ANDREW COUNTY—A Missouri man was injured in an accident just after 10p.m. Thursday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Chevy K3500 driven by Eldon L. Schneider, 82, King City, was eastbound on Route E two miles east of Savannah.&nbsp;

The vehicle traveled off the south side of the road, across a private drive, went airborne, struck trees and a rock ledge. Andrew County EMS transported Schneider to Mosaic Life Care. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

ANDREW COUNTY—A Buchanan County woman was injured in an accident just after 4p.m. Thursday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2022 Dodge passenger vehicle was northbound on Interstate 29 one mile north of St. Joseph.

The vehicle rear-ended a 2011 Toyota SUV driven by Rebecca R. Stout, 37, Agency. 

Both vehicles continued northbound. The Dodge left the scene.&nbsp; Stout continued and drover herself to Mosaic Life Care for treatment of minor injuries. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Woman drives to hospital after vehicle fled rear-end crash

Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph will provide adults without a college degree with free career evaluations. &nbsp;

The evaluation will help people identify careers that best match their interests, as well as educational pathways to get there. &nbsp;

Director of the Missouri Western Career Development Center Jerri Arnold-Cook says these events are designed not for current students, but for people that haven't had the means or time to go to college.&nbsp;

"Maybe they don't have any interest in going back to school full time but they're living in our community and they could increase their earning potential and they could perhaps find a little bit more of a rewarding job than the one they're in," Arnold-Cook tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "Is it better aligned with their skills and abilities."&nbsp;

The career evaluations will open up educational opportunities for people to enroll in one of five micro-credentials.&nbsp; Each course ranges from nine to 14 credit hours.&nbsp;

Arnold-Cook says each micro-credential came from a major workforce need in the St. Joseph community.&nbsp;

"So, it wasn't just a bunch of academics sitting around in offices saying we should just do this it sounds good there's actually a need for people with these skills in the St. Joe greater community area," Arnold-Cook explains. "So, it's really a workforce development initiative."&nbsp;

The micro-credentials include early childhood education, special education, and digital media among others. &nbsp;

It will also help them learn about how to increase potential earnings.&nbsp;

Arnold-Cook says the potential pay increase depends on what role the person is already in.&nbsp;

"We do have some roles in our community that are very highly paid," Arnold-Cook says. "So, recently I had a student who received an email to make like 25, 30 dollars an hour being a maintenance worker in a plant, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, that is great money."&nbsp;

But Arnold-Cook says if you want to pursue a job in Early Childhood Education, for example, this opportunity might help you find ways to get there. &nbsp;

There will be three Find My Path Days, the first two being held at Missouri Western today and next Tuesday July 19th from 1 - 4 pm. &nbsp;

The third event will be held Saturday August 13th from 1-4 pm at the Rolling Hills Library.&nbsp; Registration is required for all three events.&nbsp;

Aspiring artists have an opportunity to try their hand at
various art forms during classes offered by the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art
in St. Joseph.

Executive Director Eric Fuson says the museum doesn’t just
display art, it helps create it. Albrecht Kemper offers several classes this
summer for those hoping to refine their talent as well as those hoping to
discover a talent.

This Thursday afternoon as well as next Thursday, the museum
will offer Colored Pencil Happy Hour with Wanda Taylor from 5:30 to 7:30pm,
teaching how to draw with colored pencil in the relaxed atmosphere of the café and
bar.

Studio Basics and Beyond is taught by Alex Asher, held each Tuesday
afternoon from 3 to 5pm through August 16th. There is a charge of
$30 per session.

Fuson says this class allows artist wannabes to experiment. He
invites even the timid to give it a try.

“The group that comes to all these classes is very supportive,”
Fuson says. “So many of them have done something before at least and they know
what it’s like to start. They love to help each other out and it’s great to
look over across the room and say, ‘Ooh, how’d you do that?’ It’s a great way
to share.”

A painting workshop taught by Cody Wheelock will be
offered the 29th and 30th of this month. There is a
charge of $200 for both courses or $120 for one. Lunch is included.

Albrecht Kemper also plans an AKMA After Hours from 5 to 7pm
on July 26th, characterized as a free relaxing evening at the
museum.

St. Joseph Police and Fire are investigating a fire set on the YMCA playground in north St. Joseph. 

