert Tomlinson, 47, of Atchison, KS, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at his home.

A celebration of life service is planned for a later date. Jason has been cremated under the direction of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home and will be interred in a private ceremony. Jason was born April 20, 1973 in Lincoln, NE, the son of John and Marge (Edwards) Tomlinson. He loved caring for children and worked as a Para Educator for USD 409 and for the Atchison YMCA as a Child Watch attendant. Jason truly enjoyed helping people and served on the boards for Project Atchison, Aimee’s Pennies For A Purpose and volunteered with the Salvation Army. He loved Husker football, fishing and spending time with family.

Jason married his true love, Margaret Feek on April 29, 2017 in Effingham, KS. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his mother Marge Tomlinson, Lincoln, NE, a brother John (Lora) Tomlinson, Jr., Albuquerque, NM, a sister, Cheryl (Roger) Kapustka, Roca, NE, a sister in law, Stephany (Paul) Koci, Atchison, KS, twenty-two nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, a niece Aimee Snapp, and nephew Samuel Tomlinson.



He was born Feb. 4, 1978, in Ashland, Oregon, son of Edward Hamilton and Sandra (Bair) Eldredge. He worked as a Controls Engineer at Show-Me Industrial Controls, Inc. He enjoyed horror movies, attending horror conventions, tattoos especially his horror tattoo sleeve, collecting and shooting firearms, and making his own ammunition, hunting, fishing, communicating through his ham radio, and spending time with his family and grandson. 

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Edward; grandson, Dimitri; paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents, and nephew, Marcus Klepees. Survivors include: Fiance of 17 years Chrissy Coy; daughter, Bobbi Hart; grandson, Dante'; mother and stepfather, Sandra and Robert Eldredge; stepfather, Donald Patterson; sisters, Jennifer (Jeff) Klepees and Jamie (Scott) Logston; brothers, Donald Jr., Adam (Falynn,) and Toby (Angie) Patterson; and several nieces and nephews.

Vivian Lorraine (Rieger) Neibling, 91, formerly of Highland, KS passed away September 22, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS.

Lorraine was born August 2, 1929 near Fairview, KS.&nbsp; She was the oldest of 4 daughters born to Fred and Audrey (Whitney) Rieger of Fairview, KS.&nbsp; She graduated from Fairview high school in 1947.&nbsp; Lorraine graduated from Highland Junior College with a teaching certificate, and taught for three years in a one room school house in Hamlin, KS.

Lorraine was a member of the Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church and was active in the women’s council, and as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent.&nbsp; Lorraine enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, embroidery, and quilting.&nbsp; She worked as the evening librarian at Highland Community College from 1981 to 1991.&nbsp; In 1990 Floyd and Lorraine were honored with the Kansas Master Farmer and Master Farm Homemaker Award.

Lorraine married Floyd Neibling on August 27, 1950, at the Evangelical Reformed Church at Fairview. They made their home and raised their family on their farm northwest of Highland until they moved to Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS. in 2010. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage prior to Floyd passing away on October 28, 2011.Survived by her children, W. Howard (Marsha) Neibling of Kimberly, ID, Marjorie (Wally) Martin of Cave Creek, AZ, Beverly (Mike) McGee of Manhattan, KS, and Robert (Christine) Neibling of Augusta, KS; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Nancy (Bill) Lambertson and Lois Ricketts, brothers- and sister-in-law Harvey Neibling, and Jerry and Carol Neibling of Highland, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, sister Janice, son-in-law John “Jack” Hinton, and Granddaughter Meghan McGee.

Larry Ray, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020.

He was born October 23, 1941 in St. James, Missouri to Jesse James and Della Mae (Bowman) Ray.

Larry joined the United States Army after high school. He learned to play pool while in the service.

In 1970, Larry started his own business, Larry Ray Carpet and Linoleum, retiring in 2012.

He loved playing cards and pool, restoring antique cars, and making people laugh. Larry never knew a stranger and always spoke his mind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and mother of his children, Barbara (Van Meter) Ray.

He was born January 28, 1932 in Agency, Missouri to George and Rhoda (George) Litton.

