Vivian Lorraine (Rieger) Neibling, 91, formerly of Highland, KS passed away September 22, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS.

Lorraine was born August 2, 1929 near Fairview, KS.&nbsp; She was the oldest of 4 daughters born to Fred and Audrey (Whitney) Rieger of Fairview, KS.&nbsp; She graduated from Fairview high school in 1947.&nbsp; Lorraine graduated from Highland Junior College with a teaching certificate, and taught for three years in a one room school house in Hamlin, KS.

Lorraine was a member of the Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church and was active in the women’s council, and as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent.&nbsp; Lorraine enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, embroidery, and quilting.&nbsp; She worked as the evening librarian at Highland Community College from 1981 to 1991.&nbsp; In 1990 Floyd and Lorraine were honored with the Kansas Master Farmer and Master Farm Homemaker Award.

Lorraine married Floyd Neibling on August 27, 1950, at the Evangelical Reformed Church at Fairview. They made their home and raised their family on their farm northwest of Highland until they moved to Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, KS. in 2010. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage prior to Floyd passing away on October 28, 2011.Survived by her children, W. Howard (Marsha) Neibling of Kimberly, ID, Marjorie (Wally) Martin of Cave Creek, AZ, Beverly (Mike) McGee of Manhattan, KS, and Robert (Christine) Neibling of Augusta, KS; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Nancy (Bill) Lambertson and Lois Ricketts, brothers- and sister-in-law Harvey Neibling, and Jerry and Carol Neibling of Highland, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, sister Janice, son-in-law John “Jack” Hinton, and Granddaughter Meghan McGee.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.

A Celebration of Lorraine’s life is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Highland United Methodist-Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Kevin Rea officiating, assisted by Shane Spangler.&nbsp; Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.

Larry Ray, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020.

He was born October 23, 1941 in St. James, Missouri to Jesse James and Della Mae (Bowman) Ray.

Larry joined the United States Army after high school. He learned to play pool while in the service.

In 1970, Larry started his own business, Larry Ray Carpet and Linoleum, retiring in 2012.

He loved playing cards and pool, restoring antique cars, and making people laugh. Larry never knew a stranger and always spoke his mind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and mother of his children, Barbara (Van Meter) Ray.

Survivors include his daughter, Lori Cox (Greg), son, Steve Ray (Jana); 6 grandchildren, GC Cox (Rylee), Austin Cox (Rachel), Tyler Thompson, Jack, Sam and Sarah Ray; 2 great-grandchildren, Gage and Ava Cox; sister, Abby Landgraf (Bill); brother, Bud Ray; former wife, Brenda Ray, several extended family and friends.

He was born January 28, 1932 in Agency, Missouri to George and Rhoda (George) Litton.

Charles married Susan Abbott May 20, 1982. She survives of the home.

He was a member of South Park Methodist Church, Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church, and member of AARP. Charles was a past member of Local #460. Charles worked for Affiliated Foods from 1955 to 1994, where he served as Union Steward for 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Litton; parents, brothers, William George Litton, Thomas Eugene Litton, Paul “Marvin” Litton, James Frederick Litton; sisters, Leola Mae Auxier, Ruth Ann Heater, Maxine Schneider, Rosa Pauline Phipps.

He was born October 19, 1962 in St. Joseph, son of Patricia and Robert Johnson. He graduated from Benton High School class of 1980. In 2013 he married, Karen Vermulm. He worked at Snorkel as a machinist and his hobbies included fishing, playing guitar, cooking, cleaning and organizing. 

Patrick was preceded in death by mother, Patricia Mejia, step-mother, Judy Johnson.

Daniel Edwards Connor, 79, St Joseph, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 21, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.

"Danny" was born July 30, 1941, in Livermore, CA, to Lloyd D. and Guyda R. (Hill) Connor. At the age of 5, his family moved back to their hometown of Hamilton, MO, where Dan attended school and played basketball.

