Mary Lynn Wiedmaier, 68, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Family and Home Instead caregivers remained with her throughout the final weeks of her courageous journey, granting her wish of home-care comfort and companionship with the tenderest love. She was born March 2, 1957 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Albert John Wiedmaier Jr. and Mary Catherine (Augustine) Wiedmaier.&nbsp;

Mary Lynn graduated from the high-school class of 1975 at Bishop LeBlond in Saint Joseph, Missouri and was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Missouri Western State University.&nbsp;

A long, successful professional career included her position as Regional Sales Representative with C.D. Smith and AmerisourceBergen, from which she retired. During retirement, Mary Lynn invited her mother to move into her home and became a full-time caregiver until Mary Kay passed in 2022. Mary Lynn’s unwavering devotion and steadfast spirit proved the role to be both a blessed calling and a priceless gift of the deepest love to her family.

As an avid Chiefs fan and season ticket holder for 35 years, Mary Lynn loved attending games at Arrowhead Stadium and watching football on TV. A crowning moment in her fandom was a trip to the 2020 Super Bowl for the Chiefs first championship in 50 years.

Mary Lynn also loved to travel with family during her down time—highlighted by memorable trips to Colorado, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Las Vegas, Seattle, Oregon, Arizona, Chicago, Florida, and Hawaii to celebrate her mom’s 80th birthday. A few of Mary Lynn’s other favorite things included cuddling with her three cats, Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, chocolate, potato chips, and a good margarita.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert Wiedmaier Jr. and Mary Catherine Wiedmaier; and grandparents Albert Wiedmaier Sr and Edna Wiedmaier, and Clemence and Mary Augustine.

Comforted by unforgettable memories, family members offer prayers of peace and expressions of the most loving gratitude to Mary Lynn, who is survived by her brothers AJ (Judy) Wiedmaier, and Rick Wiedmaier of St. Joseph, and Wes Wiedmaier of Lakewood, Colorado; nieces Melanie (Jason) North of Clark, Missouri, and Stacy (Josh) Nagai of Whittier, California; and her three kitties Fred, Ihop, and Blue.

The family wishes to thank the Home Instead and Mosaic Hospice teams who provided Mary Lynn with an exceptional level of care, allowing her to find peace and comfort at home with her beloved kitties.

A private family service for Mary will be held at Horigan Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery with Interment to follow.

Ricardo Santana, better known as Rico, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025.

He was born on December 19, 1960, to Nicholas Guzman and Josephine Martinez in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Rico enjoyed playing the guitar and the drums from time to time. He also had a deep love for drawing, TV shows and automobiles, alongside his passion for music.

His physical presence will be deeply missed by his brother, his cousin, and a host of extended family members and friends. They, along with all who knew him, will treasure their memories of Rico and honor his enduring spirit.

Ricardo “Rico” Santana 1960 - 2025

Kenneth Roy Bowland passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 12, 2025 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was 93 years old.

Born November 8, 1931 on the family farm in Maitland, Missouri, he was the youngest of nine children of Oye and Elsie (Prussman) Bowland.

Kenneth graduated from Mound City High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956, during the Korean War.

He married Rachel Miller January 16, 1954 and they were blessed with four children: Susan, Cynthia, Virginia and Wesley. Rachel preceded him in death October 18, 2001.

Kenneth was a Christian man who lived out his faith. He was a Bible student and a member of the Skidmore Christian Church where he frequently taught Bible study classes.

He lived most of his adult life on his farm near Skidmore, Missouri, farming and ranching. He was a cowboy at heart and enjoyed his horses and “cowboying” with his friends and neighbors.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his siblings, Alice Baxter, Lee Bowland, Lorene Davison, Maurice Bowland, Glenn Bowland, Lynn Bowland, Donna Mae Heck and Lucille Boswell.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Greg) Wilson, Cynthia (Mike) Wankum, Virginia (Ron) Jones and a son, Merritt Wesley (Jennifer) Bowland; grandchildren Brian Wilson, Justin (Susan) Wilson, Rachel Wankum, Leah (Steven) Spears, Marie (Jacob) Rine, Emilie (Ryan) Yates, and Samantha Bowland; great-grandchildren Luke, Eric and Alice Wilson; Emma and Mina Spears; Will Yates; and several nieces and nephews.

Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Thursday, Skidmore Christian Church. Interment Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.

Darlene “June” Grisham Kasprovich Kisker died on Friday, April 11, 2025. June was born February 5, 1936 to David and Anna Floreine (Anders) Grisham in Parkville, MO. 

June was a fraternal twin born at home with her sister Marlene “Jean” Grisham. The twins were so small they were placed in a dresser drawer and the room kept at a constant temperature of 95ᴼ. They survived to become strong women. June attended two rural schools, Hampton and Hazelwood. After 8th grade graduation, she transferred to West Platte High School and graduated in the Class of 1954. After graduation she attended a six-month course at the Kansas City Business College. In 1955 she was employed by Trans World Airlines (TWA) where she worked her way up through the ranks and retired as Manager of In-Flight Operations in 1988.While working at TWA she met Al Kasprovich and they were married on September 26, 1965. June was a proud stepmother to his daughter Phyllis, and aunt to many Kasprovich and Gac nieces and nephews. Al passed away of cancer in 1982.While attending a multi-year class reunion, she was reacquainted with Edward Kisker. 

They began dating and were married on August 23, 1986. June was again a proud aunt to many nieces and nephews. Ed unexpectedly passed away in 2001.June was a lifelong resident of Platte County Missouri. She had homes in the country, in Platte City, and finally settled in Weston where she resided these last 20 years. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she was in the Women’s Guild and volunteered for many “jobs” in the church. Her favorite job was to welcome new members by taking a basket to their home which she personally put together. June was a member of the Platte City Study Club for many years, as well as the TWA Clipped Wings Organization. She was interested in city politics and was appointed to the Weston Board of Zoning Adjustment. June also served on the Board of the Weston Senior Housing. She loved playing bridge and was involved in several bridge groups.

June loved spending time with 3 generations of her nieces &amp; nephews attending a multitude of birthday dinners, concerts, sports games and ceremonies.

She is survived by her twin sister Jean Robertson, nephew David Robertson and wife Robin; Niece Kim Kirby and husband David; nephew Philip Robertson and wife Stephanie. Her “greats” are David Troy Robertson, Andrea Martinkovic, Coy Kirby, Blake Robertson, and Ava Robertson. Her great-greats are Johnny Joe Jackson, Noah Martinkovic, and Trishelle Robertson. She had many other beloved family members including step-daughter Phyllis Arhberg and her family in Germany, and many nieces and nephews by marriage. June will be missed tremendously by hundreds of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Services will be held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 407 Cherry St., Weston, MO on Monday, April 21, 2025. 10 am Visitation and 11 am Funeral Mass. A private burial will follow.

A pillar of his community and a dedicated servant to his nation, George Fischer, DVM, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, in Saint Joseph, MO, at the remarkable age of 97. Born to Carl and Edith Fischer on August 18, 1927, in Garden City, MO, George lived a life marked by commitment, leadership, and a deep care for others.

On July 31, 1949, George married Doris (Schollmeyer) Fischer, and together they built a loving family with daughter Carla and son Carl.

Colonel Fischer’s distinguished career in the U.S. Army spanned decades and took him across five continents. From Texas (San Antonio, Houston, Camp Wolters) and Illinois (Chicago) to Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), Kansas (Ft. Leavenworth), Panama, and Germany, he served his country with honor. His year commanding the 144th Veterinary Corps in Vietnam showcased his leadership and dedication, earning him numerous accolades including the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars, the Defense Meritorious Service Superior Medal, and the Bronze Star.

A dedicated member of the Masonic fraternity for 75 years, George was a 33rd Degree Mason of Index # 54 AF &amp; AM. He was also an active member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, and the Shriner Moila Temple.

Following his father’s path, George earned his doctorate from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1954. He was proud to be a “vet” both as a military veteran and as a veterinarian. In recognition of his significant contributions to the veterinary profession, George was honored as the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association Veterinarian of the Year and Missourian of the Year in 2007. Demonstrating his lasting commitment to the field and support for future generations of veterinarians, he established The Carl and George Fischer Scholarship Fund for the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.

