Nils E. Anderson, age 63, died at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden 
City, Kansas on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.&nbsp; He was born on February 18, 
1957 in Atchison, KS,&nbsp; the son of Carol Nelson and Faye Ellen Beisner 
Anderson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nils attended Russell and Garden City Schools.&nbsp; He was a member of 
the Methodist Church. He worked at Garden City Community College as the 
head dishwasher for 25 years.&nbsp; Nils was a member of the Happy Valentines
 4-H Club, the Special Olympics, Boy Scouts, and attended&nbsp; summer camp 
many summers at Camp White of Council Grove, Kansas.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
bowling, watching movies, walking the Talley Trail, swimming in the Big 
Pool, Lee Richardson Zoo, and attending Garden City Community College 
athletic events.&nbsp; He also loved singing, listening to and conducting 
music and going to the Kwik Shop for his daily pop.&nbsp; He loved to eat out
 - especially the Pizza Hut.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include siblings Mark Anderson (Susan) of Bellevue, 
Washington, Chuck Anderson of Naples, Florida, Kristin Anderson of 
Garden City, Kansas and nephews Matt Anderson of San Francisco, 
California, Chris Anderson and Grant Anderson of Chicago, Illinois, and 
Zach Anderson of Garden City, Kansas; also special aunt Lou and uncle 
Rod Hoover of Topeka, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his father, and succeeded in death by his
 brother Jerry Anderson (Bennie Young) of Broomfield, CO and his mother.

The memorial service for Nils, Jerry, and Faye Ellen Anderson will be
 held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 2 pm at First United Methodist 
Church in Garden City, Kansas.

William L. Edds passed away on June 28, 2021 in Topeka.

Bill was born on August 13, 1947 in Horton, KS and grew up in Hiawatha, KS. Bill was the loving husband to Mary Edds.&nbsp; Bill and Mary were high school sweethearts and they shared an incredible life together which revolved around their son, Geoffrey Edds, daughter in-law Meghan Edds and grandkids Samantha, Griffin and Gannon.

&nbsp;Bill loved and missed his parents Albert and Thelma Edds every day. Bill has one sister who he loved so much, Marjorie Schrader of Billings, MT. Bill loved his in-laws, Harlan and Betty Buehler and sister-in-law’s, Barbara Mitchel and Janet Mendez. Bill had many nieces and nephews that meant the world to him. Bill was a KU and Washburn Law graduate. Bill was an accomplished attorney.

&nbsp;He worked for the State of Kansas his entire career. After his retirement he helped so many with free legal and income tax services. Bill loved life! Sports, Music, The Beatles and Guster were his jam. Bill was a world traveler, loved to read, worked out every day and was a heck of an athlete in his day, the self-proclaimed RBI leader for his longtime ball team, Brosius and Slattery.

His softball buddies turned in to family for Bill, Mary and Geoff. So many Bill stories and memories.. Bill was known to go after a foul ball and come back to the dugout with a six-pack of Bud. True story! Rebel, life of the party, friend to all, intelligent, that was Bill. Everyone loved Bill and he loved all. We are sad to say goodbye to this man, but we find peace knowing he is now our guardian angel in heaven. This is what he was best at, taking care of his family.

There will be no funeral service so please grab your favorite beverage and raise a toast to Bill Edds.

Betty June Helton, 83, of Easton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

She was born December 26, 1937 in St. Joseph, daughter of Mary and Leroy Filley. Betty attended Lafayette High School. She married Richard Helton on January 11, 1969. Betty enjoyed bowling, going to the casino, traveling and most of all, being with her family. She was an animal lover and was very giving, always putting others first. 

Betty was preceded in death her parents, son, Roy Walker , Jr. and sisters, Mary, Patricia and Dorothy. 

Survivors include, husband, Richard Helton, Sr. of the home, children, Richard Helton, Jr. of St. Joseph, Shelly (Tony) Trauernicht of St. Joseph, Rhonda Walker of Helena, MO, Brian Walker of Binghamton, NY and Eric Walker of St. Joseph, and 8 grandchildren.