YMCA officials say they received calls late Tuesday evening that the playground next to the building at the North Village Shoppes was on fire. The St. Joseph Police and Fire Department responded.

Officials report only minor damage from the fire, limited to damage to a trash can and the xylophone on the playground.  The YMCA is currently working with insurance to assess the damage. The rest  of the playground is still open. 

The St. Joseph Police are currently investigating the incident.

Local
law enforcement officers made 34 traffic stops during a helicopter operation in
St. Joseph.

The
St. Joseph Police Department reports 40 officers from various agencies
participated in the operation Wednesday night that targeted fleeing vehicles.

The department
reports officers wrote 13 traffic citations or warnings, gave 17 verbal
warnings, and made 15 arrests. Officers served four city warrants and one state
warrant. Officers issued 15
investigative charges of resisting arrest, fugitive from out of state, unlawful
possession of a firearm, driving while revoked, driving while intoxicated,
possession of stolen property, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and
drug possession/distribution.

Seven vehicles fled during the
operation. Helicopter pilots successfully tracked four of the drivers, leading
to arrests. Three drivers are being sought.

The Buchanan County Drug Strike Force
and the Missouri Highway Patrol provided officers to help St. Joseph police
officers during the operation. The Andrew County Sheriff’s Office and the
Country Club Village Police Department assisted as support agencies.

A vehicle driven by Benjamin Woolston, Atchison, was westbound on the bridge and struck a stopped westbound vehicle at the 4th and U.S.59 traffic light, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

5-year-old injured after 3-vehicle Amelia Earhart Bridge crash

Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp is coming up quick, and the city of St. Joseph is already rolling out the red carpet.

The St. Joseph Visitors Center has been handing out 'Welcome Chiefs' signs Wednesday, starting at 11 a.m. and going until 6 p.m. or until supplies run out.

The signs are free. Visitor Center employee Bill Alexander says they saw a large number of people come get their signs as soon as they became available.

"It started real busy at 11 with a line out across the parking lot," Alexander said. "It's just been a steady flow ever since."

The Visitor Center started with 1,400 signs, and were down to about 450 just before 2 p.m. Alexander says 500 signs were gone within the first hour.

There is a limit of two signs per person. Alexander says the bright red 'Welcome Chiefs' signs are a staple of training camp, and he believes they make the coaches and players feel welcome.

"I think (the Chiefs) are all glad to drive down the street and see all of the Chiefs signs out and the red shirts and everything in town," he said.

If there are any signs left over after 6 p.m. Wednesday, people can still stop by and pick them up at the Visitor Center until they're gone.

Later this month, the City of St. Joseph will host the 'Red Rally' in Civic Center Park to officially welcome the Chiefs to the city.

The Red Rally will be July 29th from 2-7 p.m. with&nbsp;live music, inflatables, food trucks and more.

Country music artist Blane Howard will take the stage at 4:45 p.m., followed by the voice of the Chiefs Mitch Holthus, KC Wolf, Chiefs cheerleaders and Rumble Drumline at 6 p.m.

The city will announce the headline entertainer for the Red Rally coming up this Friday. This marks the 12th year of Chiefs training camp in St. Joseph.

Welcome Chiefs! signs handed out in St. Joseph Wednesday as training camp nears

A bill that would have extended agricultural tax credits for
the next two years as well as create new ag tax credits has been vetoed by Gov.
Mike Parson.

Parson says he will call lawmakers back to Jefferson City for
a special legislative session later this year to extend the tax credits for six
years, arguing a two-year extension doesn’t allow enough time for the credits
to be effective.

Parson, in his veto statement, called the two-year extension
problematic, “Applicants often need a minimum 24 months in order to secure the
equity and private investment needed for projects. When a program is only
guaranteed for a partial period of a projects (sic) development, businesses are
less likely to invest.”

“We must extend these key agriculture tax credits for a
minimum of six years,” Parson said in his veto statement of HB 1720.

Sen. Dan Hegeman of Cosby, Senate Appropriations Committee
chair, says sponsors settled for what they could get this past session.

“I would have been in favor at the time of a six-year
extension as well, but two seemed to be what we could get at the time,” Hegeman
tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “So, I was supportive of that, but I understand
where the governor is coming from.”

