Mosaic Life Care will work closely with the company constructing a rehabilitation hospital across the river in Elwood.
Mosaic Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Davin Turner, says ClearSky executives reached out to Mosaic before announcing their decision to locate in northeast Kansas. Turner says ClearSky asked if it could contract with Mosaic for certain services, such as lab services and radiology.
“We’re not in a joint venture,” Turner tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “They’re an independent company building their own rehab hospital. We are going to assist them with ancillary services that they will not be able to provide to their patients in-house.”
Turner says Mosaic welcomes a rehab facility so close to its St. Joseph base. The 30-bed ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Elwood-St. Joseph will be located just off Highway 36 in Elwood.
Turner says northwest Missouri resident, as well as northeast Kansas residents, need a rehab facility.
“To help those patients be able to stay closer to home, because right now you have limited access and patients may have to go up into Nebraska or possibly down to Kansas City,” Turner says. “If we can have facilities to a large population that we serve here around the area that gets to keep them closer to home.”