Betty has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff Pickerel officiating. James William Arthur “Jim” Simerly, 50, of Savannah, Missouri passed away Monday, June 28, 2021.&nbsp;

Jim was born on April 22, 1971 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Glenda (Abbett) Simerly.&nbsp;

He was a member of the Christ Church of St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp;

Jim married Lisa Morey on September 16, 1995 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She survives of the home.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his mother, Glenda Simerly, grandparents, Bill and Francis Abbett and uncle, Ronnie Abbett.&nbsp;

Avery Charles Steward, 29, of Hiawatha passed away too soon on Sunday morning June 27, 2021. Avery was born June 2, 1992 at Sabetha Community Hospital, the youngest son of Milton &amp; Roberta (Grier) Steward. Avery lived most of his life in Hiawatha, KS while attending schools, graduating High School in the class of 2010. While in school, Avery participated in choir, track &amp; field, and was part of a bowling league for many years. He was elected the Prom King his senior year. After HS he went on to Coffeyville Community College where he spent a year on the football team. Avery had such a beautiful &amp; nurturing soul, he always felt like he needed to help others before helping himself. He enjoyed being with family, spending time with a host of friends, loved to share his beautiful voice through song, and was always ready to jam out with family &amp; friends by playing the drums at church and other locations. He felt the best way to express oneself was through the gift of music. Avery had a smile that would light up a room, and the ability to make anyone laugh until their sides hurt. The life of Avery will forever be cherished by a countless amount of loved ones. Surviving are his parents, Milton &amp; Roberta of Hiawatha, a brother DeRon Steward of Hiawatha &amp; sister Sara (Phil) Roberts of Baileyville, KS. 4 nieces &amp; 1 nephew: Ciera (Ben) Hastings of Mesquite, TX, Sophia &amp; Skylar Steward of Hiawatha, Cecilia &amp; Houston Roberts of Baileyville, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles &amp; Louanna (Sanders) Grier, paternal grandparents Harry &amp; Rose (Logan) Stevens, as well as his older brother Sean Steward. She was born September 19, 1975 in Wood River, IL, daughter of Lydia and Lyle Bowen. She graduated from Atchison High School, class of 1995, and she was currently working at Daily's Meat in St. Joseph. Jewels was a fun spirited person, and she enjoyed taking care of others. 

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ashton Schuele, mother, Lydia Bowen, and brother, Lyle Bowen, Jr. &nbsp;

Wesley Dean Lile, 90, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021.

Wesley was born June 21, 1931 in New Boston, MO to Leonard and Ellen Lile.&nbsp;&nbsp; He served in the Korean War.&nbsp; Wesley and his wife Patsy were married for nearly 70 years.

Wesley is survived by his wife Patsy, son Greg (Nancy), daughter Vicki (Robert), brother Darrell (Francie), sister Clara, brother-in-law Farrell (Nancy), grandchildren; Patrick Lile (Sara), Allison Lile Johnston (Matt), Shanon Byous (Ryan), Robbie Stubbs, great grandchildren Tyson, Emery, Truman and Weston Lile, Marley and Ryker Johnston, Jarrod Byous (Courtney), Nathan Byous (Cydney), Meghan Byous, Aidan and Darion Stubbs, great great grandchildren; Henry and Mary Byous.&nbsp;

Wesley D. Lile  1931 - 2021

Danielle Elizabeth Means-Polachek (36) of St. Joseph, MO passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2021.

Danielle was born on January 25, 1985, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Dan and Mary (Carter) Means.

A 2003 graduate of Lafayette High School. She proudly served her country for 16 years in the Missouri Air National Guard as a Master Sergeant.

Charlene J. Horn, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021.

She was born September 12, 1934 to Harry and Lily (Noland) Hendrix in St. Joseph, Missouri.

On June 1, 1957 Charlene married Jackie Lee Horn. He preceded her in death, after 57 years of marriage, on June 15, 2014.

She was a 1952 graduate of Benton High School. Through the years she enjoyed participating in all their reunions and later, meeting for monthly lunch with fellow graduates.

Charlene will be remembered as a spitfire that enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and keeping score at every one of her kids’ little league games. Later in life, she began traveling. Last fall she took her last trip to see the ocean for the very first time.

She was preceded in death by her father; mother; step-father, Loren F. Martin; infant daughter, Stacie Ann; and sister, Patricia Chambers. Survivors include sons, John, Kevin (Teresa), and Greg (Lisa); daughter, Jacque Banks; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gwen Hendrix and Brenda Judd; nieces and nephews.

