Tristan C. Simpson "Mini", 26, Elwood, Kansas, died on Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, from catastrophic complications of undiagnosed Diabetes at KU Medical Center. Tristan was born Feb. 17, 1994, in Topeka, Kansas and was a lifelong area resident of Elwood, Kansas.

He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Roger was a successful entrepreneur and owned Chafen Body Works for over 40 years. He enjoyed restoring cars and antique boats. He loved spending time with his extremely spoiled dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife, Tammy; brother, Randy Chafen (Gloria) and their daughter, Megan.

Dorothy Jane Umphrey 70, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at her home. 

She was born April 7, 1950 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Myrtle and Aaron Keith Sr. &nbsp;She attended Benton High School, and she was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing the piano, listening to Gospel music, cake decorating, and spending endless time with her family. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James Eugene Umphrey, her parents, sister, Beverly Justis-Williams, brothers, Aaron Jr., Charles, Carl, and John Neal Keith. 

Survivors include: sons, Michael (Nicole) Umphrey, Sturgeon, MO., and Jim (Lisa) Umphrey, Newtown, MO, and grandsons, Cody Umphrey (Mason Lock) and Kaleb (Claire) Umphrey, granddaughter, Kaylee (Dillon) Baumgartner, sisters, Patty (Larry) Tracy, Elaine Ebling, Marilyn (Dennis) Steeby, great grandchildren, Avian &amp; Hadleigh, and her companion, Phil Martinez.

Thomas Edward Dawson 83, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

He was born March 2, 1937 in Omaha, NE, son of Bertha and Thomas Dawson. He graduated from Easton High School, and he attended St. Joseph Junior College. He worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring at the age of 55. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, doing hill climbs, shooting competitively, and he loved fireworks and hunting. He was a member of St. Joseph Lodge #78 AF&amp;AM, was a 32nd Degree Mason, past President and one of the founding members of the St. Joseph Rifle and Pistol Club. 

Thomas was preceded in death by father, Thomas Albert Dawson, mother, Bertha Dawson-Barton, and brother, David Dawson. 

Survivors include, daughters, Rebecca Dawson of St Joseph and Dana (Bobby) Hastings of Marianna, FL, and Kim (Ken) Thomsen of St Joseph, son, Brien (Becky) Dawson of St. Joseph, his companion, Fern Hill of St. Joseph, MO, niece, Susan Dawson, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, October 5, 2020 at Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Leanna VanZandt-Nauman officiating. Barbara June (Cavey) Dunn, 83, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at her residence.

She was born on February 21, 1937 in Helena, MO, to the late Sidney and Leota (Gibson) Cavey. She was a 1954 graduate of Bolckow High School. In 1955 she married Robert M. "Bob" Dunn. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2010.

Barbara Spent her working years in the offices of the Girl Scouts and the St. Joseph Health Department, she was also an Avon Sales representative.

Barbara was an accomplished musician. She sang and played at countless weddings and funerals over the years as well as playing for the churches that she attended. Music came naturally to her, even though she could read sheet music, she really didn't need it, she could play by ear especially in a "boogie woogie rhythm".

After her husband's death, she moved to Corby Place Assisted Living in St. Joseph where she became the "welcome lady" for new residents. She played the piano for them, and attended classes and parties.&nbsp;In the winter, she made caps &amp; scarf's for the homeless.

She loved family life and spending time with her sister and niece Jami shopping and eating.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter; Sandy Brooks, and granddaughter; Samantha Vaughn.

Mrs. Dunn is survived by son; Bruce (Brenda) Dunn, sister; Kay (Bob) Brittian, son-in-law; Steve Brooks, grandchildren; Mark (Jamie) Brooks, Jeff (Megan) Brooks, Wade (Erin) Sumter and Andrew Tritten. Eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 3:00-5:00 PM Sunday, October 4, 2020 at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel. The wearing of masks and social distancing will be observed.

Graveside service and interment; 2:00 PM, Monday, October 5, 2020 at the Bolckow Cemetery.

He was born February 14, 1956 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Orin Zeamer and Ann (McGarry) Blohm.

Pat loved dirt track racing, shooting, and working on cars and trucks.

He enjoyed wood working and doing anything with his hands.

Pat was preceded in death by his father, Orin; stepfather, Werner Blohm; and stepbrother, Kenneth Blohm.

She was born October 31, 1933 in Bethany, Missouri daughter of the late Edna &amp; Pearl Williams. She married William Merritt on January 15, 1927, and they shared 61 years together. She worked at State Hospital for 9 years, America Family Insurance for 10 years. Macel loved to play bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Macel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Albert Merritt, sons, William and Darrell Merritt, daughter Sue Lynn Merritt, sisters, Ruth Butterfield, Margaret Jean Almanza, and Helen Honeycutt, brothers, Charles, and Bobby Williams. 

Survivors include; sons, Michael and James Merritt of St. Joseph, MO, daughters, Barbara (Mark) Lockhart, St. Joseph, MO, and Charlotte (Norman) Wieser, step daughter Jackie Simmer, former daughter in law, Sarah Fanning, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

David Lacy Hamilton, 75 of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

David was born July 16, 1945 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to the late Monroe and Freida (Daniels) Hamilton. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

After returning, he did a lot of acting for many years in the 1960s locally.

