As a celebration of Father's Day, the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art will once again host a whisky tasting and hog roast event this Saturday at the museum.

Marketing & Communications Manager Madison McKinley says the idea for the event, which launched last year, came after the popularity of the Mother's Day brunch and wanting to do an event around Father's Day

"And it's not necessarily just for Father's Day, and that's why we didn't put it on Father's Day weekend," McKinley says. "Is because it could be a Father's Day present but it also could just be a fun night out with your husband or your wife, or a group of friends, you can make it whatever it needs to be for you, it's just a really cool experience to have and I don't see a lot of experiences like this in St. Joseph right now, so I think that makes us pretty unique in offering it."

McKinley says Union Horse Distilling Company will be on hand for the whisky tasting

"They have several different options, they walk you through it, they give you the the little glass," McKinley explains. "You smell it, you sip it, you embrace all of the flavor profile of everything, and they tell you about how it's made and what goes into it and the story behind it if there is one, and then we pair it with a hog roast."

McKinley says if you don't know much about whiskey tasting, it's an artform of its own.

"I didn't know much about whiskey for a long time, but my husband is a whiskey connoisseur, and we've done lots of tastings now and when we go on vacations, we try to do stuff like that," McKinley says. "So, I think it's cool to bring it into the museum and show people that side of the spirit culture and give people an opportunity to taste some different things."

The food will be provided by Spanky and Buckwheat's. The event runs on Saturday from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Registration is $60 per person, and you can register online or by contacting the Albrecht Kemper.