Charles married Susan Abbott May 20, 1982. She survives of the home.

He was a member of South Park Methodist Church, Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church, and member of AARP. Charles was a past member of Local #460. Charles worked for Affiliated Foods from 1955 to 1994, where he served as Union Steward for 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Litton; parents, brothers, William George Litton, Thomas Eugene Litton, Paul “Marvin” Litton, James Frederick Litton; sisters, Leola Mae Auxier, Ruth Ann Heater, Maxine Schneider, Rosa Pauline Phipps.

Diane was born November 15, 1952 to Kenneth Francis and Violet Lorraine (Higbe) Scott in Charleston, South Carolina.

Danny was born July 29, 1951 to Shelby R. and Ora M. (Randle) Donahoo in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Danny and Diane married December 21, 1971.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Robert Letchi and brother, Randy Scott.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Shelby L. Donahoo, Gene F. Donahoo, Richard A. Donahoo; sisters, Gladys Scherard, Goldie M. Donahoo and Martha Townsend.

Diane leaves behind sister, Susan Schantz (David), of St. Joseph, Missouri and brother, Mark Scott (Maria), of the Philippines.

Danny and Diane Donahoo, 69 and 68 respectively, Rosendale, Missouri, entered heaven together Sunday evening, September 20, 2020.Diane was born November 15, 1952 to Kenneth Francis and Violet Lorraine (Higbe) Scott in Charleston, South Carolina.Danny was born July 29, 1951 to Shelby R. and Ora M. (Randle) Donahoo in St. Joseph, Missouri.Danny and Diane married December 21, 1971.They were members of REA Union Church.Diane was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Robert Letchi and brother, Randy Scott.Danny was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Shelby L. Donahoo, Gene F. Donahoo, Richard A. Donahoo; sisters, Gladys Scherard, Goldie M. Daniel Edwards Connor, 79, St Joseph, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 21, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.

"Danny" was born July 30, 1941, in Livermore, CA, to Lloyd D. and Guyda R. (Hill) Connor. At the age of 5, his family moved back to their hometown of Hamilton, MO, where Dan attended school and played basketball.

After graduating from Penney High School in Hamilton, he began his career in the insurance business. Dan worked for Cameron Mutual (Cameron), Town &amp; Country Claims (Sedalia), Sentry (Overland Park), and spent the final 25 years of his career with American Family Insurance. While relocating with America Family, he and his wife Barbara added to their many friends while living in St Joseph, St Louis &amp; Minneapolis, before returning to St Joe to retire. Dan was a member of the Vincil #62 Masonic Lodge in Cameron, a Moila Shriner in St Joe, and active in United Way.

Dan didn't know a stranger. He was a hugger (whether you wanted one or not!), and would give any of his many valued friends the shirt off his back. He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church in St Joe, and frequent attendee at Lahaina United Methodist Church in Lahaina, HI.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 43 years; was a dear father to son Scott (Denise) Connor, Kansas City, MO, daughter Deena (Jim) Ocker, Cameron, MO, and son Shawn (Sheryl) Connor, Castle Rock, CO. He was a loving stepfather to Kathy Bowen, Independence, MO, and Buddy (Shalaine) Bowen, Kearney, MO. He was a very proud "Grandpa Dan" to 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Dixie Hales (Dean, d.) of Liberty, MO, and Pat Bathgate (Don) of Garden City, MO.

Visitation will be held 6-8pm on Friday, September 25 at Meierhoffer Funeral Home in St Joseph. Celebration of Life will be 1pm Saturday, September 26 at Ashland United Methodist Church in St Joe.

James Douglas Root, 73, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, September 21, 2020.

He was born October 29, 1946 to Homer and Opal Root in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Jim married Stacie Wells on July 1, 2000.

He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri, and Missouri Western College in St. Joseph. He was a General Manager at J&amp;B Distributorship in St. Joe before establishing the Felix Street Pub and Northland Properties in an effort to revitalize Downtown St. Joseph in the early 1990’s. He continued this endeavor throughout the rest of his life.