After graduating from Penney High School in Hamilton, he began his career in the insurance business. Dan worked for Cameron Mutual (Cameron), Town &amp; Country Claims (Sedalia), Sentry (Overland Park), and spent the final 25 years of his career with American Family Insurance. While relocating with America Family, he and his wife Barbara added to their many friends while living in St Joseph, St Louis &amp; Minneapolis, before returning to St Joe to retire. Dan was a member of the Vincil #62 Masonic Lodge in Cameron, a Moila Shriner in St Joe, and active in United Way.

Dan didn't know a stranger. He was a hugger (whether you wanted one or not!), and would give any of his many valued friends the shirt off his back. He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church in St Joe, and frequent attendee at Lahaina United Methodist Church in Lahaina, HI.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 43 years; was a dear father to son Scott (Denise) Connor, Kansas City, MO, daughter Deena (Jim) Ocker, Cameron, MO, and son Shawn (Sheryl) Connor, Castle Rock, CO. He was a loving stepfather to Kathy Bowen, Independence, MO, and Buddy (Shalaine) Bowen, Kearney, MO. He was a very proud "Grandpa Dan" to 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Dixie Hales (Dean, d.) of Liberty, MO, and Pat Bathgate (Don) of Garden City, MO.

James Douglas Root, 73, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, September 21, 2020.

He was born October 29, 1946 to Homer and Opal Root in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Jim married Stacie Wells on July 1, 2000.

He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri, and Missouri Western College in St. Joseph. He was a General Manager at J&amp;B Distributorship in St. Joe before establishing the Felix Street Pub and Northland Properties in an effort to revitalize Downtown St. Joseph in the early 1990’s. He continued this endeavor throughout the rest of his life.

The world lost a wonderful man earlier this week. Jim Root, the man, the myth, the legend, the “Godfather of St. Joe”. He inspires all of us that knew him, as he leaves behind the moments and memories of a life well lived. He lived an amazing life, and did everything he ever wanted to do. His family and especially his children are all so proud of the man he was and the legacy he leaves behind. A legacy of family, honesty, hard work, kindness, acceptance, loving unconditionally, and a genuine love of life regardless of the circumstances.

He meant so much to so many different people in so many different ways as a son, a husband, a brother to some, a father and mentor to many and a friend to all. He provided guidance and compassion to so many that it is not uncommon to meet someone, especially in St. Joe, that attributes their happiness and success in life, at least in part to Jim Root.

Jimmy would have traveled to the ends of the earth for his wife and best friend Stacie, and would lay down his life for his children. He was an amazing Papa Root to his grandchildren and loved to leave them in stiches with his funny stories and endless antics. James Douglas Root, 73, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, September 21, 2020.He was born October 29, 1946 to Homer and Opal Root in St. Joseph, Missouri.Jim married Stacie Wells on July 1, 2000.He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri, and Missouri Western College in St. Joseph. He was a General Manager at J&amp;B Distributorship in St. Joe before establishing the Felix Street Pub and Northland Properties in an effort to revitalize Downtown St. Joseph in the early 1990’s. He continued this endeavor throughout the rest of his life.The world lost a wonderful man earlier this week. Jim Root, the man, the myth, the legend, the “Godfather of St. Joe”. He inspires all of us that knew him, as he leaves behind the moments and memories of a life well lived. He lived an amazing life, and did everything he ever wanted to do. His family and especially his children are all so proud of the man he was and the legacy he leaves behind. A legacy of family, honesty, hard work, kindness, acceptance, loving unconditionally, and a genuine love of life regardless of the circumstances.He meant so much to so many different people in so many different ways as a son, a husband, a brother to some, a father and mentor to many and a friend to all. She enjoyed writing, animals, walks with her mother and daughter, traveling, and spending time with her family. Jessica was a big supporter of her family’s dreams and she was loved by many.

John David Ober, 82, of Atchison, KS, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born April 12, 1938 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Lawrence Sidney and Irene Griggs (Peacock) Ober. He served in the United States Army as a MP. John received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1974. He was a Police Officer earning the rank of Captain and retiring in 1985. John was also a farmer. He was a member of the Cole Camp Church in MO and then First Presbyterian Church, Atchison, KS. He enjoyed genealogy, coin and stamp collecting and boating on the lake.