George was deeply engaged in his local community, serving on the Dekalb County road commission and on the ACCD 911 District since 1992, including multiple terms as Chairman. Known for his warm spirit and unwavering dedication, George was a cherished friend and considered family by many. He will be lovingly remembered as a dear friend, devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dedicated his life to serving others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Doris, and his sisters, Lucy and Ann.

George is survived by his daughter, Carla (Stephen) Stevens; his son, Carl Fredrick (Christine) Fischer; and his five grandchildren: Webb (Meredith) Stevens, Gene (Courtney) Stevens, Carly (Ramsey) Stevens, Paul (Jessica) Fischer, and Rosemary Fischer; his great-granddaughter, Ava Stevens; and his three nephews: Steven (Laura) Shifflet, Carl (Mary) Fugate, and Mike (Bonnie) Fugate.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Faith United Church, Saint Joseph, with inurnment to follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24th at Turner Funeral Home, Maysville.

George Franklin Fischer, DVM 1927 - 2025

Vandle (Van) A. Phillips, 89, of South Sioux City went to meet his Lord and Savior on Sunday April 13, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Van was born on October 07, 1935 in Lyons Nebraska to Vincent and Mary (Jensen) Phillips. He attended school and graduated from Lyons High school in 1954. He soon met and later married Doris Schneider on March 1, 1957. To this union was born three children.

Van played football at Norfolk Junior College and Wayne State where he graduated with a degree in Secondary Education. He received his master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and his Education Specialist degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Van began his career as a teacher and coach at Lohrville, Iowa and later in Missouri Valley, Iowa. His educational leadership journey started in Stanton, Nebraska and he returned to Missouri Valley as Superintendent of Schools until 1986, moving to South Sioux City as Superintendent of Schools until his retirement in 1999. Van was honored to receive the1994 Nebraska Superintendent of the year award. His lifelong work was dedicated to the educational enrichment of kids.

Van was a member of the Blue Lodge of South Sioux City, Abu Beker Shrine, Sunnybrook Community Church, Kiwanis Clubs of Missouri Valley and South Sioux City, Siouxland Antique Auto Club, and Vintage Wheels. He had been active in the South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of directors for Northeast Community College.

Van is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Lanny, and wife Doris. Survivors include: children, Dawnelle Rohde (Paul), Kristy Cunningham (John), and Brent Phillips (Jennifer). Grandsons: Phillip, Shane, and Colby Rohde, Nicholas and Vincent Phillips, Jack Cunningham and four great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday April 17, 2025, at 10:30 am Sunnybrook Community Church, Sioux City, followed by lunch, and 1:15 pm burial at Lyons City Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5-7 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Mohr &amp; Becker-Hunt Chapel, South Sioux City. Remembrance and Reflection Time at 6:30 followed by Masonic Service.

His educational leadership journey started in Stanton, Nebraska and he returned to Missouri Valley as Superintendent of Schools until 1986, moving to South Sioux City as Superintendent of Schools until his retirement in 1999. Van was honored to receive the1994 Nebraska Superintendent of the year award. His lifelong work was dedicated to the educational enrichment of kids.Van was a member of the Blue Lodge of South Sioux City, Abu Beker Shrine, Sunnybrook Community Church, Kiwanis Clubs of Missouri Valley and South Sioux City, Siouxland Antique Auto Club, and Vintage Wheels. He had been active in the South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of directors for Northeast Community College.Van is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Lanny, and wife Doris. Survivors include: children, Dawnelle Rohde (Paul), Kristy Cunningham (John), and Brent Phillips (Jennifer). John L. "Suthdog" Sutherland, age 60, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at KU Medical Center, after a yearlong bout with cancer. He left this world the way he lived in it, on his own terms. While his life span may have been less than average, there was nothing average about the way John lived his life.

