The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investing 25 million dollars in a new sterile fly dispersal facility in Douglas, Arizona, as part of its long-term effort to eliminate the New World screwworm. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says the facility will strengthen USDA’s ability to push the destructive livestock pest back into Mexico and eventually eradicate it from North America. The Arizona site will complement existing sterile fly operations in Texas, Mexico and Panama.
