Joshua Michael McCarthy, 37, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025.
He was born October 20, 1987 to Michael P. McCarthy and Marlene A. (Bonnell) Thornton in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
An unwavering bond was evident in the relationship Joshua shared with his son. Together, they created precious memories through their shared passion for playing games.
A hard worker to his core, he approached every job with unmatched energy and enthusiasm, consistently going above and beyond what was required. He was often described as a man who wore his heart on his sleeve, and rightfully so, for his empathy knew no bounds. Joshua’s actions spoke volumes of his character; he was always the first to offer a helping hand.
Yet, it was Joshua's ability to light up a room that will be most fondly remembered. His sense of humor, quick wit, and the sheer joy he brought with him were truly the life of any party.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Thornton; grandparents, Alan and Celetta Bonnell and David Goodman.
Survivors include his son, Atlas McCarthy; father, Michael McCarthy (Heather); stepfather, Shawn Thornton; siblings, Myriah Gerdes (Kody), Kelsey Gerdes (Benjamin) and Thomas Gerdes, Jr.; grandmother, Mary Goodman; nieces, Calliana Barnes, Kimarah Wilson, Adahlia Harris, Camellia Harris and Willow Milbourne; and nephew, Teagan Gerdes.
The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