Born March 23, 1965, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, John was the beloved only child of Elizabeth Rose and David Strout. From the beginning, he marched to his own beat.&nbsp;

He attended Central High School, Missouri Western, the University of Arizona, and the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. John's true education, however, came from the one and only Grandad Sutherland. &nbsp;Together John and Grandad traveled, hunted, fished, and feasted. &nbsp;Serving as his mentor, best friend and fellow adventurer, Grandad taught John how to live richly, with confidence, never accepting second best.

John spent his later years working at Phoenix Aerospace, the company founded by his grandfather. There, he served as an Operations Manager and Technician.

John was a connoisseur of both music and food. &nbsp;They were his true religions. He attended dozens of concerts, collected electric guitars, and even studied at the School of Rock in Los Angeles. &nbsp;As for cooking, John wasn't just a chef; he was a culinary artist. &nbsp;He studied under the some of the top world chefs and delighted in creating, for his friends and family, masterpiece meals and cocktails that are still fondly remembered.

His circle of friends was a rogue gallery of nonconformists. This circle bonded through shared highs, lows, and the kinds of stories better left off the record. These were the people who shared John’s appetite for fun, celebrations and extremes. &nbsp;Many a night lasted for days. In John's group of friends, the edge wasn't something to fear, it was where the fun started.

A heartfelt, eternal THANK YOU goes to Steven "Bubdog" Martinez, whose devotion and love during John's final season, defined true friendship. Steven was nurse, chauffeur, therapist, comic relief, and constant companion-always there, no questions asked, day or night. If sainthood could be earned in friendship, Steven would be canonized.

John was preceded in death by his son, Brent Rhyne, and his grandparents, William and Catherine Sutherland.

He leaves behind his loving mother, Elizabeth Rose, his devoted stepfather Herman Rose; grandson, Brayden Massengale; and a cast of friends who will miss his distinctive "Ahh" laugh, sharp wit, intense love for music, and the ability to make any gathering feel like a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Bill Tyer, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025.

He was born August 11, 1947 in St. Joseph to Marks and Thelma (Norris) Tyer. He grew up in Gower, where he was named an All-State tackle for Gower High School, from which he graduated. Bill attended St. Joseph Junior College for two years before transferring to the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and marketing.

Bill worked in the insurance industry most of his life, later owning his own agency in Raytown, Missouri, for many years before retiring and relocating to St. Joseph.

In his early years, Bill enjoyed bowling with his wife, Sharon, in league play. He loved to golf and putter around with his tools in the garage or yard. An outgoing guy, Bill loved to talk to people and loved to play cards at the monthly “Poker Club” meeting with his friends.

Above all else, family meant a lot to Bill. He enjoyed spending time with his son and grandchildren, especially talking about football. He was immensely proud of their achievements and creativity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Averil Janette Dunlap’ and nephew, Pat Dunlap.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sharon; son, Ryan Tyer (Becky); twin grandchildren, Anna and Ian Tyer; sister, Marcia Porter (Glen); nieces and nephews, Angela Sanborn (Barry), Mindy Porter, and William Dunlap, Brenda Hawkins Dunlap, and Tim Dunlap; numerous other extended family members and friends.

Andy was born on December 13, 1956, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Joseph J. Anderson and Mildred (Thompson) Anderson. He attended Doniphan Elementary, Troy Junior High and Troy High School.&nbsp;

Andy worked construction in Atchison, reconstructing homes and roofing and loved to spend time working on the farm. He spent countless hours volunteering his time to assist in the reconstruction of the Doniphan Oratory. He enjoyed nature, gardening, hunting and fishing and bird watching. He truly enjoyed spending time with and raising his dogs, Moses and Eli.&nbsp;

He is survived by his siblings, Joe R. Anderson (Jovita), Jerry Anderson (Charlotte), Lisa Smith (Tim); sister-in-law, Itsy Anderson; and his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Mike Anderson.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Monty Dale Phroper.

She retired in 2003 from American Family Insurance Company after working ten years for family guidance.

She enjoyed her family, fishing, and an occasional evening at the slot machines.

On October 9, 1999, she married David Archdekin and spent twenty five years together prior to her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Oliver.

