Darrell E. Hamilton, 77, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Brookfield Post Acute Care Facility in Topeka.
He was born March 17, 1947 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS, the son of Meddie and Hazel Bain Hamilton. He graduated from Kapaun High School and attended Wichita State College.
Darrell served in the U.S. Air Force from Feb, 1967 through November, 1972, with the rank of Sergeant. He served at the Almaden AFB in California in the Radar Squadron. He was given an honorable discharge and moved to Phoenix, AZ. He worked for the TRW Corporation on the air bag assembly line, where the airbags were produced for automobiles. He moved to Topeka, KS in the year 2000 and went to work for Harrah's Prairie Band Casino as a security guard. He quit his job with Harrah's and spent a lot of time hiking around Topeka, when he started having trouble with his legs. He went into the care home in October of 2018.
Darrell was always a lot of fun and a very generous person with his money and his time. He loved people, but was single throughout his life. In his younger years, he spent a lot of time going to car racing events (NASCAR). He also spent a lot of time mountain bike racing.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Meddie Edward Hamilton and Hazel Allene Bain-Hamilton, and his three sisters, Joyce Hamilton-Smith, Anita Hamilton, and Denise Hamilton.
Survivors include his sister, DeeAnne Browning, Wichita, KS, a niece, Stacie Smith, Phoenix, AZ, and nephews, Travis Smith, Gilbert, AZ, Ryan McSweeney, Aurora, CO and Darren McSweeney, Lenexa, KS.
Darrell will be cremated and the date and time of his Memorial Service will be announced when it is available.
