Missouri Western State University has announced a new track and field and cross country coach to lead the program after the sudden announcement of the resignation of the coach whose been part of the program since its inception.

Assistant track and field and cross country coach Sean Gosewich will assume interim head coaching duties for the 2025-26 season.  The announcement comes after the resignation of Cody Ingold on Thursday. Ingold has been a member of the program since its inception in 2017, serving as the first-ever assistant coach, before his elevation to head coach in the fall of 2019.

During his tenure at MWSU, Ingold has had a hand in producing 33 track and field national qualifiers, 28 NCAA Division II all-americans and eight MIAA conference champions.

"MWSU has given me a lifetime of memories," Ingold said in a news release from the University. "I'm thankful for Marc (Bierbaum), who brought me in as the program's first assistant. I cherish the unique opportunity to have helped build a program from the ground floor. I am grateful for the student-athletes who laid the foundation and stayed the course. I leave MWSU with a great deal of pride for a program that will stay with me forever."

Gosewich assumes the interim head coaching role entering his second season at MWSU.  Prior to joining the Griffons, Gosewich served as an assistant at Tusculum University in Greensville, Tennessee. He was also the head coach at NAIA William Penn University in Osklaloosa, Iowa from 2011-2021.

"I am honored to accept the position of interim head coach for the cross country and track programs," Gosewich said. "These teams have a history of success athletically and academically, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with our outstanding young men and women as their head coach."

"We want to thank Cody for all of his contributions to the program since day one," Athletic Director Andy Carter said. "Sean is no stranger to change and transition and we have confidence in his vision and leadership to continue to do what's best for our programs and our student-athletes."

Gosewich will assume his head coaching duties effective immediately.