Janet Ruhlene (Scott) &nbsp;Steinman, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 surrounded by her family.&nbsp; &nbsp;Janet was born July 19, 1932 in Darlington, MO to&nbsp; Leola (Roy) and Charles Scott.&nbsp; She was raised primarily by her maternal grandparents, May and C.M. Roy of Darlington.

Ruhlene graduated from Albany, MO High School in 1950.

On July 29, 1951, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Eldon Max Steinman in Albany.&nbsp; They had close to 60 years of wedded bliss.

They enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home.&nbsp; They also wintered in Texas for years.

She was a past Pre-School President at Pershing Elementary School and past Co-President at Robidoux Middle School .

Ruhlene was a member of Areme Chapter #461, Order of Eastern Star for 50 years and a member of Community Presbyterian Church.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her husband Eldon on June 21, 2011, her mother Leola Gillespie, grandparents May and C.M. Roy, a brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Virginia Scott, nephew Jeff Scott,&nbsp; and granddaughter Nicole Lynne Marriott McCleish.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include daughter Charis Marriott (Carl) of Kansas City, MO, son Gregory Steinman of St. Joseph, granddaughter Heather Marriott Lavely (Jason) of Maple Grove, MN, great-granddaughter Teagan Lavely, brother-in-laws, sister -in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by mother, Nettie Simpson, Amazonia, MO, sons, Daniel (Emily) Brown, Osborn, MO, and Shane Sheely, Fresno, CA, brothers, Darrin Johnson and William (Amy) Johnson both of Amazonia, MO. 

He will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Tommy Wayne Pahmahmie, 56, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021.

He was born November 8, 1964 in Holton, Kansas to Tom and Jospehine (Mzhickteno) Pahmahmie.

Tommy enjoyed hunting and fishing, using those resources to live his life the way he wanted. He was a former member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi, and a current member of the Drum Religion.

He was a friendly, caring, outgoing man who never knew a stranger. Tommy will always be remembered as the fun uncle. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Johnny Lee Pahmahmie; niece, Amber Pahmahmie; and nephew, Matthew Pahmahmie.

Survivors include daughter, Patricia Mary Pahmahmie Snow (James); brothers, George (Mary) and Albert Mahkuk; sisters, Delores and Debra Mahkuk; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime case worker, Sheila Mendez.

A traditional supper will be held at a later date at the Kickapoo Community Building, with burial to follow the next day at Dance Grounds Cemetery, Mayetta, Kansas. The family requests masks and social distancing be observed.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Charles Steven Turner 72, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday June 18, 2021 at home, in Saint Joseph. 

He was born January 31, 1949 in St Joseph, Missouri son of the late Bernice &amp; Royal Turner. He graduated from Stewartsville High School, and served in the National Guard for  6 years. Charles was a very talented Brick Layer working in the St. Joseph and Kansas City Areas. He loved to sing and had a great voice. Charlie loved his animals and had a wonderful sense of humor. He always made us laugh. 

 Survivors include: sons, Shane Turner, Phoenix, AZ, and Heath Turner, Grain Valley, MO, grandchildren, Sidney, Mallory, Chase &amp; Cole Turner, daughter, Sheila Turner Awad, of Tampa FL , grandchildren Summer, Samantha, John and Joseph Awad, brothers, R.T. (Karen) Turner St. Joseph, Donald (Sue) Turner, Fillmore, MO, and Byron "Pierre" Sample of Kansas City, MO., sisters, Linda Wilson, Savannah, MO, and Norma (Lee) Wandfluh of Fillmore.

Charles Turner  1949 - 2021

Delicia (Dee) June Dixon (Bartholomew) age 86, June 10th&nbsp;1935 – June 22nd&nbsp;2021

Daughter of Florence Margretta Nightingale Shaver and Earl Willis Bartholomew. She was born in Alexandria Minnesota. Early in her life she suffered from an accident that caused her to lose vision in her left eye, resulting in an extended hospital stay. &nbsp;Despite this challenge she was able to live a full life. The family grew up on a farm with an attached orchard. What they lacked financially, was more than compensated for with the love they had for each other.

