John Michael Thompson 75, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at his home in St. Joseph, MO. He was born January 24, 1948 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Betty and Wilbur Thompson.
He graduated from Central High School 1966, and served in the United States Marines Corp, and is a veteran of the Viet Nam War. He is the recipient of 2 purple hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. John retired from Quaker Oats after 31 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom and pheasant hunting, traveling, taking pictures, and spending time with his grandkids and family and the peace and serenity that the Nodaway river had to offer. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, son, Sean Michael Thompson, and brother, David Thompson.
Survivors include: wife, Juanita Thompson of the home, son, Chad (Stefanie) Thompson, daughter, Jennifer (Moses) Leonard, sister Anne (Roger) Roseberry, brothers; Patrick Thompson, Kansas City, MO. and Mark (Bobby) Thompson of Plano, TX, 8 grandchildren, Anthony, Stevie (Matt), Heather (Colton), Julius Thompson, Kody Conner, Rylea (Barry) Evans, Irelyn and Piper Leonard, and 10 great grandchildren, Remedy, Tessa, Camryn, Zavarie Thompson, Markie Scott, Sergio Calvin, Riott Wells, Lakelan and Cypress Evans, his name sake John M. Thompson.
The Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 pm Wednesday, September 27, 2023 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Deacon John Nash, officiating. The Inurnment will be at a later date, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with Military Honors.