The world lost a wonderful man earlier this week. Jim Root, the man, the myth, the legend, the “Godfather of St. Joe”. He inspires all of us that knew him, as he leaves behind the moments and memories of a life well lived. He lived an amazing life, and did everything he ever wanted to do. His family and especially his children are all so proud of the man he was and the legacy he leaves behind. A legacy of family, honesty, hard work, kindness, acceptance, loving unconditionally, and a genuine love of life regardless of the circumstances.

He meant so much to so many different people in so many different ways as a son, a husband, a brother to some, a father and mentor to many and a friend to all. He provided guidance and compassion to so many that it is not uncommon to meet someone, especially in St. Joe, that attributes their happiness and success in life, at least in part to Jim Root.

Jimmy would have traveled to the ends of the earth for his wife and best friend Stacie, and would lay down his life for his children. He was an amazing Papa Root to his grandchildren and loved to leave them in stiches with his funny stories and endless antics. Jim will always be remembered by all those that knew him with laughter, love, and no shortage of stories that will be passed down for lifetimes to come. He shared his love, not only with his family and his friends in St. Joseph, but with the city itself, which he has even referred to in jest as “his girlfriend, St. Joe”. He loved downtown like a father loves a child.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Homer Root and Opal Baker (Gene); grandparents, Roy and Rhoda Bear; wife and BFF Stacie Wells Root; son, Travis Root; and his lifelong friend Dennis Butler.

Survivors include sisters, Marti Idlet of Hillsboro, Missouri, Judy Reed (Bob) of St. Joseph, and Donna Moorman (Chuck) of St. Joseph; brother, Roger Baker (Brenda) of St. Joseph; brothers from another mother, John Rock of New Point, Missouri, and Duffy Lydick of Paxico, Kansas; children, Joel Root (Sarah) of Platte City, Jami Root-Wray (Kevin) of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Jason Root Hatfield (Tara) of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Ronda Eisenberg-Zeihms (Ed) of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Heather Jackson of North Pole, Alaska; grandchildren, Charisma Root, Isaac Root, Lily Root, Bridie Root Hatfield, Corbin Root; brother-in-law, Kevin Wells (Janet) of St. Joseph; sister-in-law, Kerri Pettijohn (Tony) of St. Joseph; and numerous extended family members and friends.

She was born June 1, 1989 in Sacramento, California to Darrel W. and Tina “Angel” (Huitt) Johnson. Jessica was a member of The Klamath Tribes. She enjoyed writing, animals, walks with her mother and daughter, traveling, and spending time with her family. Jessica was a big supporter of her family’s dreams and she was loved by many.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ralph and Joanne Johnson; grandfather, Frederick Huitt.

Survivors include daughter, Izabella Huitt-Johnson; parents; brothers, Darrell, Steven, Dustin, Joeylee and Thomas Huitt-Johnson; grandparents, Lupe and Thomas White; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John David Ober, 82, of Atchison, KS, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born April 12, 1938 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Lawrence Sidney and Irene Griggs (Peacock) Ober. He served in the United States Army as a MP. John received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1974. He was a Police Officer earning the rank of Captain and retiring in 1985. John was also a farmer. He was a member of the Cole Camp Church in MO and then First Presbyterian Church, Atchison, KS. He enjoyed genealogy, coin and stamp collecting and boating on the lake.

John married Jean Marie Armstrong on April 12, 1959, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, David Craig and Molly Marie Ober, Atchison, KS, and a daughter, Dana Louise and Raymond Michael, Watts, Atchison, KS and three grandchildren, Michael “Dylan” Watts, David “Austin” Ober and Alexander John Ober.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rose Marie “Pobie” Shepherd, 99, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at her Home.

Rose was born on January 21, 1921 in St. Joseph, Missouri to John W. and Flossie M. (Mallory) Bally. She was a graduate of Benton High School and was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She was a former member of King Hill United Methodist Church and she enjoyed dancing at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center.

She married Enoch Lee Shepherd on September 21, 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Maxine Walden, son-in-law, Don Webster, one great-grandchild and three great-great-grandchildren.
