The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed a section of the I-229 double decker bridge after extreme heat forced the asphalt on the bridge to buckle causing unsafe driving conditions.
MoDOT has closed the bridge to assess the damage for repairs and says drivers will need to find an alternate route with the northbound lane from Edmond Street to Francis Street being closed.
Drivers heading northbound are advised to exit off onto Edmond Street. Once traffic is cleared MoDOT will keep the bridge closed for repairs.