Hegeman says sponsors had to settle for two years during a
session that made passage of bills difficult. Hegeman says the governor is
counting on changing minds to remove obstacles to a six-year extension.

“Well, certainly, that’s the hope and the desire is that
senators that had a reluctance of doing it will come along and see the need to
be able to move the program forward and see the need to have that six-year
extension, rather than a two-year extension,” Hegeman says.

Hegeman says if the governor can broker a consensus among
lawmakers, a special session shouldn’t take much time.

“A lot of times, if things are worked out ahead of time you
can knock these special sessions out in like three or four days,” according to
Hegeman. “It could take up to a week. Hopefully, it’ll just maybe take just
three to four days if we’re able to move forward on this.”

The governor also wants lawmakers to consider exempting
certain agricultural equipment from the state and local sales tax as well as
expand the Family Farms Act to allow more small farmers to qualify.

Missouri lawmakers to reconsider ag tax credits in special session

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the theft of a vehicle.

On Tuesday, police recovered a 2004 Porsche Cayenne in the 1000 block South 7th Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

The vehicle had been reported stolen to the Topeka Police Department on June 25, 2022.

Police have not reported an arrest or additional details.

The Sound of Speed Air Show will host a number of historic planes at Rosecrans Memorial Airport this weekend as the show hosts its first ever Warbird fly-in.

Executive Director of B-29 Doc Josh Wells says this year's airshow will provide some different ways to view these historic planes. &nbsp;

"They'll be able to get up inside and crawl through them experience first-hand and up close get one on one with these warbirds," Wells tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "You can fly in them, you can just go through the cockpit and the ground tours, it's a way for people to really appreciate and learn about the history of our nation and the men and women that serve our country."&nbsp;

Wells says what will make this show unique from others is the opportunity to be able to crawl into and experience these planes in a different way&nbsp;

"Get up close and personal, again you can fly in them there will be four or five airplanes there that can be ridden in for ticket price," Wells explains. "It's just something that's very unique, very interesting, and we hope will be inspirational to future aviators."&nbsp;

The Sound of Speed Airshow will run July 14-17th at Rosecrans.&nbsp;

Wells says five different World War Two era planes will be a part of the first ever Warbird fly-in at the air show.&nbsp;

"We've got the B-29, the B-17, and the B-25, the B-25 Berlin Express will be there, it's an immaculately restored aircraft it resembles the Doolittle Raiders airplane that took off from the aircraft carrier to deliver the first attack on mainland Japan," Wells says. "We'll also have a couple of smaller airplanes there, a T-6 Texan."&nbsp;

&nbsp;The show will also feature a couple Kansas City based planes that will be at the airshow as well as a few Birddogs L-2 and L-9 series airplanes. &nbsp;

 </figure>By MATT PIKE&nbsp;St. Joseph Post&nbsp;The Sound of Speed Air Show will host a number of historic planes at Rosecrans Memorial Airport this weekend as the show hosts its first ever Warbird fly-in.Executive Director of B-29 Doc Josh Wells says this year's airshow will provide some different ways to view these historic planes. &nbsp;"They'll be able to get up inside and crawl through them experience first-hand and up close get one on one with these warbirds," Wells tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "You can fly in them, you can just go through the cockpit and the ground tours, it's a way for people to really appreciate and learn about the history of our nation and the men and women that serve our country."&nbsp;Wells says what will make this show unique from others is the opportunity to be able to crawl into and experience these planes in a different way&nbsp;"Get up close and personal, again you can fly in them there will be four or five airplanes there that can be ridden in for ticket price," Wells explains. "It's just something that's very unique, very interesting, and we hope will be inspirational to future aviators."&nbsp;The Sound of Speed Airshow will run July 14-17th at Rosecrans.&nbsp;Wells says five different World War Two era planes will be a part of the first ever Warbird fly-in at the air show.&nbsp;"We've got the B-29, the B-17, and the B-25, the B-25 Berlin Express will be there, it's an immaculately restored aircraft it resembles the Doolittle Raiders airplane that took off from the aircraft carrier to deliver the first attack on mainland Japan," Wells says. Historic planes take flight during Sound of Speed Airshow Warbird Fly In

BROWN COUNTY—A Kansas man was injured in an accident just after 6p.m. Tuesday in Brown County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Ford Explorer driven by Anthony L. Geist, 56, Sabetha, was northbound on Acorn Road one half mile north of 170th Street.