John married Jean Marie Armstrong on April 12, 1959, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, David Craig and Molly Marie Ober, Atchison, KS, and a daughter, Dana Louise and Raymond Michael, Watts, Atchison, KS and three grandchildren, Michael “Dylan” Watts, David “Austin” Ober and Alexander John Ober.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rose Marie “Pobie” Shepherd, 99, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at her Home.

Rose was born on January 21, 1921 in St. Joseph, Missouri to John W. and Flossie M. (Mallory) Bally. She was a graduate of Benton High School and was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She was a former member of King Hill United Methodist Church and she enjoyed dancing at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center.

She married Enoch Lee Shepherd on September 21, 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Maxine Walden, son-in-law, Don Webster, one great-grandchild and three great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Roger Lee (Cheryl) Shepherd, Grapevine, Texas and Rebecca Sue Webster, St. Joseph, Missouri; five-grandchildren, Scott (Alesia) Shepherd, Nikki (Doug) Cook, Jill Shepherd, April (Marshall) Wyatt and Todd Webster; twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Malcomb D. “Mac” Barnes, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020.

He was born December 12, 1930 to Neal and Alma (Young) Barnes.

Mac married Barbara Ann Edwards October 5, 1963. She preceded him in death July 26, 2012.

Mac was a member of Hope United Church of Christ and former member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

He served as Staff Sgt. of the 9th AREFS, 9th BOMWG and was discharged February 8, 1955. Mac retired from TWA as an engine inspector in 1993 after 38 years of employment.

He enjoyed traveling, retirement, church activities, morning coffee with his retired friends and spending time with his family.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Earl “Buster” Limpp; and sister, Kaye White.

Survivors include children, Lisa Ann Stumpf (Steve), Clint Dee Barnes (Danielle); granddaughter, Rhiannon Nicole Vicari (Zach); brother-in-law, Jerry White; his beloved cat, Lilly; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews.

I decided I was done with the madness of 2020. On Sunday, September 20th @ 1:33am, I cleaned off the combine from 2019 harvest, fueled up the Scarab, hooked it up to my new truck, and headed out. I am not completely sure where I am going yet. I may stop by a few places on the way that I have always wanted to go. But you can count on seeing me on my dock at the lake, with an ice cold Silver Bullet in my hand, anytime you want to. I made sure to stop for a new bottle of bourbon and a cold chocolate milk for the drive. I was really happy that my boys Motley Crue came on the radio when I got on the highway—-you know I cranked it up! I’m sorry I left so quick and in a different way than we planned, but y’all know how to get here. I know it may take a while, but we will be all here one day. Guys, this place is freakin’ sweet.

Dad and Mom are taking care of the farm while I am gone, Shannon is taking care of the house, Nathan is mowing the pasture and my brother Bryan is making sure our land stays hunted. It may seem like I am away for a long time, tough stuff, but I know they got this. Don’t worry about me! The cooler is full, the Chiefs game is on, the sunset is beautiful, and the water is just right. I don’t want anyone to rush to join me, seems like y’all might miss me? I can’t wait to see you again, too! (insert my laugh here that you all think is so funny)

Chad Nold was the most loving husband and the epitome of a role model for his son. Chad Robert was every parent’s dream to raise and the brother that every man wished they had. Chad was the most driven, helpful, caring, and “all the fun” loving friend. There aren’t big enough words for how much he will be missed.

She was born April 27, 1932 to William and Thelma (Proffit) Simerly in Fillmore, Missouri.

Donna married Harold “Red” Van Meter January 20, 1951 in Palo Alto, California.

She was a waitress for more than 40 years at the D&amp;G Restaurant.

Donna lived her life to the fullest and helped others every chance she got.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Christopher DeSpain, brothers Leroy, Bud and Johnny Simerly; and sister, Lynn Vaughan.

