2 adults, 7 juveniles injured after Buchanan Co. rear-end crash

BUCHANAN COUNTY—Nine people including 7 juveniles from Rushville were injured in an accident just after 7p.m. Tuesday in Buchanan County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1994 GMC Sierra driven by a 15-year-old Atchison boy was westbound on U.S. 59 two miles east of Atchison. The pickup was following a 2001 Dodge Ram van driven by Andrew W. Johnson, 40, Rushville, too closely. The pickup rear-ended the van.

Buchanan County EMS transported Johnson, the teen pickup driver, a passenger in the GMC identified as Matthew D. Peltzer, 50, Rushville, and three juveniles on the van to Mosaic Life Care.

Private vehicles transported two other juveniles on the van to Mosaic Life Care. A private party transported a 15-year-old boy from the van to Amberwell Hospital in Atchison.  Five of the juveniles on the van were not wearing seat belts, according to the MSHP.
