Central High School to temporarily close due to water damage

St. Joseph School District officials have decided to temporarily close the Central High School campus for approximately six weeks, due to air quality and construction issues.

According to a press release from the district, the Freshman building has been severely impacted by recent rain and flooding. Experts from SERVPRO and Apex Envirotech have defined the problem and have identified the best approach to fixing the issues. Based on a thorough inspection and assessment of the building, the issues should be resolved by the end of September.

“It is the St. Joseph School District’s highest priority to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Doug Van Zyl. “The building houses more than 30 classrooms that are utilized by students at all grade levels; therefore, it would be impossible to relocate those students and classrooms to the main building.”

Beginning August 31, students who have not signed up for the SJSD Virtual Academy will be learning remotely, from home during this time. This change does not impact the Virtual Academy students.
