ATCHISON COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 10:30a.m. Saturday in a Atchison County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2026 Ford Bronco driven by Johnnie N. Ross, 50, Atchison, was eastbound at 1146 kearney Street just North of Laramie Street. The driver failed to stop at a stop sign at 12th Street. A southbound 2001 Toyota Echo driven by Chad M. Starling, 45, Atchison, attempted an avoidance maneuver and did not collide with the Bronco. Starling lost control of the Toyota. The car struck trash cans and a tree.
EMS transported Starling to the hospital in Atchison where he was pronounced deceased. Ross and a passenger in the Bronco were not injured. Starling was not weaing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
