Highland, KS……..Betty Jane Snyder, of Highland, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, November 25, 2024, at Amberwell Hiawatha. She was 95.
Betty was born December 1, 1928, at Lincoln Park, Michigan, second to the oldest child born to Clarence Ellsworth and Mabel Wilson Wareham. The family moved to Hiawatha during her growing up years where she attended school prior to graduating high school with the class of 1946.
She met her future husband Art in Hiawatha and later married January 8, 1947. They farmed and raised livestock north of Hiawatha until 1955 when they moved to Highland to make their home. She and Art raised her youngest brother Bob due to the untimely death of his mother.
Betty worked at various different jobs through the years. She enjoyed helping Art raising ponies for years. Betty worked several years at the library at Highland Junior College and later in the business office until she retired. Betty then worked part-time for the Doniphan County Library District #1-Highland Branch.
She was a longtime member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church, north of Leona and the United Methodist Women of the Church. The Highland Community was very important to Betty as she was active with the Pride Organization and a member of the Pollyanna Club. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed riding horses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art June 25, 2015, a brother Jerry Wareham, and a sister Cathy Sherman Schmidt, and daughter-in-law Melinda Wareham.
Survivors include sons Dennis Snyder (Tana), Randy Snyder, both of Highland, Robert Wareham of Whiting; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a granddaughter Kathleen Adcock and three great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Betty’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Jerry Petering officiating. Interment will follow at the Hiawatha Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon Friday. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services Saturday.