Geist stated that he fell asleep while driving. The SUV traveled&nbsp; off the roadway into the west ditch, striking trees before coming to a stop.

EMS transported Geist to the hospital in Sabetha. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

Qualifying
St. Joseph schoolchildren can get scholarships to attend private school under a
new program in Missouri.

State
Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick says about $1 million has already been donated to
the MOScholars program. Under the program, children from low-income families
can receive scholarships. Fitzpatrick adds children with special needs, whether
physical or intellectual, qualify as well.

“Some
schools just aren’t necessarily equipped to provide what that student might
need,” Fitzpatrick tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “They may not have the staffing
levels necessary or they may not have the expertise necessary to really address
all of those needs. So, this is designed to give those students at little bit
of another option to find a different school that could potentially meet those
needs.”

The
legislature approved the MOScholars program in 2019. It went into effect this
month. It could grow to become a $25 million program. Students in Missouri
cities of at least 30,000 residents or who live in counties with a charter form
of government qualify. They can receive a scholarship worth $6,375.

Money
is donated to six Educational Assistance Organizations in Missouri which award
the scholarships to qualifying students. Three EAOs operate in St. Joseph:&nbsp; The Herzog Foundation, Bright Futures, and the
ACSI Children’s Tuition Fund.

Fitzpatrick
says interested parents should investigate the program.

“The
first step really is to, number one, identify the school that you want to
attend or you want your student to attend,” according to Fitzpatrick. “Then,
step two would be to contact an Educational Assistance Organization that is
partnering with that school or that you would like to try to get to partner
with that school.”

Missouri
taxpayers who donate to the program receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit.

Needy St. Joseph schoolchildren can get scholarships under new program

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Developers announced plans Monday to expand the capacity of a controversial wind power transmission line so much that it would match that of four new nuclear power plants.

Invenergy Transmission, the Chicago-based company attempting to build the Grain Belt Express, now says the project will be able to deliver 5,000 megawatts of power, about 25% more than originally planned, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch&nbsp;<a href="https://www.stltoday.com/business/local/grain-belt-express-developers-say-new-plan-will-boost-wind-energy-power-in-missouri-illinois/article_bfe0c818-1e00-5bbe-80f1-2411e5ddc82d.html#tncms-source=login">reports</a>.

Investment in the project, which would stretch about 800 miles from Kansas to Indiana, on a route crossing Missouri and Illinois, also would soar to about $7 billion, Invenergy said.

Various municipal utilities in Missouri have long intended to buy power from the project, but now five times as much electricity will be delivered to the state — rising from 500 to 2,500 megawatts, compared to earlier plans.

The project will help unlock $7.5 billion in energy cost savings in Missouri and Illinois, according to its developers.

The Grain Belt Express has the support of several area advocacy groups including the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and the Associated Industries of Missouri.

But some&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/illinois-wind-power-kansas-missouri-5133291a7b714523ac6d62732a1c0f29">farmers</a>&nbsp;who don’t want high-power transmission lines on their land have fought the project.

Grain Belt Express capacity to soar under new plan

Missouri Department of Transportation and city officials are continuing to work on solutions of what to do with the I-229 double decker bridge in St. Joseph. &nbsp;

District two councilmember Taylor Crouse says the issue is one where he knows where many people stand, by how often he's heard about it.&nbsp;

"I feel like it's one more example of St. Joe feeling like our feelings aren't being considered in this, it's been going on for about eight years," Crouse tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr.&nbsp;

The sentiment Crouse says he's heard from the community is that the double decker bridge should stay the way it is.&nbsp;

Crouse says there's been a lot of progress in downtown St. Joseph and the south end, and he doesn't want to see changes to I-229 hurt that progress.&nbsp;

"Why on earth would we do things for downtown, south side, you know my district, north side, and then make it more difficult to get to those areas of town, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense," Crouse points out.&nbsp;

Crouse says many voices have spoken out about proposed changes to the double decker bridge&nbsp;

"You know we have a lot of business leaders in our community speaking up, we've got a good group of legislators in Jefferson City," Crouse explains. "Senator Luetkemeyer, I know he's taken enormous steps to fight for our community."&nbsp;

