Lois Ilene Burge was born on March 27, 1927 in rural Holt County near Forest City, Missouri. She was one of three children of Seth T. and Gladys L. (Dozier) Buckles. Lois graduated from Mound City High School in May of 1944.
On February 7, 1959 she married Albert "Ducky" Burge at the Mound City United Methodist Church.
Lois worked at St. Joseph Light and Power for eight years, and then worked at the Mound City school cafeteria for 15 years until her retirement. Lois was a member of the First Christian Church of Mound City.
Albert passed away in 1992. Lois passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at a Mound City care center at the age of 96.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Freeman Buckles; and sister, Lena Elizabeth Buckles.
Survivors include her son, Rusty Burge and his wife Krista of Mound City; two grandchildren, Garrett Burge and his wife Nicole, and Morgan and her husband David Luna; two great grandchildren, Jayce and Kyah; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: Wednesday, August 23, 2023, 10:00 am, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Private family interment: Mount Hope Cemetery.
