One injured after SUV strikes light post when driver falls asleep

MERCER COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just before 4:30p.m. Friday in Mercer County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2019 GMC Acadia driven by by Clarence R. Bell, 84, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, was northbound on U.S. 65 at U.S. 136.

The driver fell asleep. The SUV traveled off the road, struck a light post and came to rest in a parking lot.

Mercer County EMS transported a passenger Josephine E. Bell, 84, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, to Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa. Clarence Bell was treated and released at the scene. Both were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.