David is survived by his daughter, Debbie Hamilton of Leavenworth, KS; brother, Daniel (Patty) Hamilton of Overland Park, KS and sister, Dianne (Steven) Pulley of St. Joseph, MO.

Mr. Hamilton has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

David Lacy Hamilton  1945 - 2020

On Monday September 28, 2020, Marilyn Siebenmorgan, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away at the age of 71.&nbsp; Marilyn was born on March 26, 1949 in Nortonville, KS to Celestine and Armella Schneider.&nbsp; She married Glenn Siebenmorgan on April 27, 1968.&nbsp; They raised three children, Lisa, Toni, and Doug in Hiawatha, KS.

Marilyn enjoyed making mosaics and was an excellent cook with a specialty in pie making.&nbsp; Her greatest joy was spending time with her two grandchildren, Alisa and Levi, attending their horse shows and ball games.&nbsp; She passed on her love of cooking to them.&nbsp; She was never without pictures of them and was always so proud to show them to everyone.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Glenn, of the home, her daughter Toni (Robert Jr.) of Macon, GA, her son Doug (Jayme) of Paxico, KS and her grandchildren Alisa and Levi of Macon, GA.&nbsp; She is also survived by brothers Bob (Linda) Schneider, Don Schneider, Mike (Luana) Schneider, Dennis Schneider, David (Rhonda) Schneider, all of Kansas; sister Donna (Marty) Moranville of Colorado; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Siebenmorgan Elliott, and her parents Celestine and Armella Schneider; brothers Celestine Jr. and Tom Schneider; sisters Alice Schneider, Darlene House, Pauline Durkin, and Glenda Frye.

Harold Leon “Doc” Childress passed away on his birthday, September 27, 2020 at 88 years old at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Born on September 27, 1932 in Hendrickson, Missouri, he grew up in neighboring Piedmont, where he graduated from Piedmont High School and was the first baseman on the baseball team. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in the minor leagues at age 17. He played one summer, but then went back to school, where he played both baseball and basketball. Doc attended Missouri Baptist College where he led the basketball team in scoring for two years and was elected to the All-State team. He transferred to the University of Missouri in Columbia where he majored in pre-med and then received his doctorate degree at Southern University of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He was in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the medical vision clinic. He bought an optometry practice in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and married his first wife, Sandra Savage, in 1960. They had two daughters, Kelly and Lisa, and moved to St. Joseph, MO.

Doc practiced optometry for 53 years. He was Missouri Western University’s eye and vision consultant for the athletic department and taught athletes how to improve performance through vision and was rewarded by inducting him into the Missouri Western Hall of Fame. He got remarried on June 24, 1981 to Marge Hatten and they were married for 39 years.

Doc loved hunting and shooting sporting clays, the most difficult shooting sport in the world. He started shooting in 1989 in the veterans’ division and made Team USA 1991. In 1992, the World Championship was in Vermont, where he tied for the bronze medal and won in a shoot-off with three other shooters. He was the first American to win a medal in world competition. He won three Missouri State championships; two SGAs in the 1990s and even one when he was 70 years old. Doc was in “Outdoor Life” magazine’s All American Sporting Clays for ten straight years. He was the first shooter inducted into the Missouri Sporting Clays Association and is the only sporting clays shooter inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. He is also in the Water Fowlers Hall of Fame for his expertise in shooting ducks, geese and doves.

Doc was preceded in death by his father, Carl Patrick Childress (who played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals) and his mother, Jewell Francis Moore. He is survived by his wife, Marge (Marge Nyren Hatten), his daughters Kelly Childress and Lisa Irons (Bill), his stepsons Rick Hatten (Dana), Greg Hatten (Janet), Ted Hatten (Lana) and his stepdaughter, Nancy Hatten Gardner. He has fifteen grandchildren: Stephanie Lincoln, Andrew Hatten, Emily Alford, Aaron Hatten, Mitchell Hatten, Daniel Hatten, Elizabeth Punzo, Sarah Weaver, Katie Brown, Alaynna Gardner, James Gardner, Truman Gardner, Jonah Hatten, Asa Hatten and Sam Hatten. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.

She was born on December 15, 1944, in St. Joseph to Charles Leroy and Lavita (Robertson) Anthony.

She married Ralph Roach Sr. on July 30, 1967. He survives of the home.

She earned an associate’s degree in child development. She was a childcare director for more than 40 years.

Linda enjoyed spending time with her family – her family was her life. She also was a two-time breast cancer survivor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Donna Addington.

Beverly Jane Shipley was born on September 4, 1932 in St Joseph to J. Jack &amp; Thelma B Smith. She grew up in St Joseph with her brother J. Roger Smith (late Barbara). She graduated from Central High School in 1950. The majority of her career was as a bookkeeper, 30+ years for Spartan Sporting Goods. Beverly valued most in life family, church and friends.