Crouse says legislative representatives in Jefferson City have also spoken out about the change.&nbsp; But Crouse says St. Joseph residents shouldn't be passive and should speak out as well. &nbsp;

Crouse says the issue is well known not only in St. Joseph but to people throughout the region.&nbsp;

"It just seems to be an issue that like so many people, not just in this town, but in other communities that feed off of St. Joe and that our economy has great needs in," he says.&nbsp;

The Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold a meeting on July 21st at the Remington Nature Center where the bridge will be a topic of discussion.&nbsp;

Crouse says he expects many people to come to the meeting and be heard.&nbsp; &nbsp;

"There's various plans yes, I don't know exactly what will be presented at the meeting, but like I said I'm sure that a lot of questions will be answered for anyone that has them as of now," Crouse says.&nbsp;

Crouse expects the topic of the bridge to be near the top of the docket at the meeting.&nbsp; Public comments and questions will be heard.&nbsp;

Discussions of what to do with I-229 bridge continue between city and MoDOT officials

ANDREW COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an injury accident that occurred just before 6p.m. Monday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2021 Yamaha ATV driven by Wayland D. Walker, 22, Rosendale, was eastbound at west Locust and Elm Street in Rosendale. The ATV struck a 2015 Hawk motorcycle driven by a 15-year-old Rea boy at the intersection.

The impact pushed the motorcycle off the northeast side of the intersection. Walker drove the ATV from the scene. He was later arrested on requested charges of leaving the scene of an accident and second degree assault, according to the MSHP.

EMS treated the teen at the scene and released him to seek additional medical care later. The boy was wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.

The SUV overtook and rear-ended a&nbsp; westbound 2020 Pioneer Equipment buggy driven by&nbsp; Chris R. Kramer, 23, Jamesport. Both Kramer and a passenger Sarah Kramer, 23, Jamesport, were ejected.

Sarah Kramer was air-lifted to Truman Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Chris Kramer refused treatment at the scene. A private vehicle transported Lewis to Wright Memorial Hospital. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

The Nissan struck the drivers side of a westbound 2006 Chevy pickup driven by Luke D. Schilling, 18, Trenton, at the intersection. The driver's vision was obstructed by tall corn.

A private vehicle transported Clause and a passenger Heidi J. Chaney, 38, Cainsville, to Wright Memorial Hospital. Schilling was not injured.&nbsp; All three were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Tall corn obstructs view ahead of Grundy County crash

The St. Joseph Mustangs enter the final portion of the regular season as the hottest team in the MINK League.

The Mustangs have a league-best record of 24-9, have won their last 12 games at home and they lead the league in runs, RBIs, stolen bases and on-base percentage.

Mustangs manager Johnny Coy says the biggest key to success has been the team settling in and simply having fun.

"Guys are having fun," Coy told St. Joseph Post. "They're just taking it game-by-game and not worried about the playoffs just yet. Just trying to get better everyday and just keep having fun. That's the most important thing."

"When you're in a college summer wood bat league season, it can get long. It's always hot, it can be draining. The guys are just concentrating on having fun and just enjoying each other's company and playing baseball."

The Mustangs swept a pair of home games against the Kansas City Monarchs and Joplin Outlaws over the weekend. The win over the Monarchs this past Friday was a 4-3 walk off.

It's a familiar sensation for St. Joseph - a team that owns six walk off wins this season, including three over the Fourth of July weekend.

 Outfielder and third-year Mustang Brady Holden says this team has no quit and has learned to play well as a group.

"We just play well together," he said. "We'll get down early and I think we've had at least five games we've won on walk offs. You can't count us out. We play hard until the last out."

Part of the secret to this success at home is the fans. The Mustangs lead the MINK League in attendance by a wide margin, averaging 2,473 fans per home game. It’s helped the Mustangs to an outstanding 16-4 record at Phil Welch Stadium this summer.

Holden, a Mid-Buchanan and Missouri Western alum, says whether you’re local or not, playing in front of this fanbase is second-to-none.

"It's my favorite part about playing here," Holden said. "I mean, the atmosphere here is insane. We go on the road, but nothing compares to playing here in front of so many fans. Most college kids don't get that experience. So, it's unreal."

