Virginia L. King, 99, of Atchison, KS, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at her home in Atchison, KS.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 11:00am at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Bob Flack officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held the night prior Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00pm. Virginia was born January 12, 1925, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Frank and Audrea (Overstreet) Neely. Virginia and her family moved to the Atchison area while she was in grade school. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1943. Virginia was an assistant cook in the dietary department at the Atchison Hospital. She was a member of the Riverbend Bible Church and helped at the Shepherd Center. Throughout the years Virginia has collected butterfly trinkets, and music boxes but her most treasured collection was her dolls. She enjoyed traveling, dancing with her husband to a live band, and the occasional margarita. Virginia also adored spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Virginia first married John Willmeth, he preceded her in October of 1966. She then married Leo F. King on February 20, 1969; he preceded on January 6, 2016. She is survived by five daughters, Barbara Wood, Atchison, KS, Linda (Mike) Piper, Atchison, KS, Mary Merrill, Atchison, KS, Shirley (Bill) Wyland, Atchison, KS, Frances (Gary) Mason, Atchison, KS, one son, Larry King, Lexington, MO, a daughter-in-law Dee King, Portsmouth, VA, eighteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and an abundant number of great-great grandchildren.
Virginia is preceded by her parents, both husbands, a brother, Ryland Neely, a son, Terry King, grandson, Norman Ellis, Jr., great granddaughter, Gabrielle Cline, son-in-law, Alvin Wood, and a daughter-in-law, Ellie King.