Ernestine "Ernie" Evans, 74 of St. Joseph, passed away September 20, 2020. &nbsp;Ernie was born April 16, 1946, in Cheyenne WY to Elmer and Irene (Leach) Evans.

Prior to retirement she was a CST (Certified Surgical Technician) for St. Joseph Sister's Hospital.&nbsp; She helped design the surgical rooms for the new St. Joseph Hospital, which later became Heartland Hospital. She was very proud and dedicated to her career which she loved.&nbsp;

Ernie was of the Methodist faith.&nbsp; She was a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists.&nbsp; She loved spending time with family and friends and always had a smile on her face.&nbsp; She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and was a season ticket holder for over 20 years. &nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed playing bingo and playing the slots.&nbsp; Ernie loved the mountains and going on vacations.&nbsp; She enjoyed music, especially Elvis, and loved going to concerts.

Survivors include her adopted family, Jody Christie and daughters, Jenny Ward, &nbsp;Beth Christie (Kelsey), Becky Scheib &nbsp;(Chris); grandchildren, Chad, Jake (Lauren), Kenzie, Heather, Jackson, Sadie; &nbsp;great-grandson Carter; and other friends

She was preceded in death by her parents and her cousin Gwen.

Johnnie graduated from East Buchanan High School in May of 1980.&nbsp; He joined the MO Air National Guard at Rosecrans AFB after graduating in 1980.&nbsp; Upon completion of basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX, he returned to St. Joseph, MO and began work for the Quaker Oats Co.&nbsp; Johnnie spent 20 years with the Quaker Oats Co. until the plant closed in 2001.&nbsp; He went to work for WireCo of St. Joseph for the duration of his lifetime.&nbsp; He retired from MO Air National Guard after 30 years of service as a Tech Sergeant.&nbsp; Also, during his lifetime of work, he helped on the family farm near Gower, MO with.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Kieser; his mother Helen Kieser; and his brother J.W.Kieser.&nbsp; He is survived by his two children: John W. Mary S. Jones, 71, of Hiawatha, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday evening, September 19, 2020, at her home in Everest.

A Celebration of Mary’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home with Don Goatley officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Miller Cemetery, Everest.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mary Jones Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th&nbsp;St., 66434.

Mary was born at Marion, Kansas, October 15, 1948, one of three children born to William and Pauline Spachek Schmipf.&nbsp; Mary grew up at Marion where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1966.&nbsp; She went to Kansas State University where she studied and earned a Bachelor of Science degree.&nbsp; Her parents instilled in their children a good work ethic at a young age.&nbsp; That being said, Mary has worked since she was 16 years old, working part-time while attending school.&nbsp; She spent 35 years in Agra Business, 24 years of which with White Cloud Grain Co, retiring in 2014.

Mary was a born again Christian keeping her faith foremost, along with her family, and still found time to be a 4-H Leader, Sunday school teacher, Gideon’s International Auxiliary, and part of the ‘Classy Ladies”, they ate out together twice a month.&nbsp; She also made quilts for Quilts of Valor, an organization to honor the veterans.&nbsp; Her sister and Mary worked as a team:&nbsp; Mary would sew them and her sister would do the quilting.&nbsp; She also enjoyed sewing, quilting crocheting and reading.

A few of her noteworthy memories include watching her daughter grow to become a wonderful and caring adult.&nbsp; Mary also felt blessed to being close to her grandchildren.&nbsp; Important as well was meeting Roy, her husband, a kind, loving and good man and enjoyed the happy time they shared together.

She married Roy Jones, January 5, 2001 at the Calvary Temple in Hiawatha.&nbsp; They made Hiawatha their home where they each welcomed other’s children as their own.&nbsp; He died January 9, 2016.