Dee was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1947. She loved school and worked hard to excel in all her classes. Once she saved up enough money, she moved to Provo, Utah and enrolled in Brigham Young University. While living in Utah she met and married her first husband in 1960. Through that marriage, she was blessed with two daughters Carolyn (Jim) Raue and Donna (Don) Goodman.

During her lifetime she worked in many occupations. She loved telling stories about when she and her sister Claire worked together at a movie theatre. Dee served in many church callings, including as a primary teacher, chorister, Sunday School secretary, Relief Society home making leader and a was a diligent visiting teacher. When it become difficult for her to walk and get out, she continued to serve by writing cards and making phone calls to brighten the lives of others.

In 1994, she was sealed to Glen Dixon in the Ogden, Utah temple. With that marriage she gained two sons, Rodney and Randy (Merilee) and a daughter, Fay Lynn (Mark) Baron. Dee and Glenn had many enjoyable adventures together. Having retired to Arizona, they spent a lot of time camping and exploring the beautiful nearby parks. They loved serving in the church together in the St. George Temple and the Family History Center. Glen was a tremendous support to her during many of her health problems. She referred to him as one of her earth angels in her journal.

Dee was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren. She was always at her happiest when she was spending time with her beloved family. She especially loved holding and cuddling each baby that was born into the family.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ralph (Gloria) Bartholomew and two sisters, Peggy (Dick) Jalbert and Claire (DeVon) Hammer.

She is survived by her husband, Glen Dixon and the children mentioned above, along with two sisters, Betty (Ray) Lohse, Jean Keller and two brothers, Earl (Alice) and John (Becky) Bartholomew.

With that marriage she gained two sons, Rodney and Randy (Merilee) and a daughter, Fay Lynn (Mark) Baron. Dee and Glenn had many enjoyable adventures together. Having retired to Arizona, they spent a lot of time camping and exploring the beautiful nearby parks. They loved serving in the church together in the St. George Temple and the Family History Center. Glen was a tremendous support to her during many of her health problems. She referred to him as one of her earth angels in her journal.Dee was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren. She was always at her happiest when she was spending time with her beloved family. She especially loved holding and cuddling each baby that was born into the family.Dee was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ralph (Gloria) Bartholomew and two sisters, Peggy (Dick) Jalbert and Claire (DeVon) Hammer.She is survived by her husband, Glen Dixon and the children mentioned above, along with two sisters, Betty (Ray) Lohse, Jean Keller and two brothers, Earl (Alice) and John (Becky) Bartholomew.<figure>

Ernest L. Williams, Sr., 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021.

He was born May 31, 1928 in Halls, Missouri to Benton and Bertha (McCoy) Williams.

Ernest married Barbara Ann Norris on September 3, 1949. She preceded him in death January 16, 2000.

He retired from the St. Joseph Stockyards in 1993 after 50 years of employment.

Ernest helped many people and was a very giving and modest man. He was dedicated to his family and was a hero to all his grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Timothy Ray Williams, Gary Lee Williams; parents; numerous brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his children, Shirley Bowden, Joyce Stewart, Danny Williams (Angela), Sherry Williams, Terry Williams (Kathy), Karen Williams (John), Ernest Leroy Williams, Jr. (Lori), Kim Renee Recob (Jon); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Teresa McDowell, 55, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care. 

She was born August 10, 1965 in Cameron, MO, daughter of Patricia Eaton and James Caldwell. She graduated from Benton High School, class of 1983. She married Gregory McDowell on August 16, 1985. She enjoyed throwing papers with her friend Tena, spending time with her grand babies, going to the farm and the casino. She was very social and especially loved spending time with family. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church where she was involved in youth programs, the women's group and several other missions. 

Teresa was preceded in death by mother, Patricia Mace and husband, Gregory McDowell. 

Survivors include, father and step-mother, James and Nancy Caldwell of Winston, MO, children, Megan and Chad McDowell of St. Joseph, grandchildren Treveon, Montie and Emika, sister, Angel (Allen) Rhoades of Winston, MO, brothers, Jimmy (Ronda) Caldwell of Winston, MO, Joseph Caldwell of St. Joseph and Jeff Mace of Kansas City, MO, sister in laws, Brenda, Linda, Rhonda, Karen and Charmin, step-brother, Terry Stucky, dear friend, Tena Herring of St. Joseph, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other extended family, all who loved her.

