Lois I. Petersen, 80, of Atchison, KS died on Thursday, Feb. 13th, 2025, at home surrounded by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wed. Feb. 19th, 2025, at St John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster, with Rev. Elizabeth Carr officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until time of service on Wednesday, Feb. 19th at the church. Lois has been cremated according to her wishes and burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Humane Society or the St. John’s Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the services. Lois was born on Dec. 30, 1944, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Fredrick and Ruth (Bodenhausen) Graner. She graduated from Nortonville High School in 1962. Lois worked in several different places; she worked as Congressional Aid for Congressman Jim Jeffreys. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for Bob Berger Manufacturing, as a teller for both the Home Savings & Loan, and retired as a teller from the Bank of Atchison. Lois also worked as a bookkeeper for Atchison Beauty College and ABC Construction Company.
She was a very active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster, KS serving on the Church Council, as a Sunday School Teacher, helped with the Annual Pancake Supper and Garage Sale projects, and Kids for Christ. Lois also loved to cook and garden, was a seamstress and animal lover.
Lois was married to her best friend Richard Petersen on Aug. 4th, 1974, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Lancaster, KS. Survivors include daughter Kelli D. (Hicks) Baker, Atchison, KS, a son Jeffrey L. (Tina) Petersen, Gypsum, CO, two brothers Richard (Ann) Graner, Bethany, MO, and Dean (Vicki) Graner, Grand Cane, LA, a sister Mary Anna Dove, Atchison, KS, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and close family friends Jeff & Renea Baker, and Ronnie & JoAnne Baker, both of Atchison, KS. Her parents, a daughter Shonya K. (Petersen) McBride, and granddaughter Jessica Nicole Baker preceded her in death.
