The Missouri State Highway Patrol Dive Team recovered a body and a vehicle from Smithville Lake on Tuesday.
The recovery operation was conducted in coordination with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, which had requested the dive team’s specialized assistance at the scene.
According to the MSHP, the recovery was tied to an ongoing investigation currently being led by the sheriff’s office. Officials have not yet disclosed the specific nature of that investigation or how the vehicle was first identified beneath the water’s surface.
As of Tuesday evening, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office has not identified the deceased individual. The investigation remains active, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