Beverly was married to James “Jim” B Shipley in 1951, they later divorced. They had two children, a son, James Kent Shipley (Lenore) and a daughter, Karen J “KJ” Langlais. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Hollie Schmidt (Jody), Sarah Robinson (Dustin), Chris Langlais (Jill), Adam Shipley (Sheri), Hannah Montgomery (Brandon), Sherrie Klover (Henry), Bill Gimse (Beth), Mike Fitzgerald Jr (Karla). However, her favorite role was as ‘Mimi’ to 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was also a loving aunt to Bruce Smith, Shelly Troester (Kent) and Sherri Smith along with numerous other nieces and nephews.

Beverly was a lifelong member of Wyatt Park Christian Church where she was actively involved in many ministries and groups throughout her life. Beverly was also an active member of the Class of 1950 Alumni group.

Beverly left this life on September 25, 2020. We are grateful for LaVerna/St Joseph Senior Living and AseraCare Hospice for their incredible love and care. Beverly leaves behind a legacy of love for family and friends as well as her compassion for others. Her family will hold dear a lifetime of holidays, vacations and family memories with their mother, grandmother, aunt and Mimi.

Helen Jane Brown 93, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital. 

She was born May 22, 1927 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Laura and Alva Cogdill. She was the owner operator of H.B. Catering for many years, and a member of the Faith United Baptist Church. 

Helen was preceded in death by husband, John I Brown Sr., parents, daughter, Sandra Donelson, 3 brothers, Alva, Ollie, and Paul Cogdill, 3 sisters, Alpha Crockett, Ruby Nunnery, and Wilma Heller. 

Survivors include, sons, John I (Norma) Brown Jr. and Jack (Ruth) Brown, and daughter, Nancy Brown (Billy Joe Huff) all of St. Joseph, MO, 12 grandchildren: Tammy Brown, Johnny Brown, Steve Brown, Tracey Weyer, Shane Brown, Angie Wuest, Troy Brown, Charles Donelson Jr., Jada Brown, Debbie Adkins, Jason Brown, Jaclyn Brown, and Nicole McWilliams, several, great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Floyd "Duane" Hendrix, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 at a local health care facility. 

He was born September 9, 1946 in St. Joseph, son of Lorna and William Hendrix. He graduated from Benton High School. He enjoyed watching and attending sporting events and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 

Duane was preceded in death by father, William Floyd Hendrix, mother, Lorna Helen Hendrix, brothers, Tommy Hendrix and Kenney Hendrix, sisters, Dolores McCray and Patricia McEnaney. 

Survivors include siblings, Sue Major of Kettring, OH, Roger Hendrix of Clarksdale, MO, Judy Sears of St. Joseph, children, Zach Hendrix of St. Joseph, Dana Hendrix of St. Joseph, Jarrett Hendrix of St. Joseph, Justin "Luke" Hendrix of St Joseph, William Hendrix of St. Joseph, 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, numerous nieces nephews and cousins.

Jewell H. Bunse, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away from this life on Saturday, September 26, 2020.

He was born October 15, 1924 near Cosby, Missouri to Henry H. and Clara C. (Schneider) Bunse.

On December 1, 1951, he married his wife of 68 years, Laveta Ingram, who survives the home.

Jewell was a 1942 graduate of Savannah High School. He grew up on the farm and operated a Grade A diary farm until 1983 when he moved to St. Joseph.

Jewell was a lifetime member of Zion United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, wood working, stained glass, and being a dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.

Jewell was preceded in death by his daughter, Karel McDonald; parents; sisters, Ruth Lind and Velma Rudolph.

He is survived by daughters, Karen Vulgamott (Monte), Loree Tedrow (Jeffrey); son, Steven Bunse (Carole); sister, Mae Bermond (Robert); grandchildren, Angela Davison (Jeremy), Jennifer Woldruff (Ryan), Scott McDonald (Katie), Brent Vulgamott (Jessy), Craig Vulgamott (Amanda), Joshua Bunse (Kala), Nathan Bunse (Rachel), Amy Bunse, Sarah Tedrow, Emily Brown (Matt), Molly Tedrow; and 16 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, David McDonald (Pamela).

Lawrence "Larry" Edward Wolfe 90, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 at his home in St. Joseph, MO. 

He was born June 22, 1930 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Mary and Ferris Wolfe. He worked at Western Dairy, Seitz, Monfort Pork, and he also owned &amp; operated Hadley Bar III Cafe in the Stockyards Exchange Building. He enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, working in his garden, and helping people. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. 

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Wolfe, his parents, five brothers and five sisters. 

Survivors include: daughters, Deola Wolfe, Sheryl Wolfe (Larry), and Beth (Tom) Fletcher, sons, Theodore (Rosanne) Wolfe, Mark Wolfe, and Jack (Debbie) Wolfe, grandchildren: Olivia Wolfe, Susan Sexton, Amanda Ross, Misty Parker, Michael Weiser &amp; Megan Weiser, Justin, Jordan, Ted, Jim, Jeremiah, and Brent Wolfe, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
