The City of Saint Joseph will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for eight new pickleball courts Monday, May 18th, at 2 PM.
The new complex, on 22nd street between James and Douglas, doubles the city's capacity for pickleball. The location formerly held tennis courts that were removed a few years back.
Courtside, there are also two shady spots, picnic tables, a water fountain with bottle-filler, and LED lighting.
The project ran the city $796,000, and was funded through the Capital Improvements Program and the parks sales tax.
The new courts are in addition to seven at Bode Sports Complex, and some hybrid tennis-pickleball courts both Hyde Park and the Northside Complex. All city courts are first-come, first-served.
McConnell & Associates were contracted for the work.