Survivors include her daughter Pamela Scott (Corey) of Everest, step-children Barbara Rettele of Wetmore, Jannifer Mix (Mike) of Leavenworth, Steve Jones (Andrea) of Hiawatha; 2 grandchildren:&nbsp; Haley and Patrick Scott, with 9 step-grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Also surviving is a sister Cheryl Witt (John) of Mt. Vernon, KY, niece Cindy Ham (Tim), their children Alex and Emily, nephew Willy Witt (Michelle, and their son Ray.

Annabel Joan Jackson, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, went to live with her heavenly Father Saturday, September 19, 2020.

Joan was born November 29, 1929 to John and Marguerite Baier in Abilene, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Joan was united in marriage to Donald Jackson on January 31, 1950.&nbsp; They were married 70 years.&nbsp; She was a lifelong homemaker, mother, and co-owner of their family furniture businesses.

She is survived by her husband Donald and seven children; Bob (Monica), Mark (Janet), Kit Blake, Gail Eddins (Bill), Jamie (Jennifer), Miriam Nocks (Andy), Albert (Jennifer) and their 25 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She never missed their birthdays with a card!

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John and David Baier, sisters Rosemary McDonald, Dorothy Stroda and Louise Bowers&nbsp; and daughter-in-law Sabra Wood Jackson and son-in-law Geoffrey Allen Smith.

Joan enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family and friends and traveling with her husband.&nbsp; She was proud that all her children graduated from college.&nbsp; She was dedicated to helping her children grow in their love for God and neighbor and faithfully prayed for her family.&nbsp; She will be greatly missed.

June Marie Taylor, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020.

June was born in Stewartsville, Missouri, lived in Mound City, Kansas City and for the most part St. Joseph. She worked hard her entire life, waiting tables at some of the most memorable hometown restaurants (Bucket Shop, Wiedmaier’s), cooking for and serving students at MWSC cafeteria, and retiring from Heartland Hospital.

June loved people and considered herself an avid watcher. She loved country music (a picture of Tim McGraw was above her bed), Jeopardy, the color purple was her favorite and openly admitted to being a Chocaholic. June was a member of Patee Park Baptist Church in the years prior to moving to Senior Living.

June spent over 20 years at Carriage Square Health Care facility and considered it home. She spoke about many of the Healthcare providers as if they were family. The family is grateful for the care given to June over those years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Alice Carson; sister, Dorothy Carson; grandson, Rex Allen Jumps; and niece, Melanie Rudell.

June is survived by her children, Thomas Jumps, Janice Dougherty (Danny), Donnie Jumps (Pam), Debera Nichols (Troy Mills), Alice Taylor, Vickie Taylor; brother, Russell Carson (Carlyn); nephew, Gerry Carson (Sharon); niece Dianna Ness (David); thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

She was born October 20, 1992 in Maryville, Missouri, daughter of Melissa &amp; Stephen Peterman. She attended Benton High School, and she was working at Mosaic Life Care Hospital in the Dietary Department. She was enjoying her motherhood, and looking forward to the birth of her new son, Atticus. 

She is survived by father, Stephen (Cathy) Peterman, St.Joseph, mother, Melissa Peterman, Springfield, MO, son, Ellias Lee Pritchett, paternal grandparents: Bill and Susan Simpson, Saint Joseph, MO, maternal grandfather, Robert Bates, and half sister, Kelsey Corcoran. 

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday with Memorial Services following Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 7:00 pm at the Rupp Funeral Home. She will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Ellias Pritchett Scholarship Fund in care of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Edna Mae Jones Young Chilcoat, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020.

She was born August 27, 1927 to Edna Pearl (Weber) and Henry “Jake” Jones in Blair, Kansas.

Edna married Gerald “Jerry” Young in 1945. He preceded her in death. She remarried to L.H. “Chili” Chilcoat in 1985. He also preceded her in death.

She was a teacher and because of her determination to get an education so she could educate others, she attended school and college in the ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. During these years she also raised a family, helped raise four family members for a year who were in foster care, worked in the family business and had other outside jobs, including working in the Seattle shipyards at the age of 15.

Edna was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Jones; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jim Lawrence; sons, James, Harold and Danny Chilcoat.
