David Eugene Scholz, 72, of Atchison, Kansas, died Friday, February 23, 2024, at his home.
David’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. Benedict Church. A visitation will be from 10 – 10:45 a.m. A parish rosary will begin at 10:45 followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A lunch will be served at St. Joseph Church basement following the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Scholz Scholarship Fund at St. Benedict Catholic School. Cremation care entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
David was born March 26, 1951, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Conrad “Gene” Scholz and Kathleen Marie (Lutz) Scholz. He attended St. Benedict’s Grade School and graduated from Maur Hill Prep School.
He worked at MGP and in construction for a few years but mostly was an over the road truck driver until his retirement. He was a member of St. Benedict Parish.
David was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed woodworking. He spent countless hours deer hunting and fly fishing, and found great joy in working on cars and driving Corvettes. He could solve just about any problem with a glass of single malt scotch. He loved being an uncle; his family was the most important aspect of his life.
Survivors include two brothers, Jim (Patti) Scholz; Joe Scholz; four sisters, Joan Underwood; MaryAnn (Mark) Meudt; Karen (Mike) Hennigh; Theresa (Warren) Rensner; a brother-in-law, Will Arnold, Wichita, KS; his nieces and nephews and the 1006 crew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sharon Arnold; a brother-in-law, Courtney Underwood, and a nephew, Benjamin Arnold.