Survivors include her husband David; son's Jacob Wyatt and Mat Thompson (Lindsay); daughter Heather Martinez (Simon); sister Dana Mabary; brother Edward Oliver; &nbsp;grandsons Devyn Catchpole, Chase Martinez, Austin Thompson; granddaughter Adalynn Thompson; great-granddaughter Isabell Catchpole.

Chester was born March 30, 1941 to Chester William and Minnie Ruth (Chapin) Freeborn at home near Horton, Kansas.

Chester graduated in 1959 at De Kalb, MO. R-IV High School. He lived with his mother and step-father Bobby Clover for many years while working in Saint Joseph, MO.

He worked for the H.D. Lee Company from 1960 to 1966 as a material handler. In September of 1966 he left Lee Company to attend Southwest Baptist University Bolivar, Mo. In 1970 he graduated with a BA degree in English and understudies in Psychology, Sociology and History.

January 1971 Chester was employed with St. Joseph State Hospital as a Psychiatric Aide. After a back injury he changed positions to Clerk II until he retired.

Chester lived his retirement days on a farm with his youngest sister and brother in law near Amazonia, MO. Where he collected books, radios, various music albums and CDs. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by 4 sisters Norma Wenger of Houston, Texas; Helen Davis of Atchison, Kansas; Lois Widner of St. Joseph, Mo; Carol Simpson (Ron) of Amazonia, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Alice Katherine Terry, 96, formerly of Hoyt, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at home in Topeka.&nbsp;

She was born September 19, 1928 at Ashtown, Arkansas, the daughter of L.D and Sarah Alice Weims Grice. She was a member of the Christian faith.

Alice was a cook all of her life. She cooked and managed the Country Inn in Topeka, and later did the same at Sutton’s Grocery and J.M. Bauersfeld. She later cooked and managed the Waterfall Restaurant in Holton.

She married Steve Terry, Jr. on June 4, 1949 in Ashtown, AR. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on January 15, 2001.

Alice was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Tommy Terry and David Terry, who was stillborn, a daughter, Debra Lyn Langley, and all her siblings.

Survivors include a son, Tony Terry (Carolyn), Plainville, a daughter, Beverly “Jo” Flowers (Al), Topeka, eleven grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Cremation will follow the service with later inurnment in the Hoyt Cemetery. Alice will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Maysville, Missouri….Michelle Amber (Thomas) Ballman, age 23, passed away on April 9, 2025. She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on December 15, 2001, the daughter of Jerry and Sharon Thomas of Maysville.

Michelle and Sebastian Ballman were united in marriage on August 31, 2019 in Palhatton, Kansas. They were blessed with two children who survive of the home.

Michelle was a wonderful wife and mother who loved her family immensely. She had a huge heart and always put others above herself. She enjoyed electronics to which she was very knowledgable.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Cleda Thomas and her maternal grandmother, Anita Blythe.

Survivors include her husband, Sebastian; children, Nico and Topanga; parents, Jerry and Sharon Thomas; sister, Shelbie Thomas; niece, Ashlynn First; and numerous other family and friends.

Michelle Amber Ballman 2001 - 2025

Ann Thomson Judge, of Weston, Florida, formerly of Atchison, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, at the age of 75.

Born on March 29, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, Ann was the beloved daughter of Ralph and Jane Thomson and the cherished granddaughter of Emma Budke. She grew up with her brother, James Thomson (Kathy), who now resides in Richmond Heights, Missouri. Ann attended Ursuline Academy (1968) in St. Louis, Missouri and Benedictine College (1972) in Atchison, Kansas.

She was a devoted wife of 52 years to Thomas Judge, loving mother to Rebecca Finnegan (Michael) and Katie Judge (Hank), and proud grandmother to Emma, Jack, Jase, and Jude Finnegan. Ann found immense joy in attending and hearing about her grandchildren’s sports events, spending time in the classroom with Katie, and traveling back to Atchison to visit with friends and family.

Ann also enjoyed praying the rosary, reading, shopping, talking on the phone and catching up with friends over lunch. Her kindness, determination, and deep love for those around her will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Ann dedicated her life to education and family. A retired teacher, she touched countless lives during her years at St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Davie, FL, and Nativity Catholic School in Brandon, FL. Her passion for learning, commitment to her students, and strong but nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on her school communities.

