Stephen Leo Wright, 77, of Rushville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at his home.
He was born February 17,1948 to parents Leo Hume Wright and Dorothy Maxine Caviness Wright in Versailles, Missouri. Stepmother was Irene “Goldie” Wright of Savannah, MO.
Stephen married Wanda Gail McKee Stone on November 11, 1974.
He was owner/operator of Wright Way excavating and heavy equipment business for many years in the Kansas City area.
Stephen will be remembered for his love of animals; he rescued many cats, dogs and raccoons over the years. He loved tinkering with and collecting old trucks, tractors and lawn mowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Mary “Trudy” Merriott, Virginia “Ginger” Wall, and brother Roy “Junior” Merriott.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda; children, Matthew “Mac” Stone with partner Kristie Guhse, Van Franklin “Sonny” Stone II, Shari Stone-Ulrich, and brother Michael Wright of Savannah MO. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren plus extended family and friends.