Teresa Jane McDowell  1965 - 2021

On Monday June 21,2021 our beloved sister, Penny M Litton, went to spend her eternity in Fiji with a million dollars. It was her lifelong dream. 

Penny was born March 3, 1961 to Bonnie (Litton) Cole and Fred Litton, both of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her were ever loving grandparents Henry and Myrtle Harbison and her beloved Jaguar XJ-7. 

She is survived by her loving son Norman Ivins Jr, beautiful Princess granddaughter Jade Ivins, brothers Mike Litton and Dan Cole, sisters Jean Ann Litton-Pierce (John Elliott) Gerri Cole-Tracy, Bobbie Cole-Harrison (Zachary Wilson), numerous half siblings and countless “extra” kids who claimed her as their second mom.

Penny spent many years working at Triumph Foods in St Joseph on the maintenance team. She never really liked the job, but she loved the people too much to give it up. She earned her Boiler Operator’s License and was very rightfully proud of that accomplishment, we all were.

She had a strong passion for gardening beautiful flowers. Her back yard was like a well-manicured landscape of a museum. And she was quite fond of cleaning house for Mrs. Miller and her neighbor, Beverly. She talked of them often until the end.

As a teen, Penny was a member of the Order of The Rainbow Girls, Harmony Assembly # 79. Tradition was rich in Rainbow Girls, which only strengthened her commitment to tradition at home.

Penny was always such a loving person; her heart just couldn’t hold another drop of love. Somehow it tried, and just didn’t make it, her heart stopped. But even after losing her own life, Penny is still helping others. She donated her organs and tissues in order to save lives and sight for others, just like Penny. Part of that donation was skin from her backside; we think she found a way for the world to kiss her behind.

A one hour memorial visitation will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Daniel Edwin Hill, born in Los Angeles, husband of the late Mary Lou Parcels Hill of Hiawatha, Kansas, former WW II Army Air Corps flight instructor and USFS Ranger, retired biology teacher of 22 years, passed away on May 24, 2021, at age 97. 

Son of the late Emily Mumford Hill Cole and Paul Foster Hill, he is survived by his daughter, Mary Blackford (Bill); son, Chris Hill (Rhonda); daughter Jennifer Hill; niece Jodie Fisher; nephew Dana Fisher; and grandchildren Rose Blackford and Cable Blackford.

Roger O'Banion 70, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021 at his home. 

He was born January 28, 1951 in Garden City, MO, son of Arvelma and Oren "Buddy" O'Banion. He graduated from South Nodaway High School, and he &nbsp;served in the U.S. Air Force. 

Roger was preceded in death by son, Preston "Pete" O'Banion, and his parents. 

Survivors include: children, Heather O'Banion of Utah, Luke O'Banion, Trever O'Banion, Travis O'Banion, and Bridget O'Banion, all of St. Joseph.

Patricia "Pat" Ann Murray went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2021, with her daughter by her side.

&nbsp;Pat was born on October 28, 1942 in Atchison, KS to Doris Wilson. She was preceded by a son, Dion Murray; brothers Donald Wilson and Bobby Wilson.

Pat was a big-hearted animal lover. She carried treats for her doggie neighbors and enjoyed watching the squirrels in her courtyard. Her greatest joy was being a loving grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacey (Jason) Park and grandchildren Anna, Henry and Laurel, all of Hamel, Minnesota.

Beverly Cohen, 98, St. Joseph, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at home with her loving family.

She was born in St. Joseph to Philip and Yetta Burnstein and spent much of her youth in the family bakery, Burnstein’s Bakery. She grew up in a religious family and was active at her synagogue for her entire life in many different ways. She is best remembered for volunteering her beautiful voice to the synagogue choir.

She married her true love, Sidney, on February 17, 1946. Together they sang their way through life, entertaining many with their talents and love.

Their love for each other was only outweighed by their love for their family.

Beverly was a woman who was constantly thinking of others and was a true woman of valor. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Yetta Burnstein; brothers, Leo, Irvin, and Arnold; and her beloved husband, Sidney. Survivors: daughters, Karen Bronston (Scott) and Sandy Rosenak (Steven); grandchildren, Scott Rosenthal, Lainie Kirsch, Shayna Rosenak, Spencer Rosenak, and Rachel Wirth; six great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