Having fun, entertaining the fans and getting reps are all staples of summer league baseball. Still, everyone wants to win the championship at the end.

The Mustangs still have 14 regular season games left, starting with a road trip to Clarinda Monday, before playoffs start in the final week of July.

Coy says the players are enjoying every moment while still keeping their eye on the prize.

"Our guys are really set on it," he said. "They have their minds on it. They're taking it one game at a time, but in the back of their minds, they know if we're playing well at the end of the year, this whole 'never say quit' attitude is going to come in handy toward the end of the year, and hopefully we can end up like we did last year - on top."

Pitcher and Savannah native Braden Berry tossed six innings and earned the win when the Mustangs knocked off Sedalia last year 12-2 for the team’s seventh league championship.

Berry, who has pitched a team-high 28.2 innings in five starts this season, and who leads the team with 30 strikeouts,&nbsp;says trying to become the first team in the league's history to threepeat serves as great motivation to run it back this summer.

"To put yourself in the history books, especially in this great organization, it's something we want to be a part of," Berry said. "You want to go down as something to build your legacy on, but to do something special like a threepeat would be amazing."

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the theft from a residence in Atchison.

The theft occured at a hime in the 700 block Riley sometime on July 8 or 9th, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

The items taken included a drone, a watch, X boxes, games and clothing.

Police: Drone among items taken from Kansas home

St. Joseph police are investigating a shooting that left a St.
Joseph man with a gunshot wound to the neck and is tied to an armed robbery in
late June.

Police report a sport utility vehicle drove to the Law
Enforcement Center in downtown St. Joseph shortly before six o’clock last night. The passenger, a 23-year-old St. Joseph man, had suffered a
non-life-threatening wound to the neck. The vehicle had been stolen during an
armed robbery on June 25th. The passenger was taken to the hospital.
The driver was taken into custody.

Police discovered the shooting took place at 12th
and Powell. At least two shots were fired. One struck the neck of the victim. Another
struck the vehicle. There was broken glass at the scene.

Police believe they have identified the shooter, who is at
large.

The SUV had been stolen on the 25th after men
wearing masks robbed the Dollar Tree on North Belt, taking the store deposit.
After fleeing the store, the robbers threatened the owner of the SUV and fled
in the stolen vehicle.

Shooting wounds St. Joseph man, tied to late June armed robbery

St. Joseph is set to receive nearly two million dollars from
the Federal Aviation Administration to replace the aging terminal and tower at
Rosecrans Memorial Airport.

Public Works Director Abe Forney says the existing terminal
building and tower are crammed together into one aging building.

“It was built in the 50s,” Forney tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “So,
it’s 70 years old and it’s been falling apart for many, many years. This
upgrade is going to be a huge benefit to the airport and the users of the
airport.”

Forney says the building’s windows are old and inefficient.

“And when we have strong storms out of the northwest, where we
often do, it leaks and ceiling tiles fall in and carpet gets wet; causes for
mildew and other things that excessive water would cause,” according to Forney.
“It’s long overdue.”

“It’s long overdue.”The FAA announced Rosecrans will receive $1.98 million for
reconstruction of the commercial passenger terminal. The airport tower also
will be replaced.Forney says the current facilities are not just old and
inefficient, they are out-of-date.“It does not meet the height requirement for the FAA. It doesn’t
meet the safety requirements for security for the Air National Guad,” Forney
says. “It’ll separate the buildings. The terminal building will be separate
from the tower. The tower will be secure with a fence and have their own FAA
security requirements that they can use and it meets the tower height
requirement.”Forney says the improvements dovetail nicely with the Air
National Guard’s work to build a new 139th Airlift Group
headquarters north of Rosecrans. The FAA contracts with the Air National Guard
to operate Rosecrans’ tower.Forney says Rosecrans is undergoing an entire renovation. Rosecrans
has replaced its crosswind runway and is scheduled to replace its main, 8,000
runway next year.“We’re going to have the terminal building. We’re going to
have the tower and the snow removal building. That is just on the city side
with help from the Guard,” Forney says. “But then the Guard is transitioning to
the north side. They’re building a new simulator building. They would like to
start design on their ramp. So that’s where the C-130s park. We’ve got big
things coming for St. Joe.”