In keeping with her generous spirit, Ann chose to donate her body to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to contribute to future medical research and education. No services have been scheduled at this time.

Ann’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, students, and all who were lucky enough to share in her life.

Derrick "Rick" A. Koelliker, 54, of St. Joseph, Missouri; passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 9, 2025, at his home.

Rick was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Terry and Joyce (Moden) Koelliker. He graduated from Wathena High School in Wathena, Kansas. Most recently worked as a cashier for Churches Chicken in St. Joseph, Missouri, and previously at Jerry Anne's as a cook.

Rick enjoyed singing karaoke, going to the casino, working with his friends, and spending time with his friends and family.&nbsp;

Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Koelliker. Survivors include: his father; Terry (Diana) Koelliker, Brothers; Dallas Koelliker and David Harrison, Sisters; Carla Koelliker and Mellony Rucas. Along with numerous nieces and nephews: Heather &amp; Chase Koelliker, Kelsey White, Wesley White, Holden White, Jason Rucas, Justin Rucas, and Wendy Rucas.&nbsp;

Charles passed away April 10th, 2025. He was born May 11th, 1930 in Rosendale, MO. He was raised in Savannah, MO, but spent most of his life in St. Joseph, Mo. He served in the army during the Korean conflict. He was employed at Gerber Baby Goods and later retired from U.S. Postal Service after 31 years as a clerk.

He was proceeded in death by Parents Marion Henry Pryor and Minnie (Cobb) Pryor; &nbsp;wife Mary Ann (Cole) Pryor; three brothers Bob, Virgil, and Bill; and two sisters Vernita Wilson and Delores Pasley.

He is survived by one brother Ron Pryor and one sister Donna Eads. He is also survived by one daughter Laura Allen and two sons Charles Wayne and Roger. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Everett Chapman, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025.

He was born September 22, 1935 in Long Lane, Missouri to Pearl and Maudie Chapman.

He worked as a machinist at Seitz for 45 years.

Everett enjoyed spending time in his workshop and gardening.

Merlin “Gus” Baker, 92, of Kansas City, MO passed away, April 7, 2025.

He was born on May 1, 1932 to Loyd and Marie (Smith) Baker in Martinsville, MO. Gus grew up in Harrison County, MO graduated from New Hampton High School. He then served his county in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

On October 5, 1957 he was united in marriage to Patsy Jane Howard. After their marriage they lived in Maryville while Gus completed his bachelor’s degree in mathematics. In 1960 they moved to Kansas City where they made their home. Gus later received his master’s in mathematics and physics from the University of Illinois.

Gus was a Math Teacher in the NKC School System. The majority of his career was spent at Oak Park High School from 1965 until 1989 where he was also the golf coach. He also taught at Maple Woods Community College for many years.

He was a member of the Paradise United Methodist Church. Gus was an avid golfer and loved to read. He could also bake a wonderful cinnamon roll.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel (Winnie) Baker, Leola (Duane) Bartlett, Bill (Leona) Baker, Donnie (Loretta) Baker, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob Hatton, Dwight (Helen) Howard, Duane (Martha) Howard, Barbara (Emmett) DuBois, and Martha Nelle (Jesse Alan) Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Patty; children, Howard (Barb) Baker, Patrick (Mary Kay) Baker, and Nina (Kevin) Thiessen; grandchildren, Austin (Aubri) Baker, Stephen (Emily) Baker, Scott (Ayla) Baker, Anna (Daniel) Morales, and Miranda (Robert) Haftl; great-grandchildren, Evan ,Nicholas, and Eric; siblings, Harold (Linda) Baker, Norma (Leroy) Beck, and Letha Hatton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn (Ernest) Mosby; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Suzanne was born on February 8, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri to the late William and Caroline (Lowe) Letts. She was a 1961 graduate of Central High School. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Mrs. Harris worked as a dental hygienist and was owner of JAKS Trophy Room.

Susie was a member of Brookdale Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and being with and loving on her family and friends.
