Posted Mar 29, 2024 10:06 PM

Betty Lou Vogel, 92, was born October 31, 1931, on the farm southeast of Oregon, Missouri, owned by her grandmother. The Lord called her to join her beloved Delbert in eternal rest on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Ozark Nursing & Care Center.

At the age of three she and her parents moved to the farm that her great-grandparents had owned. They lived there until 1943.

Betty attended White and Oakland rural schools. She graduated from Oregon High School in 1949. She then attended Platt Business College pursuing a secretarial career.

One June 15, 1952, she and Delbert W. Vogel were united in marriage at the Oregon Methodist Church, Oregon, Missouri. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002. They enjoyed a wonderful, happy marriage. Delbert preceded Betty in death on March 11, 2003.

Betty had been employed at Western Tablet, Holt Co. Extension Service, and AJ August Clothing Co. She became an employee of the Social Security Administration in 1961 and retired in 1987 where she was a claims representative. She dearly loved her job and felt a duty to aid people to the fullest.

Betty and Delbert spent the winters in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas for ten years. She kept busy doing crafts and particularly loved making dolls, angels and dressing teddy bears with lace.

For several years, she assisted nursing home residents making craft items. She made many walker bags and lap afghans for the homes. In Harlingen, Texas she crocheted baby caps for the hospital.

Betty loved flowers, enjoyed gardening, and feeding the birds. She always said her dad taught her to love nature, and her mother taught her to be a lady and a mother.

She loved being a mother to her three sons. She loved cooking and providing for her children as they grew to adulthood. She enjoyed taking part in all of their achievements.

On September 5, 2004, Betty transferred her church membership to St. Paul Methodist Church. She so enjoyed being a member of this church family and through her associations here so deepened her spiritual connection with the Lord.

In September 2007, she joined Community Care Ministries with the Salvation Army. Her friendships and activities there also deepened her faith in the Lord and for eternal life. She so enjoyed taking part in their nursing home ministries.

In later life, she resided at Country Squire Retirement Community in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she developed many friendships and took care of her little dog, Suzy.

In May of 2019, Betty moved to Ozark, Missouri, where she was a resident of Ozark Nursing and Care Center. She was active with the other residents and was proud to be President of the Resident Council of ONCC.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Delbert.

Survivors are her sons, Gary (Linda) Vonore, TN, Terry, Nixa, MO, and Tim (Donna and daughter Gracelynn), St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Heather and Christopher Vogel; seven step-grandchildren, and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
